Spring Time ~ Time to Celebrate Pretty Florals…

I can't tell you how pleased I am that Spring has lovingly embraced the outdoors and made things warmer, greener and prettier.  It seems that this Winter lasted forever, and I'm so ready to spend some time outdoors now with the littley, and growing bump!

As I was sat gazing at all the lovely flowers in our garden yesterday, I was inspired to write up a post of a floral nature. I LOVE flowers – though I admit, I never took anywhere near as much notice of them until I met my now Husband, who has expert green-fingers and who, with the exception of the bridal bouquets and button-holes, grew all the flowers for our wedding in our own back garden, and prepared their presentation on the morning of our wedding himself.  Clever clever boy.

Our garden is always a hive of life in the warmer months, the daffodils are saluting to the sun (quite a little bit later than they did last year, I notice?), and the  hellebore are making everything all pretty and fairy like (I tell my 4 year old they are the fairy's favourite flowers – mostly to stop her from picking them all!).

Here are some of my favourite florists websites at the moment – I hope they offer something to anyone seeking some floral inspiration for their wedding or special event maybe…

Having worked with flowers for 14 years, in 2006, Vic Brotherson founded
Scarlet and Violet in 2006, "We now deliver flowers across London, install  house flowers lovingly, and give our all to weddings and events"…

What fabulous displays! I love the idea of little jugs and buckets full of English Country Wedding/shabby-chic style flowers at a wedding…

Hilary Maddren
{Cleveland, UK}

I cannot praise my own wedding florist enough.  She wasn't our first choice (who regrettably proved to have very different ideas to me when it came to planning erm, *my* wedding bouquet) and Hilary stepped in at very short notice indeed and was so incredibly receptive to all my ideas.  It was very important to me, marrying on the first day of Spring 2009, to have a seasonal bouquet, comprising largely of Spring Narcissi – I didn't want a huge amount of fuss.

This, is what Hilary came up with – along with an array of matching button-holes.  I was astounded at her ability to create something that went way beyond my expectations and I love how she used fabric from my own wedding dress and the Bridesmaids dress to wrap around the stems of the bouquets, and how she used the same fabric to decorate 4 little baskets that I'd purchased to hold confetti…

"I have been working in the floristry business for over 25 years, twenty of those owning and running my own shop. I studied horticulture at college in Wales for 3 years then went on to work in London, where I was privileged to work at the Chelsea flower show, and where many of my clients where  film stars and celebrities.  After a spell working in Los Angeles I returned to my home town in the north-east.  Wedding flowers are my passion.  I love the challenge of taking a brides dreams and making them reality. Whether traditional, contemporary of funky I have a wealth of ideas.  No matter how small or lavish the same attention to detail will be given to all brides on their special day."

I never did throw my bouquet.  I was so in love with it I kept it hung it for a month after our wedding to dry, then boxed it very carefully.  I checked on it a few months after storing it and it's perfect. I can't wait to show it to my children and grand-children in the years to come 🙂

Hilary likes to personally delivery the flowers to all her Brides on the
day of their wedding, so tends to cover the Cleveland area only.  Visit the Hilary Maddren website or contact Hilary directly on [email protected].

"I think our appeal basically stems from the fact we are all young (well 30ish!) women with experience of organising weddings and know what a nightmare it can become. We understand how much it means to Brides to achieve their dream day, so we always go the extra mile to ensure the flowers and our service are nothing short of perfect…"
