A 1950’s Style Wedding Dress for a Vintage Wedding in Rye…

It's Saturday and at last, it's Sunny!  What an absolutely beautiful
day 🙂 Time to share some more real wedding day love with you
all.   Nicola married Nick on 28 March 2010 at The George in Rye;
"It was love at first sight, The George was the one and only venue that
we looked at but as soon as we saw the stunning ballroom we just knew
we had to get married there!"

Regular readers may recall my recent feature on the London based vintage style wedding dress designers, 'Fur Coat No Knickers'
Today's real wedding features a Bride in one of their glorious 1950s
style wedding dresses – the Veil, shoes and hair accessories were also
from Fur
Coat No Knickers
! 🙂

"I
was pretty sure that I wanted a vintage dress, and thought that a 50s
style would suit me. The dress caught my eye as soon as we entered the gorgeous boudoir style shop
but it was about the third one I tried on. I loved it instantly and as
soon as the shoes, bird cage veil  and additional petticoats were added I
knew that I would not be leaving the shop without having bought it.

I felt amazing on the day and so many people told me the dress was
'me'. Being a shorter dress, it was brilliant for getting around the
hotel and cobbled streets of Rye, and pretty good for swishing around on
the dance floor too! Emma and Laura at Fur Coat No Knickers were fantastic to work with, they really care about each one of their brides and make the whole experience really memorable."

She makes you feel totally at ease and somehow seems to get you to love the camera! I am so happy with the photos we have, and the one of us outside the guitar shop was a moment of inspired genius from Julie – everyone adores it."

Why Hire when you can DIY?

"I decided I wanted the morning to be very
relaxed, with no time pressures so I chose to do my own hair and
makeup. I knew my sister and the other bridesmaids would help if need be
and I'd been for a couple of practices at the Chanel counter in House
of Fraser Maidstone beforehand. I have to say that one of my proudest
moments was when lots of people asked who had done my make-up as I'm
normally not the best at that sort of thing!  All of my make-up was Chanel, it just so happened that I found the
perfect pink and green (to match the colour scheme) eye shadow there so
went with that…"

"The only other jewellery that I wore was a Tiffany
diamond bracelet that Nick had given me for my 30th and a vintage
looking bangle that my dad had given my mum for her 21st birthday (my
something borrowed!)."

"All the
bridesmaids chose their own outfits, I liked the idea of them all
wearing different dresses, which was lucky given my twin sister was
going to be 7 months pregnant.  I wanted their dresses to reflect their
personality and for them to feel amazing on the day."

Flowers…

"My bridesmaid Alison did my flowers for me, although at
the moment it is just a hobby she is very talented at flower arranging.
Because we ordered the flowers from Covent Garden market we were able to
get tons so all of the arrangements were just oozing vintage roses,
delicate lilac and spring tulips. Alison worked her socks off but the
flowers really were a total triumph…"

Nick wore a Hugo Boss suit; "We were really lucky with Nick's
suit because the cut that happens to be in fashion this year is quite
50ish, so without trying to hard we were able to get a suit that really
fitted in with the look…"

Tiffanys Rings…

"We got our rings from Tiffany. We knew we wanted something very
simple, which was lucky because we did cut it a bit fine in buying them –
the week before the wedding!"

Ballroom Style…

"The style for the wedding came from the gorgeous ballroom at the the
George in Rye which is so stunning it did not need a huge amount of
additional colour or decoration so I opted for a simple pink and green. I
wanted everything to have a vintage feel but without being specific to a
particular period. Bows also became a theme of the wedding because of
the style of my  dress and veil."

Decor…

"My cousin,
also a bridesmaid, made pretty vintage cakes-stands from old tea
cups and plates. We used these for the table centrepieces for the
flowers. We had pink and green peppermint creams for the favours that
were made by my sister's husband!"

Home Made Goodies…

"In the spirit of a truly home-made wedding
my mum and aunty made my cake. It was a traditional three tiered fruit
cake, that had been fed plenty of brandy in the preceeding few months.
To link in with the bows on my dress and veil my sister made a delicate
green icing bow  to sit on top of the cake."

Words of Wisdom?

"Pursue your dreams but be willing to compromise about the less important
things."

What a wonderful day indeed, and I love how Nicola called on so many friends and family members to help out with the different design aspects of the day.

Congratulations to this lovely couple on tieing the knot and a special thank you once again to Julie at Mirror Image Photography for allowing us to reproduce these images on the Love My Dress Wedding Blog 🙂

Have a super afternoon everyone,
