1950s Elegance and 1960s Fun ~ Two Decades Collide to Inspire a Beautiful Scottish Bride…

Hi Guys :)  Well, as I begin to wind up the blog features for 2010 (tomorrow will be my last day of posting to the blog this year), I find myself looking through a folder full of beautiful wedding submissions and not knowing quite where to start first – they are all so super! This one however, is really, reeeeeeeally super – in a drop-dead-gorgeous kind of way 🙂

These lovely photographs are from the wedding of Lauren and Brian, who celebrated their nuptials on 29 October 2010 at St Andrews in the Square in Glasgow.  I'd like to thank Scottish Fine Art Wedding Photographers Craig and Eva Sanders for sending over these beautiful images, which OK, I shall admit, took me all of a whole nano-second to agree to feature!  I was floored by the beautiful Bride Lauren and her absolutely gorgeous drop-earrings, never mind her pretty headpiece, stole, dress and that lovely, lovely smile :)  I was also really pleased to see these photographs prove that, it doesn't matter if it rains on your wedding day…

Lauren wore a Constantina wedding gown called 'Caroline' (formerly sold in the the UK under the name of 'Constantina', these lovely wedding dresses are now solder under the label 'Enzoani' – which is part of the house of Benjamin Roberts)…

"After looking at hundreds of dresses I knew this was the one.  I loved its hourglass shape and beautiful detailed embellishment spilled throughout the dress. I also love the fact that it was made up of layers of tulle which I think gave a romantic and girly edge…"

RoseMae flowers and Blooms provided the peach perfect florals…

"RoseMae works from home which makes her flowers really reasonably priced. She has worked as a florist for many years so she sources the finest flowers and makes sure your flowers are perfect on the day. I had told RoseMae that I'd seen David Austin Roses and had my heart set on the peach Juliet bouquet featured on their website. RoseMae contacted the supplier and got the roses sent up – and I honestly have never seen such beautiful flowers in my life! I never knew I could get so excited over flowers.

RoseMae did a fantastic job of the girls bouquets, boys buttonholes and corsages. She also designed the beautiful flower arrangements for our Birdcage centerpieces, which went beautifully with our wedding venue which was an old converted church.

May I also take this opportunity to thank RoseMae for the beautiful ivory heart  floral tribute she made in loving memory of my brother David who sadly couldn't be with us on the day…"

"I cant believe Im sharing this but the inspiration of my dress came from a picture of diana doors in a green dress on the sergeant peppers lonely hearts cover album. I loved the hourglass shape of the dress and how it nipped in at the waist and hips and how she had a little fur shrug wrap around her arm. When I saw caroline in the constantina range (now known as the Enzoani range) it was this shape but with straps and beautiful flower embellishments…"

"I absolutely love the style of the 1950s and 1960s. I love the elegance, ladylike, sophistication of the 1950s but also the fun, colourful, who gives a monkeys nature of the 1960s.  So I tried to incorporate the two decades into my wedding without it looking too mismatched.

I know people normally would opt for one or the other but I liked different elements of both decades. I wore a vintage inspired headband and had old English roses to bring some elegance to my look…"

Lauren hired Ramilia Hair and Makeup on her wedding day…

"Ramilia did a fantastic job of me and my mums hair and make-up on the day. Ramilia recommends styles which she feels best suits you and will give you her honest opinion which I really respected. A lovely, funny, straight talking lady that will make you look nothing less than your absolute best on your big day…"

"Our wedding venue was in St Andrews in the Square Glasgow, an Eighteenth Century restored chapel which is now used for weddings, concerts and Ceildhs.

St Andrews in The Square is right in the heart of Glasgow city center but is nestled behind the busy street of arygll street and the hub bub of the famous Barras market. Brian comes from Glasgow, as does my mums family so we wanted to get married there. Jackie, the Wedding Co-ordinator there is brilliant, really friendly and will bend over backwards to make sure your day goes according to plan.  Everyone loved the venue and many said it was a total hidden treasure, even people who worked there for years weren't aware it exsisted.

We choose St Andrews in the Square because it is a beautiful building inside and out. Guarded by massive Pillars and a beautiful stairway outside and furnished with chandeliers, original stainglass windows and the most beautiful clock I have ever came across adorning the back wall of the church…."

"One of Brians favourite songs is coldplay 'Green Eyes', which we used as our recerssional song.  We walked back up the aisle to I want to hold your hand, The Beatles. Music was played by Sean Kennedy, a local singer, song writer who we were delighted to have play at our service See here…

How fabulous do Lauren's Bridesmaids look here?!  These gorgeous dresses are by Love My Dress favourite, Dessy….

"I let the girls choose their own style from a range of chiffon fabric dresses by Dessy in the colour tangerine.  I wanted our photos to have a vintage feel and thought this colour went well with the boys chocolate brown kilts to create this look…"

Mcnairn (421)

"I was inspired in choosing Dessy for my Bridesmaids dresses, by a photo of Jackie Onassis on a trip to India wearing an apricot dress and pearls. Jackie is one of my style icons and when I saw the colour of this dress I decided that's what I was going to put my girls in. So my inspiration for my wedding dress came from a photo of Diana Doors on the Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club album and my bridesmaids a photo of Jackie Onassis I happened to stumble across one day!!

I would say to Brides to be to look to their style icons for inspiration and if they stumble across something they love look – think of ways to incorporate this into their wedding day…"

"We decorated the venue with birdcages purchased from the British Home Stores sale. Rosemae our florist then filled them with beautiful flower displays to compliment our colour scheme. Our tables were also named after bands; we got a lady on Etsy to design our invites and table cards. I had asked her to make them 6" inch squared and reminiscent writing of a old sixties record cover, we then chose our favourite bands and included a song lyric of something we felt fitting for the day…"

"Our cake was by Cake by Naomi at Whiskit.  I came across Naomi through a links page in our wedding band Ernest webpage. Naomi had just got a new premises and invited me to be one of the first Brides to come along and visit her new business venture, which was lovely.

My Mum and I went along and were greeted with a cuppa and a selection of some of the cupcakes I had mentioned on the phone. The cakes were delicious, and Naomi was very helpful and made our visit feel more like a visit to a friends house who's decided to invite you round for an afternoon tea. Naomi tied the colours of the cupcakes in with our peach and chocolate coloured theme- which worked out pretty well as Brian's favourite cakes chocolate and mines is carrot. Naomi also does catering for functions, which I'm sure would be as fab as her baking…"

"We hired the Ernest wedding band – a young, talented, energetic band for evening entertainment. Everyone loved the band and they really got the night off to a flying start and the dance floor was never empty. The boys were good sports and even let the less shy people of the bunch up on the stage – some to play blow up guitars and other to start a big karaoke sing along of 'Sweet Caroline' (this may have involved the groom!!)…"

"Our first dance was to 'All you need is Love' the Beatles.  We chose this song as we are both Beatles fans. There were so many we had thought of but we eventually chose this one because of its simple message that as long as you have those you love round about you- you will be alright.  And with all our family and friends that were with us that day we thought that was quite appropriate. I absolutely love the video for this song to, everyone looks as if they are having a good time and that's what I wanted on my wedding day."

Mcnairn (630)

"May I also mention our last dance – we opted for Candi Staton's 'You Got The Love', instead of your traditional Scottish songs. We wanted our last song to be upbeat and happy to finish the night off. Everyone was up on the dancefloor for this and I would recommend that all couples choose one of their favourite songs to round the night off…"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Friends who had been married previously had told us to enjoy the day and try and absorb as much as possible as it would go by far too quickly. This was definitely true and I would advise any couple to take little breaks throughout the day to take in whats going on. Go a walk somewhere with your new hubby, stand on a balcony, or take a few moments outside to reflect on the day or watch whats going on.

I would also say for Brides to do things their own way and don't going following any particular format; if you put your stamp on it you will be happy you did rather than look back and regret that you didn't.

May I also take this opportunity to mention the help of my parents. My mum helped me in every step of my wedding preparations and gave me her honest and valued opinions. It was lovely to be able to create this special day together. It was also a chance to go for many lunches and shopping trips (which my Dad was unaware of – always wedding research purposes!) Without my Dad we wouldn't been able to have such a lovely unique wedding and be able to invite all our fabulous family and friends that were there…"

Wow.

WHAT a photograph to end on. Utterly beautiful…

Thank you so very much to the wonderful Scottish Wedding Photographers, Craig and Eva Sanders for this sublime submission.  Lauren shared the following with me…

"We searched high and low for a photographer only to find that we had these two talented photographers on our doorstep. When we saw Craig and Eva Sanders photographs online, we knew we had found something very different to other wedding day photographs we had seen . When we met them in person we found them to be friendly, helpful and down to earth.   They were also great on the day, not at all intrusive and captured a wide variety of settings and poses.

When we got our photographs to view online they were better than we could have ever imagined. If you are thinking of getting a Scottish Wedding Photographer book them quick !!!!!"

Huge thanks too to the beautiful Bride Lauren for helping these pages of wedding inspiration look extra special pretty 🙂

Much love,
