Glamorous in Grey ~ A Modern Day Marie Antoinette…

Morning everyone 🙂 I'm venturing a little more towards the style of the modern-day Marie Antoinette with this morning's real wedding feature 🙂 Rosella and Trevor tied the knot in September at St Peter's Italian Church in Clerkenwell, London and celebrated after with a reception at the Stationers' Hall.

Rosella's striking and glamorous grey dress is a design by Terry Fox Bridal Couture

"I had tried so so many dresses on, and I knew I didn't want my gown to be white or ivory. I love period costume and I had been searching the internet for a Marie Antionette inspired dress. That's when I came across Terry Fox. I pretty much knew as soon as I saw her website that was exactly what I was looking for. A period style dress that had a contemporary twist. Something very unique and that hopefully would intrigue my guests. It was the first sample as soon as I walked into Terry's Fox boutique, but it wasn't until I tried it on that I knew for sure that it was the one.

Terry made me a very similar copy to her sample dress but added some vintage buttons that used to be my father's when he was a tailor (he passed away in 2006). She made the whole experience totally stress free. I went for three fittings and it was briliant knowing that dress was being made just for me…"

The couple hired Florist Rachel Morgan

" I choose a pink avalanche rose bouquet, as I thought it would contrast well next to the grey, without being over powering. I wanted it to look contemporary and I think the looped bear grass made it look so. I didn't want all the flowers to be pink, so for the church and the venue I chose pink and ivory as the main colours…"

Trevor wore a besopke suit from King and Allen

When Trevor chose a grey suit, I was very concerned that we would all start to look a bit grey, somehow it worked next to my dress, as it was different enbough in colour. Then the pink broke it up and the slight purple tinge in Trevor's tie…"

"The week of the wedding was very calm for me, (as it had at times been pretty hectic!), I decided that what had been organised had been done, and anything that had been forgotten about, well it was too bad. From the moment I arrived at the church my attitude completely surprised me I was so relaxed and playful, even in the church, trying to sing extra loudly to try and get my guests to sing and waving at them etc."

Rosella's veil was made by Anna -Maria D'Amato…

"It was based on something I had seen on the internet. I bought the fabric on ebay and Anna -Maria D'Amato made it for me. She added a vintage brooch at the back…"

Rings were by Cos of London…

"We designed the rings and our Goldsmith made them for us. He came highly recommended from family and friends and provides good quality for a reasonable price.

The ceylon sapphire in my engagement ring was bought seperately from Justine in Hatton Garden…"

The couple chose the 350 year old wedding reception venue, Stationers' Hall…

"As I wanted to be married by the legendary Priest, Padre Carmelo, at St Peter's Church, we were looking for a venue that wasn't too far away. We wanted something that was very English to balance with the Italian church, as my husband is English, and also it was important that we had a venue with outside space. The in-house caterers seemed great and the whole team at Stationers' are very experienced at catering for weddings. Also it's a venue that's not open to the public and that too was important. Stationers' Hall fit the bill for us…"

"The cake was made by Trevor's Mum. I had shown her some pictures of flowers with ribbons and brooches and one with lots of iced roses. She combined all the elements I liked, plus made a replica of my bouquet for the top of the cake, which was a lovely idea. We loved the cake. The bottom and top tier were fruit and the other was chocolate and carrot cake. It made it all the more special because it was made by Shirley, she put her heart and soul into planning and making the cake and we are truly greatful. One of the best wedding cakes I have ever seen and tasted!"

The couple hired entertainment acts, The Rockabellas, Bellydancer Reshma Rose and Nick of Time, Kitty La Roar and their band

"The entertainment really made the difference on the day, in getting your guests involved and giving them something to enjoy, as we all know wedding days can be very long, so it's was good to break it up with music dancing and chinese lanterns at the end of the evening…"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Make sure you give everyone a very detailed schedule and tell them what their duties on the day are, that way you will totally get to enjoy it, without any unnecessary interruptions. Take your time choosing the elements that are really important to you. I.e it took me 3 months to find a photographer and a dress I liked. Save money on the elements that aren't as important, for me that was transport…"

I think that Rosella pulled off that modern day Marie Antoinette style fabulously! Congratulations Rosella to both you and Trevor and thank you so much for sharing your wedding day style.

Thanks too, as always, to the fabulous Birmingham and West Midlands Wedding Photographer, Steve Gerrard, for allowing his beautiful photographs to be reproduced on Love My Dress.
