How To ‘DIY’ Your Wedding Flowers ~ The Miss Pickering Flower School for Brides…

I'm a very lucky lady.  Not only am I married to a man who can cook, and make dresses, I am also married to a man who is a gifted gardener and really knows his stuff when it comes to pretty much anything green. In fact, my lovely Husband was personally responsible for all things floral (bar mine and my Bridesmaids bouquet's) on our wedding day; he personally grew the seasonal Spring narcissi, cut them the day prior and arranged them on the morning of our wedding.  He nurtured a Magnolia tree that blossomed just days prior to our big day and he grew the prettiest Hellebore that floated gently in water during our wedding ceremony.

I think of all the aspects one can 'DIY' for their wedding day, the flowers must be one of the most rewarding. I'd have loved to have had a go at creating my very own bouquet, what a beautiful personal touch that would have been 🙂 And if I had my time again, I'd absolutely most definitely turn to my friend Miss Pickering for advice on where to start with DIY wedding flowers.

Miss Pickering is a talented Stamford based Florist {offering a nationwide next day delivery service}, who I first blogged about back in May last year.  I was thrilled to learn recently that this creative and hugely talented (not to mention funny and utterly adorable) Florist is now offering a Flower School for Brides

Miss Pickering herself told me more about her wedding flowers workshop…

"We have been inundated with requests for a bridal day, so I am ridiculously pleased to announce the first one. I can't wait to share my passion for beautiful wedding flowers, and tips for getting the most out of your budget.

I adore teaching people how to make things with beautiful flowers. People arrive nervous, most having never tried any of the techniques before, and leave inspired and confident in trying things at home.  I love the squeals of delight when they are told they have the run of the shop, and can choose from any flowers they like to make their arrangements, roses, peonies, hydrangeas, and of course our signature wild and gardeny foliage…"

"The course is aimed at brides, to give them a chance to see and work with lots of beautiful flowers, whether they intend to try their hand at their own wedding flowers, or just want a better understanding of wedding flowers for their first meeting with their florist.  Our aim is to demystify the world of wedding flowers, throw out the rule book, and encourage brides to either give it a go themselves, or just to have a greater understanding of flowers for when they choose a florist."

I just love everything about Miss Pickering, from her marketing strapline ('modern flowers, vintage passion'), to her resident shop dog (who features a little further down in this feature) to Miss P's entertaining tweets and delectable taste in flowers (no gerbera's here!).

I also ADORE Miss Pickering's bed – and you can see that here!

The photographs in this feature were taken by the lovely Polly Alexandre, who was a delegate at one of Miss P's Flower School workshops when she took these lovely images.  Polly explains more…

Isn't he cute?  This is Miss Pickering's dog, who she affectionately refers to as 'The Hound' – or, The Shop Dog.  He has a very important role in terms of quality control inspection, and generally looking Handsome.   He even has his own Blog! 🙂

Polly continues…

"It was a great day, I learned a lot about flowers, I made my own arrangements and I will look at buttonholes with a new found respect. I was also privileged to share a drink in the local with The Hound himself who made sure his best side was showing every time he saw the camera.

I can highly recommend Miss Pickering's Flower School, and my home will be a more beautiful place for it."
