A Short Tulip Wedding Dress for a Winter Wedding in London…

Hi All – enough reader feedback for now – it's time for some real wedding bridal inspiration on this here Wedding Blog! Let's get down to business 🙂

Ellie and  Dan tied the knot on 19 November last year at Marylebone Town Hall, London followed by a reception at the Institute of Contemporary Arts.  These photographs have been kindly shared by UK Wedding Photographer Joanna Brown and I just love the post production edit; the colours are beautiful, and so in keeping with the couple's 1960's style wedding day – everything about these photographs screams 'fabulous wedding day' from the way Jo has captured the couple's smiles to the general sense of love and laughter that emanates from the reception shots. And I love that sense of this being such a fabulous London wedding too! 🙂

Ellie looked gorgeous in a short and tulip dress on her city chic wedding day...

"I designed my dress with the help of a dressmaker – I didn't want to wear a traditional strapless gown. I had always wanted to wear a short, 60s-inspired tulip dress…"

"Although we didn't have a particular dream wedding in mind, we always knew we wanted a winter wedding in London, so things just fell into place from there. And most of all, we wanted it to be fun, but not ridiculous, so the theme kind of developed from the Winter London Wedding foundation."

Ellie wore Shoes by Vivienne Westwood, a hair accessory from Accessorize and gold heart-shaped studs by New York designer Marian Maurer from Atley Clarke

"I went to Wild at Heart in London for the bouquets and buttonholes and chose a selection of autumnal/wintery roses…"

"I chose a song to walk down the aisle to in a last-minute panic the night before the wedding! I chose a Copin Nocturne 2 in E flat…"

What a beautiful choice Ellie…

I just love these confetti shots! Confetti shots are fabulous aren't they? Can't believe we somehow didn't managed to capture one on my own wedding day, especially as I spent ages finding the perfect petals 🙂 Remember to ask your Wedding Photographer to capture this shot – they are one of the loveliest photographs to look back on…

My mother in law put together the table flowers using orange and red roses, miniature cabbages, thistles, eucalyptus, oak leaves and hypericum berries – they were just the wild, seasonal displays we had wanted.

The venue spoke for itself, but we added tea lights in a selection of coloured tea light holders, we hired some white cube furniture for the reception, put bowls of Roses and Quality Street sweeties on the tables. In the dining room, along with candles on the tables and church candles on the big fireplace, we added party poppers and Christmas crackers."

"Our guestbook was a wedding present from my amazing friend Anouschka who spent the time taking Polaroid pictures of all the guests and making sure they left a message against their picture.

When she and her Husband were on the way to the ceremony, they realised they had the wrong size film so he made the BIGGEST dash to John Lewis in Oxford Street to get the correct film and made it to the ceremony with one minute to spare!! What a brilliant friend for going to all that effort!"

"We went for a giant 16-inch, three-layer square carrot cake covered in chunks of fresh figs, mini bunches of red grapes, gold glitter and swirls of purple icing. I left the decoration to the cake maker so the result was a total surprise, and I can say it blew us away when we opened the box on the morning we were due to travel to London to start the preparation. It looked a lot more expensive than it was and I would highly recommend Rachael's Kitchen just outside of Brighton to anyone. Her cakes not only look delicious, they are delicious!"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Just choose the things you love and don't worry about having to make everything perfect. Just keep it simple, don't let anyone panic you into doing things you don't want and try not to get stressed."
