Morning all 🙂 Have you entered the latest competitions on Love My dress yet – there's a beautiful, bespoke, sparkly bridal headpiece and a bottle of 'Oscar' perfume, by Oscar de la Renta up for grabs!
This morning I'd like to share one of those city-chic style London weddings that I just adore, and I love this particular wedding, for Bride Jane's elegant style, but also for her choice of Bridesmaids outfits. How glamorous do her girls look in their green wiggle dresses, little feather headbands, cute elbow length satin black gloves and faux-fur capes? I Luuuurrrvve!!
Jane and Kirk tied the knot on 4 December 2010, with a ceremony at The Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair, London, followed by a reception at The Lansdowne Club in Fitzmaurice Place, Mayfair.
Jane's wedding dress was 'Cognac' by Augusta Jones from House of Fraser Bridal Rooms…
"I wanted something 'city-chic', and the simplicity and slinky elegance of my dress made it perfect for a London wedding.
Our wedding style was inspired by a few different themes – Winter, shooting, City chic and of course the Scottish connection. Happily I found a duck feather shrug to wear with my dress (in Angelica Bridal in Islington) that managed to reflect three of those styles. It was also perfect for a bit of warmth (although not much!)"

Angel Flowers provided the florals…
"The Wedding Florist (Sandra) there was so fantastic. I went in thinking I might have white and red roses. Luckily Sandra was happy enough to suggest some much more interesting alternatives that matched the colour scheme (red, white and green) and having looked at the venue and the bridesmaids outfits she came up with some wonderful ideas that incorporated our varius influences. The Bridesmaids had small bunches of white anemones with black centres and satin ribbon and pearl pins around the stems. They had a sophisticated vintage feel to then that was perfect for the bridemaids overall look. I had red amaryllis, the stem wrapped with Macdiarmid tartan and pins. the button holes were pussy willow, red berries, and a pheasant feather, in keeping with the shooting theme…"
"My Husband bought me a beautiful double strand pearl bracelet which I opened on the morning of the wedding. My something blue was my grandmother's blue sapphire engagement ring which I wore on my right hand. I had two somethings borrowed – my veil and my mother's diamond and sapphire earrings. To complete the rhyme I also had a silver sixpence (that my sister had saved from her wedding day) stuck in my shoe."
Jane's Bridesmaids woere dark green pencil dresses from Coast, Christian Louboutin black round toe courts, duck feather headbands from Accessorize, elbow length satin gloves from John Lewis and earrings from Swarovski and The Earring Boutique…
"When we first started looking for Bridemaids dresses, I just wanted something that would suit both of my (quite different) bridesmaids and hopefully reflect a few of my wedding inspirations. By the end we had created a very city-chic vintage look that perfectly complemented my dress and style. Their dresses also matched the green in the groom's kilt, black accessories gave it a sophisticated city feel and we even managed to bring in the shooting theme with their duck feather headbands.
The vintage brooch my sister wore on her shrug was her own that she had found on an antique's market in Santiago, Chile…"
Jane also wore a feather shrug from Angelica Brides in Islington…
"The veil was my something borrowed – from my sister who bought it for her wedding in 2007. She found it in Morgan Davies in Islington. It is full length and beautifully edged in chantilly lace which gave it a traditional feel. Luckily it matched my dress perfectly. We would love for it to become a family veil – if either of us have a daughter we hope she will want to wear it at her wedding…"
"We chose London (where we live) as Jane grew up in Malaysia (where her parents still live) and it wasn't practical to ask guests to fly over there. We chose the Club for our reception as my sister and her husband are members so we have spent many a happy evening there with them. It is in a great location, close to the church and perfectly blends old fashioned grandeur with the glamour of art deco – which is what I hope I achieved by combining the tradition of game shooting and Kirk's scottish roots with a City chic look for me and my bridesmaids."
"Kirk and I first met on a game shoot, and shooting is a pastime we both love, so we themed our wedding around that. We combined this with a few other influences – Winter, City chic and Kirk's Scottish heritage – to produce the final look and style of the day.
Kirk proposed to me on a weekend away to Edinburgh. He made me get up really early to see the sunrise on top of Arthur's Seat. We sat watching the sunrise and he presented me with a gorgeous emerald cut diamond ring and bottle of champagne -couldn't ask for anything more!"
"The The Lansdowne Club's own candelabra were used as the table centrepieces. We surrounded them with gold pine cones which we collected and sprayed gold ourselves. The top table was dressed differently with a black and gold feathery wreath, so it stood out. the name card holders were black and silver empty shotgun cartridges that we had collected throughout the year and the tables were named after game birds. the menus featured an amusing shooting cartoon depicting various shooting excuses. We titled these "Kirk's shooting excuses". We made all the table stationary ourselves. i bought rolls of gold sparkly material in Malaysia and made table runners for each table myself.
In the Ladies loos at The Lansdowne, I left a basket of ladies essentials with a 'Please help yourselves' sign on it. there were tights, anadin, deodorant, mints, sewing kit etc, comb, but what I should have put in was stain remover wipes as there were lots of red wine spillages!"
"My mother made a small tropical fruit cake iced in white that sat on top of the cupcake stand and the 6 tiers below were full of chocolate brownies baked by my sister. A gold wooden duck sat on top of the cake (in keeping with the shooting theme) and a long gold ribbon was tied around the cake with a bow at the front. I also collected photos from all of our friends weddings that we have been to over the years and surrounded the cake with pictures of all the Brides and Grooms…"
"Our first dance was to Carly simon 'Nobody Does it Better', because we both love James Bond movies. We were meant to practice our routine a few times before the wedding but ran out of time. In the end, Kirk gave up trying to remember the steps and resorted to lifting me up and swinging me around a lot – which got all the guests clapping and cheering loudly! "
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
"During your engagement do at least one big job a month to spread the workload, even if it feels like you're doing some things ridiculously early.
The last six weeks go really fast and there are so many jobs that you just can't do early, so anything that you can get done and out the way beforehand when you have more time, do it.
If budgets allow try not to do everything yourself as it will feel like the wedding is taking over your life which is really boring for all your friends and fiance!"

Thanks Jane for sharing your style secrets with my readers – you look super-chic on your wedding day and I just love that shot of Kirk swinging you round on the dance floor – hehehe! ;) Of cousre, huge thanks too, to Claudine Sinnett of Moments Captured Photography for allowing reproduction of these photographs…
"Claudine photographed my sisters wedding and she has an amazing style that I love. She also merges into the background so you don’t even notice you’re being photographed which gets some great natural shots!"
