Pretty Phase Eight Wedding Dress for an Audrey Hepburn Inspired Bride…

I always feel so heartened when I find out that one of the Bride's I'm featuring used Love My Dress for inspiration when planning her own wedding.  Yay for Bride Jen here, who is looking fabulous in her wedding photographs with Husband Dan.  The couple's big day took place on 29th December at Park Circus, Registry Office in Glasgow, followed by a reception at Stravaigin 2 and an evening reception at  29 Private Members Club.

Jen's rather glamorous dress was the 'Stephanie Wedding Dress', by Phase Eight and cost just £250 and this Bride is a very creative lady who added lots of personal, home-made touches to hver overall look…

"I love old films and the style of actresses such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Katherine Hepburn, and I wanted a dress that had a vintage look. I did quite a lot of research and fell in love with a dress by Joanna Johnson called The Cosette, which I saw on Love my Dress. Unfortunately this was out of my price range, as I would have had to travel to Australia to buy it! (No deliveries unfortunately)*.

After seeing it though, I was hooked on the idea of a pleated dress and searched high and low until I found my Stephanie Dress, which I ordered on line from Phase Eight. I loved the dress and enjoyed the idea that it was a blank canvas which I could personalise and make my own.

I didn’t want to wear just an all-white dress and felt it needed more definition; so I purchased 3 metres of black satin ribbon and made my own belt. I also made my own broach with matching headpiece from homemade fimo roses (cream, grey and black), pearls from necklaces I had cut up, and diamante stones secured with wire…"

"My mum had given me Hepburn-like long black gloves years ago for Christmas and they worked really well with the dress, as the top of the gloves lined up with the top of my belt.

Also, as we got married in the winter and we knew it could be really cold – we were lucky not to have snow! – my mum knitted me a really long, beautiful and cosy soft black wool wrap to keep me warm!  Lots of nice personal touches!"

"My beautiful flowers were by Anne Haveron. I went for simple Grandprix roses to add a touch of colour.

I also love big necklaces and found this one in Mikey, it was very heavy but worth it! My bracelet was from John Lewis, and I borrowed simple pearl stud earrings from my mum…"

"Our day was quite heavily influenced by the fact it was a winter wedding. I don’t quite know how it happened (!) but we also seemed to end up with a black and white theme…."

"We had a small, intimate wedding with just our immediate family in Park Circus Registry, which is in the beautiful west end of Glasgow…."

In her hair, Jen wore a self-made headpiece of woven pearls, stones and roses….

Jen's shoes were a bargain purchase from Next at just £45!

"I wanted a pair of semi-practical shoes that would also keep my toes warm! I saw these in the window of Next and they just matched the colour of my dress perfectly. I also had a pair of satin evening shoes for the party but in the end I danced the night away in my Next shoes!"

"After a great dinner at Stravaigin 2 we made our way to 29 Private Members Club for our evening reception. We chose ‘29' as the Network Bar we hired looked great – very stylish and chic; which meant we didn’t have to do too much decorating ourselves!"

"My mum was in charge of the cake. She bought a plain top tier from a local cake shop and ordered 120 plain white Celebration Fairy Cakes from Waitrose. She spent hours and hours making beautiful iced roses of various styles and sizes, and then she decorated each of the fairy cakes with these by hand! They were beautiful, delicious, and a total hit!"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Don’t feel constrained by traditional formats for a wedding day. Go with what you are happy with, and try and include some personal touches…."

Congratulations Jen and Dan on your fabulous and tres stylish winter wedding :)  And huge thanks as always to Scottish Wedding Photographers, Mirrorbox Photography

"We love our Wedding photographs! We honestly couldn’t have been happier with how they worked and what they did for us.

We were really impressed by their website and from the minute we met them we were absolutely confident that they would do a great job for us – even with the little direction we were able to give them! Sequoia and Sam were so easy to work with – a nice mixture of being relaxed, friendly and unobtrusive, but with the ability to organise us quickly and get the job done on the day.

It was great for us to be able to relax and leave them to it. They managed to capture so many special wee moments from our wedding day and they have given us really unique and stylish photographs with a cool, vintage look.
We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone – they were brilliant!"

I love how Jen was inspired by Audrey Hepburn in styling her wedding day look.  Are you taking inspiration from any particular style icons for your own wedding?

Back soon with lots more to inspire you my faithful friends! 🙂

Much love,
