A Relaxed, Outdoor Garden Wedding for a Bride Who Made Her Own Dress…

Good morning and Gooooooood Friday!

To get us into the spirit of this great run of good weather we're experiencing, I thought I'd feature a few photographs from this lovely outdoor wedding, full of pretty hand-made DIY details and bit of a treat for all you eco-friendly Brides.

Ruth and Pete's wedding took place on 26 June 2010 in the garden of Ruth's family home in Mayfield, East Sussex {lucky family!!}.  I love how this couple kept their own personal vision of their wedding and didn't feel that they had to confirm to any type of tradition, from the pretty patchwork style wedding dress that Ruth made herself, to the invitations typed up individually using an antique typewriter – it meant that Ruth and Pete's wedding day was full of personal touches that really meant something…

"I'm a designer & grew up making clothes with my Mum, so I always knew that I would make my own wedding dress. It means the end result is individual & personal to me, something that no one else has. It was never going to be a traditional white dress, I love print & colour too much.

My dress is made from fabric that I had collected over the years. It includes fabric from my Grandma, my Granny and some of my mums wedding dress fabric. It is made up of so many memories and every piece tells a story. It cost me £0 just hours & hours of my time!

My friend Freya, who loves flowers, created our flower arrangements. They were all from either her garden or my parents'. They were natural, informal arrangements using colourful country garden flowers & grasses."

I love the couple's choice of wedding venue…

"My family home & garden in the Sussex countryside – It's where I grew up & is very important to us. We wanted the day to be individual to us with a personal, informal & relaxed feel.  We did the official paper work at Lewes registry office a few days before with only immediate family.

We also wanted to the share the beauty of the garden with our family & friends.  We also tried to keep everything local & personal, by using suppliers that were recommended by friends, based locally, or just doing it ourselves as a family…"

Ruth wore a sprig of orange blossom from the garden in her hair. And apart from that, Ruth kept her look simple and sweet, wearing only a silver bracelet and string of pearls bracelet…

"…they were from someone important to me that is no longer with us…"

"As decor, I used loads of home made bunting, print fabric & cushions, hanging lanterns, tea lights in jam jars, jugs, vases & pots of flowers.  I also used home grown flower seeds in terracotta pots in tea cups & saucers, crochet doilies, fun candles, glass bottles, collected & dried rose petal confetti in glass & old sweetie jars…."

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Be organised, try to delegate and pick the things that are most important to the day, because there will never be enough time to do everything you want.  Most of all stay true to your own vision.

We had an amazing day & it was made so special because of all the people that contributed towards it and shared it with us."
