A Very British Wedding for a London Loving Bride…

Afternoooooon! 😉 OK, let's get down to wedding blog business. I've been a super busy-bee this past 24 hours and my usual schedule has gone a little stray but I'm back with a vengeance people so you had better be ready.

Do you remember this cute London engagement shoot of Lucy and Greg back in June, styled by vintage wedding planner and Love My Dress fave, Tiffany Grant-Riley? Well this gorgeous couple went and got hitched on 4th June at The Ridings in Theobalds Park, Cheshunt and Tiffany was on hand once more to ensure Lucy and Greg's day was styled to perfection.

Bride Lucy wanted a very British wedding that reflected her love of London. She opted to wear a lovely Alan Hannah dress that she accompanied with a single tier cathedral length veil from Morgan Davies Bridal and some Jimmy Choo heels.  It wasn't, however, the first wedding dress that Lucy had purchased…

"I had originally bought a Jenny Packham less traditional dress, however my Mum later went off this dress and was uncomfortable with me wearing it to a Church ceremony.  So I hunted around and came across an Alan Hannah dress at Morgan Davies, I loved the vintage beading at the top, the beading trim originally was in shoulder straps, but I asked them if they could make it a halter neck as it provided a lovely symmetrical shape. Although you couldn’t really see the halterneck because of my hair on the day, I am still glad I changed the straps…"

Lucy actually wore the Jenny Packham dress she originally purchased at her engagement shoot!

"Greg and I decided to have Haribo sweet pictures as our table names, so we took photographs of different sweets, and then had jars of sweets in the evening for guests to eat. The Haribo have a personal story connected but that’s for another day ;-)"

I love that smokin' hot photo of Lisa getting ready. What a set of pins! And super loving the Bardot-esque hair going on there 😉

"Greg wanted to buy his groomsmen suits rather than hiring them.  We tried most of the usual shops in central London but the service was either poor or they didn’t have the size ranges we needed.  There is a local shop near us that Greg gets most of his work suits from, the owner was able to do us a very good deal including waist coats and shirts on Italian Slim cut black suits – it pays to ask smaller shops what their best deals would be.

Greg wore a handkerchief in his pocket, and cuff links I bought him as a wedding gift from Burlington Arcade in London…"

"My engagement ring was left to me by my Grandma.  One of my lasting memories of her when I was a young child, is her baking cakes with her bright red nails and the amazing rings she wore.  She always bought her jewellery from Reid and Sons in Newcastle, so we decided to get our wedding rings there as a small gesture to her…"

Rebecca Mays was the Florist for the day…

"I wanted to use country flowers in season in shades of cream and white with touches of green so Rebecca’s recommendations were perfect. My grandmother’s flower was freesia so I wanted to make sure we included those somewhere, as well as agapanthas’s that Greg’s Nan and Granddad used to have in their garden.

The David Austin roses in my bouquet smelt absolutely beautiful.

My bouquet was tied with some lace and a borrow broach from Greg’s Nan…"

The key requirements for the chosen wedding venue, The Ridings, were:

  • Enough rooms for all our guests to stay – Theobald’s Park has plenty of bedrooms and a large number of them are situated around the barn, so it felt like we were having exclusive hire without the additional cost.
  • The bar was next to the dance floor – we have been to lots of weddings where the guests are split and the dance floor was empty as everyone was in the bar.
  • It was a blank canvas for us to put our own stamp onto

"Venue decor included Paper Pom Poms in gold, cream and white, giant 3ft round balloons by Jo Uddin at Inflated Ideas and Cable and Cotton lights.  My sister and I also spent hours making a large number of cushions for the courtyard to compliment the theme.  With the remaining fabric I also made Just Married bunting which Tiffany hung over the band area."

"Greg, my twin sister Sarah and I spent hours over a weekend making my grandmother’s homemade fudge recipe which is legendary in our family, packaging them up in cellophane bags and sealing them with a sticker of our grandmother on her wedding day.  Not something I would recommend as you “have” to try each batch – which is not great when we all had outfits to get into!"

Hang on, does the Bridesmaid below right look familiar?

…that's Lucy's twin Sister! Double beauty all-round! 🙂 The Bridesmaids, Sarah and Madeline, wore accessories by Gilda's Tryst.

Sarah, Lucy's twin, wore a broach from her Grandma, just like Lucy did, and Madeline wore some vintage style goves from Accessorize
