A very warm welcome once again to Rebecca, formerly of the Rock My Wedding blog, who has written a fabulous blog post all about vintage inspired wedding hair styles. Pop a comment at the end to let us know which is your favourite and why…

Hello! It's Rebecce here again! 🙂 Today I'm doing a little round up of my favourite Vintage 'Looks'. I think one of my favourite aspects of Vintage style has to be the hair and make-up. Screen sirens, black and white hollywood era glamour, up, down, anyway you like it, there's a look for you. One of the biggest concerns I think most Brides have is keeping their look timeless. Although Vintage era styling may be a popular theme right now and even passed off by some as a 'phase' in fact, channelling a bygone era with an up to date take on a style really couldn't be more classic, whilst keeping your look individual.
Deco Drama and Marcel Waves…
One of the most authentic looks (and it takes a stylish bride to carry this off) is the Marcel wave. Beloved of your very own Annabel here at Love My Dress, who wore a Marcel wave for her own wedding. You can see her sporting the look again here…

I'm no expert on the matter but for me it's a perfect look for the bride channelling an Art Deco look, glamorous, elegant and decadent…

And if you want to go all out… how about the addition of a stunning Art Deco headband? There are a multitude of Vintage accessory designers around who would just love to create something perfect for your Wedding Day.

One of the things I also love about this style is you can still totally nail it with short hair, like this Bride with a gorgeous Jenny Packham Acacia Headband and pincurls at the base of the style.

Or, if there's not even enough of your hair to work a curl in, how about the sleekest of Louise Brooks style bobs? You can make it look flapper-ish like this bride, or mod-sixties style if that suits your wedding more…

Forties Fabulous…
My absolute favourite of the vintage styles has to be the forties… perhaps something to do with the fact that it by far suits my face the most. I can even remember trying to get my hair into the most glamourous low chignon in tribute to the sirens of stage and screen that I idolised! And that makes this beautiful Bride possibly my favourite on this page 😉

The birdcage veil (that'll be another of my favourites then!) works beautifully in this era, along with a slick of red lipstick to add the Va Va Voom factor…

Of course, it's not all about the glamourous up-do's as this war-time tribute Engagement shoot shows, with seriously cheekbone enhancing victory rolls.

For those brave enough to really work a vintage look, I don't think this beautiful bride-to-be could have possibly looked any prettier… and its certainly an idea to choose such a strong look for an engagement shoot, if you're worried about keeping your wedding day styling classic.

Of course, it doesn't have to be all about the up-do. If you want to channel a vintage vibe but make the most of your crowning glory, think Rita Hayworth and work a wave…

Hepburn Chic…
You just can. not. fault Audrey Hepburn for her beautifully chic and classic styling, which is why the oversized sleek bun makes my 'favourites' list for sixties style. Work it with a short shift or a simple but full skirted style and bask in the compliments you will receive.

The other thing the sixties go down in my history books for? The Bee Hive. Seriously sassy, and it actually doesn't require great lengths. Try it half up and half down to wear your hair long, or in a neat french pleat (yes they can be made cool!) at the back if you want to wear your hair up. I am loving the cute bow band this Bride added!

Spirit of the Seventies…
And last up, the Seventies. And I guess this is a little request to Brides, as whilst trawling through these vintage inspired pages of Love My Dress, there wasn't much in the way of Real Brides channelling a Seventies look. Amongst the inspiration boards I remembered this stunning shoot recently posted, with two fabulous seventies inspired looks. Check out the distressed and decadent Studio 54-esque up-do and the angelic looking festival tribute boho curls.

So that's it for now… tell us your favourite era to channel and if indeed you'll be trying one of these styles for your big day. And don't feel left out photographers – what would you like to see at your next wedding?
Yours Truly,
Rebecca xoxo
