An Original Edwardian Wedding Dress for a Vintage Summer Garden Party Wedding…

Hello! Well a little later than usual but of course, I like to keep you waiting a little for the best 😉 I simply couldn't wait until the morning to share this beautiful, colourful DIY wedding – that of Jane and Dylan, who tied the knot on 20th August 2011 at The Little White House (& garden), in Setley, the New Forest {no website} with a vintage summer garden party style wedding.

Jane wore the most beautiful original vintage lace Edwardian wedding dress

"I found the dress on an American website/blog after searching for vintage wedding dresses. It’s an original Edwardian wedding dress.  As soon as I saw the photos, I fell in love with it. I thought the dress was beautiful and couldn’t let it go to someone else! My mother, who is an incredible seamstress agreed it was worth restoring for me.

The original under dress had disintegrated over time, so she made a new one and altered the dress to fit me, adding beautiful details along the way such as mother of pearl fastenings. Thankfully, apart from some minor marks, the lace was in incredible condition considering the dress dates from around 1910…"

"My mother is a genius when it comes to designing and making clothing and I’ve always known that there was no-one else I could trust with something so important! It was a real labour of love, and worth the effort, I have something that is absolutely unique and I will keep forever. I just need to find an occasion when I can wear it again!

I wore a faux-pearl necklace given to me by Dylan’s mum which had belonged to her grandmother. They’re such a beautiful colour and helped us to choose the dusty pink under-dress. It was a privilege to wear them and they are something that I will continue to treasure…"

"This house and garden belongs to family that live overseas and use it as their UK base. Since I was little, it has been the setting for family holidays and gatherings, birthdays etc. Some of Dylan’s family live in the States and my elder sister also lives in America with her family, so we wanted to be somewhere that lots of people could stay for a couple of days prior to the wedding.

It has a huge garden and adjoining field, and we knew we wanted to be outside and to have people camping over after the event! The Tentipi was used for the ceremony and dancing and in the evening we had a campfire…"

"The flowers came from The Real Cut Flower Garden and were couriered to the house the day before the wedding and arranged into tissue-paper wrapped jam jars on the morning. The flowers are grown sustainably and so you receive whatever is in season. We really wanted the flowers and bouquets to be as relaxed and natural as possible, and they were perfect…"

"We hired the caterers Estelle & Vincent. They provided an amazing middle-eastern inspired cold buffet. We love middle-eastern food and they put together an incredible spread. Lots of guests thought it was the best wedding food they had tasted and it was perfect for a hot summer’s day.  Later on in the evening, my chef-brother, Mike, cooked up a fantastic barbeque by the camp-fire to keep us sustained for the dancing!"

"We did all the décor ourselves. Chinese lanterns strung across the drive-way, hand-cut papal picado strung up in the  Tentipi and butterfly paper-bag lanterns with tea-lights to provide lit pathways when it got dark. I also cut out butterfly shaped cards for guests to leave us messages on before hanging up by ribbon in the tentipi. It took a lot of effort to get everything done, but many hands made light work in the end!"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"We couldn’t have had the day we did without the huge amount of support from friends and family in the setting up. It was a great team-effort. Use all the help you can get; there is always so much more to do on the day than you imagine.

Look for bargains and don’t be afraid to diy if you need to work within a budget. We were thrilled with our home-made decorations, all the hard-work we had put in made the day even more special.

After a long night of dancing in the Tentipi, there were no more taxis to take us back to our hotel. We walked a mile in the dark, carrying butterfly lanterns to light our way, the perfect end to an awesome day…"

And the moral of the story there is – pre-book the taxis! 😉

Absolutely beautiful – huge congratulations to you Jane and Dylan for your beautiful, relaxed and colourful wedding day.

And thank you Anneli for sharing these images – they are absolutely wonderful 😉

"The awesome Anneli Marinovich photographed our wedding. We found her online and knew from her photos that she would be able to capture our day perfectly. She was brilliant at using the light to capture the dreamy-ness of it all. She made us feel incredibly relaxed in front of the camera and was great with the guests. There were so many fantastic moments and she managed to capture them all."
