Navy Blue and Peach Perfection for a Royal Lace, Queens House Wedding…

Afternoon my gorgeous blog readers 🙂 It’s a pretty peachy kind of day over here at Love My Dress 😉 I started off this morning with the lovely wedding of Amy and David, and this afternoon, I feel pleased as punch to be able to share the August wedding of Hannah & Justin with you – which was beautifully photographed in all it’s gorgeous Summer-time London light by Dominique Bader.

I just adore Hannah’s whole era inspired wedding day look – from her curled hair and sparkly hair accessory, to her elegant silk dress – a bespoke ‘made just for Hannah’ creation, by designer Jenny Lessin, who used lace from the same supplier used to create Kate Middleton’s wedding dress…

“Being 5’1 and a size 12/14 I knew the dresses in magazines and in wedding shops were not designed with me in mind: any dress I chose would either have to be made-to-measure at a high price or be so heavily altered to fit me that it would end up looking completely different.  To top it all off, I found it impossible to know what would really suit me when it was cut down to my size! It was at that point of exasperation that I decided to start looking for a dress maker. Jenny Lessin’s name came up instantly and I could see from her website that the quality of her dresses were exceptional – they were also nothing like I had seen in the magazines – each dress was completely unique and tailored to the bride…”

“At our first meeting I was completely put at ease, Jenny was so sensitive to all my worries about my various and numerous lumps and bumps.  Having worked with real women of all shapes and sizes she was able to explain all the options to me. It turned out that what I had thought I wanted wasn’t what I wanted at all! I ended up choosing a dress that I would never have found in a shop – something completely unique to me...”

The end result was absolutely breathtaking. It fitted like a dream and the soft, glamorous satin was so comfortable to wear. The spotted lace added a youth to the look that I had always wanted as well as a touch of my playful personality – getting married is supposed to be fun after-all! I honestly cannot count the number of compliments I have had, both on the day and since then.  All the girls wanted to know who had made my dress so they could have Jenny design their dress one day. I have never looked nor felt so beautiful in my life, and I don’t know how I ever will again!”

“I love a blend of modern and timeless – I’m a thoroughly modern woman but I can’t resist the romance of the films and styling of the 1930’s and 1940’s. That seemed to really come out in my choice of venue and styling although it was quite subconscious at first. I also wanted a modern colour scheme that would make both me and Justin comfortable – not a sparkly pink extravaganza! I spent a lot of time looking at colour schemes on wedding websites and thought navy and peach was gorgeous and flattering and I really enjoyed adding those touches into the details from the ‘Save the Dates’ to the cupcakes!”

Navy is my FAVE colour ever Hannah! And I completely adore your choice of Biba dresses {House of Fraser people! for your Bridesmaids. A moment of pure colour genius there 😉

“As my colour scheme was peach and navy (and there aren’t many navy flowers out there) we decided to go for a variety of peach flowers and actual peaches to give a fresh and modern look that was still timeless. The highlight of which was the stunning Juliet roses provided by David Austen Roses…”

Hannah’s divine hair accessory was by Twigs and Honey who are another brand I completely adore – they were one of the first brands I ever blogged about a whole two years ago now! 🙂

The couple chose Queen’s House in Greenwich, London as their venue…

“We are city people – so the idea of getting married in a Stately home or a castle in the countyside never appealled. As soon as I saw Queen’s House I knew it was perfect – in the city but surrounded by the beautiful Greenwich Park and Naval College as well as stunning views of the river and Canary Wharf.

Inside it is timeless – feeling both elegant and modern. We also loved the idea of having the whole wedding in one space, so that once the day gets started we could relax and enjoy it!”

“When we were teenagers we had the same friendship group so we saw each other around quite a lot. As we were both so shy we never really spoke but I always had a soft spot for him.  We both left home at 18 and we didn’t see each other again until Facebook arrived some three years later. Justin decided to join after being harrassed by his friends and so we became facebook friends. It became clear that we had a lot in common and so we began talking. I was already in a very bad relationship but I didn’t tell him that, he was my one source of happiness…”

“After a month or so we decided to meet and I came back home to see him. I never looked back. A few days later I had to return to my home some 300 miles away,  but I had already made my decision – this person was ‘the one’. The next day I had packed my bags and moved back home. Four and a half years on we were married, joined by both our old friends and the new ones we picked up along the way.

Justin rescued me from a nightmare and in the process has made me the happiest girl in the world. As it said on our order of service, “Good things come to those who wait”.

“I really wanted simple cakes that are good value and taste as good as they look, rather than a really expensive cake that tastes just OK. I’ve always loved visiting  Crumbs & Doilies at Sloane Square market so they were the obvious choice, especially as they don’t charge a premium for weddings!”

“We danced to ‘God Only Knows’ by The Beach Boys – we didn’t decide on our first dance (and whether we’d have one) until the week of the wedding. We had never had ‘our song’, or at least one that would be appropriate for a first dance so it was impossible to choose. We went with Beach Boys because our parents love them and it’s the sweetest song. It was the song that finally made us go ‘YES! THAT’S IT!’ – a big relief! And now we do have a song to call our own and that will remind us of our big day…”

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

”Make the big decisions early: Venue, Florist, Caterers, Dress maker. The rest will fall into place.

Once you know who your suppliers are and you trust them it makes the tiny details less important. I went with specialist events companies who are used to doing big corporate events as well as weddings – I knew they would be able to pull off the day seamlessly.

I am lucky enough to have a super talented best friend who designed all our stationary for a fraction of the cost of many wedding stationers. It’s worth asking around or looking on websites where individuals advertise their graphic design talents – you might save yourself a fortune!”

Just another sublimely beautiful wedding photographed by the fantastic Dominique Bader – I swear that every wedding of hers I feature takes my breath away….

“I searched for a long time for a photographer I liked and didn’t succeed. I didn’t want anyone too ‘traditional’, but at the same time I’m not someone who loves the camera and so I knew some of the more contemporary photographers weren’t for me. The photos are great but I didn’t want to stand around for hours posing – I just wanted to enjoy my day.

My bridesmaid recommended Dominique Bader as she knew her from university – and when I saw her website she was exactly on my wavelength. Gorgeous, timeless shots with a really relaxed feel to them.  Dominique was really in tune with what I wanted from the photos and knew exactly when to let us take a break and enjoy ourselves, it made the process so much more enjoyable.

Now that I have the photos I am absolutely bowled over by how beautiful they are. I have always hated having my picture taken, so to have photos that I actual like is a miracle in itself, but to have had so many wonderful comments about them has been the icing on the cake. She did an absolutely fantastic job and I would recommend her to the most camera-shy of brides!”

How completely lovely 🙂

Are there any other city Brides out there planning something similar to Hannah and Justin’s wedding? 1. Oh wow totally ADORE this wedding! What a dress! Just exactly the type of design I want, I’m also short (5/2 n a bit) and can’t stand anything of the strapless variety, this is just so pretty! Loving all the peach today!

  2. Oh wow, what beautiful, romantic images. So pretty. I love the combination of peach and navy, not two colours that I would have automatically put together but it works wonderfully! x
