Silver Sixpence In Her Shoe ~ Bespoke Vintage Inspired Accessories for the Modern Bride + 10% Discount…

This afternoon's shoot needs very little introduction from me, because I want these absolutely stunning images to do all the talking – the images, and the designer behind the items they are showcasing so beautifully.

Meet Nicola Wellard from 'Silver Sixpence In Her Shoe'. She makes beautiful accessories for Brides, she's just launched an exquisite new collection {seen before you here today} and she'd like to offer all readers a 10% discount on any order {see end of feature}…

"As a designer I am always inspired by the materials I use rather than sitting down and designing flat on paper. The new 2012 collection was a joy for me to design as the story begins with a box of true antique laces given to me by my mother in law, all handmade by her grandmother.  I was a bit speechless when she passed these onto me.

There was such history there and it was tragic that these were sitting in a box, they were just so beautiful and delicate! There were even tiny little applique collars (the Delilah headband is made from a single small collar piece) A lot of gentle washing and pressing later, I set to work updating these treasured laces into contemporary headpieces, garters, and other really beautiful things"

"In terms of the photoshoot, I knew I wanted to work with Katy Lunsford as I love her dreamy but modern style. I was delighted when she wanted to shoot the collection!  As the team behind the 1950s vespa shoot which you featured a while back, we had all enjoyed working together so it seemed natural to it again.

This time we wanted to keep the styling simple as we really wanted to showcase the accessories. Ailsa, the very talented shoot stylist, did some great lifestyle set ups too where she had this amazing knack of just throwing a garter ontop of a pile of books and it making it look perfect. It is a real skill!"

"We used dresses sourced from vintage boutiques and one showstopping wedding dress from David Fielden which really came to life when we added a flash of rouge to our model wearing it…"

Shoot stylist Ailsa described the concept behind these images…

"The whole concept of the shoot was designed to be graceful, dreamy and beautiful but we also wanted aspiring brides to be able to look at these pictures and imagine how they would look in Silver Sixpence in her Shoe on her special day.

We tried to resist the temptation of using wedding dresses for every shot and styled a few different looks around the headpieces and bands to showcase their uniqueness and diversity…"

"Whether you want to take on a full birdcage veil or just a modest flowered hair comb there is something for everyone. A favourite new edition for me is the forehead birdcage style of the Lucinda and Dolly veils. It suits the bride who wants to wear a birdcage but doesn't want to go too statement as it appears to float in your hair.

All my birdcage veils can be made removeable if that is what the client prefers. The headbands can be worn as forehead bands too. You can choose between comb or handwrapped headband attachments to your piece too as I always make to order…"

"This seasons garters incorporate thoughtful details such as a single blue pearl stitched inside for your something blue. Antique laces and vintage jewellery pieces adorn these and make them a piece you will keep for years to come…"

As a stylist, one of my favourite parts of this photoshoot was putting together the props for the lifestyle shots. We used words from this poem as inspiration…"

 "Little moments make an hour
Little thoughts; a book;
Little seeds, a tree or flower;
Water-drops, a brook;
Little deeds of faith and love
Link the earth to Heaven above…"

"A lot of the pieces had a lovely antique tea stained colour to them so I used warm nudey, peachy tones of beading and antique ivory pearls to compliment these. Even the least girly of brides cannot resist a teeney bit of sparkle in my experience, so some of the birdcage veils are scattered with just a smattering of tiny crystals, to catch the light in your photos…"

A new edition to the collection is the decorated lucky horseshoe made from real reconditioned shoes I get from a farmer in Devon! Again lovingly embellished with laces and vintage jewellery finds.  We felt they tied in well with some of the ‘Little’ things that go to making a Bride’s day special such as the gift of a bespoke garter, the detail of a handmade shoe clip which completes the perfect pair of shoes, or the ornate detailing of the antique lace on a lucky horse shoe…"

"The shoe clips have taken off since a lot of brides seem to be buying high street shoes for their big day. It is great to make these unique by adding the shoe clips…"
