A DIY Bride Who Made Her Own Wedding Dress…

Afternoon everyone! ;)  A late installment of wedding day celebration this afternoon, as I share the photographs from Paul and Pauline's {I know!} wedding, which took place on 3 September in Southport, and was captured on camera by talented Manchester Wedding Photographer, Tobiah Tayo.

Pauline made her very own wedding dress, isn't she clever?  I hugely admire anyone who can make their own dresses, I so wish I had that skill.  Maybe I should learn one day – in fact, Pauline, I think you have ignited a plan to make sure that within the next year at least, I learn how to make a frock! Thank you Pauline 🙂

"I made my own dress out of cream duchess satin and Swarovski pearls around the neckline, round the waist, rounds the cuff and down the back.

I have a skin condition (vitiligo) which I am really conscious of and so wanted a dress with sleeves.  Also have 3 boys, 2 under the age of 3, a big traditional dress would not have been practical – also it wouldn’t have been me.  I bought the underskirt from Petticoats-a-plenty.

My dress inspired the whole look for our day.  I also knew I didn’t want a traditional wedding, we wanted it to be relaxed and informal.  We wanted to make the day our own and individual…"

"My eldest son Ben gave me away, I was so proud to walk down the aisle with him and he even did a short speech which made me even more proud as he is only 13 and we had around a 100 guests there.  I walked down the aisle to the harp player playing “Make you Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan (Adele also sings it)…"

"We met nearly 7 years ago now and I knew pretty much straight away he was my soul mate and I am so happy to have become Paul’s wife.  Paul proposed when I was 8 months pregnant with our 3rd son.  It was on our 5th year anniversary together and he said lets go on the Big Ferris wheel that was in Liverpool.  It was a struggle for me to even fit through the door on to the booth.  We got to the top of the wheel and he proposed to me there. I just cried with joy and eventually said yes…"

"We got a Vintage Hydrangea cake from Choccywoccydoodah.  They added some chocolate pearls (to match my dress) and some other flowers that we had in flower arrangements.  Looked amazing and tasted pretty damn good too! We drove to Brighton the Tuesday, picked it up from the shop and drove back on the Wednesday before the wedding.  I just love their cakes and was so happy we could have one.  They did it in more subtle colours but still used the pinks and purples…"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Don’t let the weather bother you – the one thing you can’t control.   I thought it might rain so I chose to buy a gorgeous umbrella that I would be happy with on our photos.

Also go with what you really want even if you think people will think that’s not the norm, it’s your day and you don’t want to think I wish I would have done this/that…"

Get that last shot!!

Huge congratulations to Paul and Pauline on their lovely wedding day.  Thanks too as always to Manchester Wedding Photographer Tobiah Tayo

"Tobiah Tayo captures the feeling of the day and picks up on all the details.  He and Laura are so personable and manage to take pictures when you don’t even realise he is there.  He made having our photos taken fun and it wasn’t stressful. The photobooth was great at the end of the evening.
It rained the whole day for our wedding but they still were ok with us having some of our pictures in the rain…"
