Morning All 😉 I’d like to introduce you to one of my Sponsors this morning – the really important people and brilliant suppliers and brands that make it possible for me to be here bringing you inspiration on a daily basis through Love My Dress at all.

So, say hello to West Sussex Wedding Photographer, Martin Beddall

“My name is Martin Beddall and I have been an editorial photographer, shooting for titles such as The Times, The Independent, Financial Times, Independent on Sunday and Barron’s Magazine for twenty years.  I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Photojournalism at The London College of Printing and a couple of weeks after I graduated, (with a week on the local newspaper in between), found myself at The Times photographing the Prime Minister – it was very much in at ‘the deep end’!

During my period of work at The Times, I got both readers and colleagues asking me to shoot their weddings in a photojournalistic style, and so a new passion for recording couples wedding days began…”

“I’m based in Horsham, West Sussex and am very happy to travel around the UK and abroad to shoot weddings. In the past from Portugal to Cumbria, West Wales to the Cote d’Azur – I always love to shoot at new venues….”

“My personal belief is that good wedding photography is about good storytelling. It is about the photographer’s unique ‘eye’ and their experience – that’s where great images come from – not which digital camera you use or the latest Photoshop effects…”

“Wedding photography has become overburdened with terms, “documentary”,”wedding photojournalism”,”contemporary” or “reportage”, etc and they are terms you have to use for clients to find and define you.  All I can say is I treat it like a magazine assignment, recording the story of the day in a variety of images and not interfering. But watching, looking for angles, the light, anticipating moments and the emotions to build up a complete visual document of the day.

My emphasis is very much upon the people and telling the story of the day and what happens to them. I do shoot details, but I don’t “pump up” the coverage with them. They appear to tell the story, as you would on a editorial layout. The broad picture, the intimate picture, all combine for a full coverage.”

So why Wedding Photography?

trans“It has to be the pleasure the images give the couples and their families. But also for me, it is why I am a photographer and love still photography. It is the seeking out and capturing significant moments and creating (hopefully) memorable images.

The wedding photographer is recording for future years, the images need to be able to stand up and still tell the story years from now. If someone calls an image ‘timeless’, then you’ve done your job…”
