Pink Tulle, Carousels, Sunshine and the Seaside…

Hi everyone :)  It's been a long time coming this one, I've been looking forward to featuring the work of Photographer Ali Lovegrove for such a long time and so this morning's little belter of a blog post makes me happy.  And double happy too because it also features the work of the delightful stationery designer, Leah from Golden Apple Designs and talented dressmaker Louise from Oh My Honey Dresses.  Now whilst it's cold, wet, miserable outside and snowy for some of your right now, I'm bringing you an excuse to start to feel warmer, with this lovely inspiration shoot that took place on Brighton Beach at the end of Summer…

Leah and Ali got together to share the full details about this shoot with me…

"This end of summer beach shoot has been the culmination of five months worth of excitable emails, girly mood boards and frantic tweets. We have poured both our personalities into it and we are so excited to have the results grace the glamorous pages of Love My Dress.

The shoot started life as a little get together for us both to meet; having spent even more months chatting via twitter and facebook, and for us just to have a bit of fun. As we spent more and more time discussing concepts, brainstorming ideas and constantly chatting about what we wanted to do it just started getting bigger and bigger – at one point there was even talk of a weekend in Paris!"

"Throughout the planning for the shoot our focus was on a very girly, feminine and pastel theme. We wanted to incorporate all the fun of the fair with carousel rides and candy colours; taking much of our inspiration from the colours of a vintage carousel, as well as fluffy candyfloss, sweets and strawberry milkshake. We couldn’t think of a more perfect location than Brighton and eagerly set to work conceptualising the shoot, potential suppliers and the gorgeous range of wedding stationery designed by Leah…"

"We both knew it would be a great opportunity to work with some of the industry’s loveliest and most talented suppliers. After having the pleasure of wearing a beautiful Oh My Honey dress for the Love My Dress soiree Leah got in touch with Louise to see if she would like to be involved and we were blown away by the beautiful creation she designed and made by hand from scratch just for the shoot. Pretty soon when we began to hear more about the amazing gown that Louise was creating it became all about one thing – the dress!

The stunning dress is made bespoke to order from Louise and is matte ivory duchess satin, with a petticoat made with layers of soft tulle in various shades of pinks and ivory. It has a sweetheart neckline and detachable silk and chiffon straps that tie into a billowy bow at the back and is simply beautiful. Louise’s bridal collection has now been launched and is exquisite; from our personal experience it is an absolute pleasure to wear and photograph!"

"As if the dress wasn’t perfection enough, it was the details that made the shoot even more special; the fantastic cupcakes from Alison of
Can Dee Cween Cupcakery were created to complement our beach and fairground theme and didn’t only look great – they tasted amazing! We were beyond excited for Flo and Percy to be involved too, with some truly incredible tiaras and hair accessories; they definitely completed the two different looks on the day. As a finishing touch to this quirky bridal shoot we were also given a super pretty and feminine bouquet from event stylist Eve Lily…"

"With summer drawing to a close and the promise of a last bout of glorious weather we kept our fingers crossed for a perfect day. After a long drive down to Brighton we arrived at Louise’s beautiful farmhouse in the dead of night and we were all so excited for a busy day ahead! We couldn’t believe our luck when we looked out across the fields at 6am the next morning to see the first rays of beautiful sun coming up, and as we approached the beach an hour later the light was just incredible!"

"We were shooting for about 7 hours; when we started at 7am we were the first on the beach; when we wrapped in the afternoon there were thousands! The day was full of random and fun events – most of all being granted permission to shoot in the infamous carousel before it opened, having photos taken of us taking photos by lots of onlookers whilst hearing the whisper of ‘Mummy, it’s a princess!’, wading out into the sea and getting soaked by the waves, doing hair and make-up sat in an underground car park and Leah almost getting a tattoo mid shoot – definitely a bridal shoot to remember!

We had such an amazing day, and it was fantastic to work with so many incredible suppliers. It also gave us the buzz to work on many more projects together; the wedding industry is full of community spirit and is something which should be embraced and celebrated!"
