A Chocolate Brown Petticoat for a Candy Anthony Wedding Dress and a Suffolk Barn Wedding…

Morning all ;)  Thanks for checking in to Love My Dress this morning.  Did you see this dreamy mother and child inspired set of images and bridal headpieces from Jannie Baltzer that I posted late yesterday afternoon?

I've a lovely little September wedding to share with you with an interesting colour scheme I don't often see on wedding days!

Greg and Caroline tied the knot on 16th September at Alpheton Hall Barns, Alpheton, Suffolk, and Caroline wore a fab 50's inspired full-circle sensation from Candy Anthony with a deep chocolate brown petticoat. I love her colour choice…

"I wanted something a bit different and loved the idea of a 50’s style dress with a petticoat and also we wanted a Vintage themed wedding and Candy Anthony fitted the bill perfectly.

I chose Oyster for the dress, sash and veil and Chocolate brown for the petticoat. I loved the fact that i had all the say in the colour scheme and the choice of colours and texture was vast. I also felt at ease with the girls in the shop as they were very honest and friendly in helping me make my decision…."

"I am a Visual Merchandiser, therefore attention to detail is a must.  Once I had decided the style of the dress, the whole theme took off from there. I visited Love My Dress a lot when planning my wedding and also bought many wedding magazines.

We provided our guests with homemade Wonka Bars as favours, and then when all the favours where opened on cue, one lucky guest had a 'golden ticket' and won a bottle of champagne, which was great fun and really set the tea arty off, with a fun and informal feel to keep everyone entertained.

For the children we filled gold wedding party boxes with puzzles, colouring pads, sweets and other goodies in, keeping the children entertained…"

"Greg’s Mum made the cake. She has made many cakes for family and friends as a hobby, but she is far better than that and we have told her many times that she should do it as a profession. We have kept the top tier of the cake and we are framing all the handmade roses from Mum’s cake in a deep fill frame to preserve them and enjoy…"

"I hired Jo Murrell as my makeup artist.  Jo spent the morning with me to ensure I looked my best, and we decided that a very natural and simple colour palette would suit me and the vintage theme. Jo also gave me eye lash extensions the week before, which I would highly recommend to all brides to be…"

"We chose our venue, Alpheton Hall Barns, because it has bags of character, just what we need for our Vintage Wedding.  Nicholas, the owner was very accommodating as we found this venue late one evening and went there that evening as we didn’t want to lose this venue to another wedding party as we were only 5 ½ months away from our date."

"We met while we both worked at Fenwick’s in Bond Street London and after plucking up the courage, Greg asked me out on a date and our first date was in Match Bar – Oxford Circus, Margret Street London…."

"So 12 years on, we have two children and just decided 2011 was going to be the year we tied the knot.  Greg proposed to me in the most romantic way (didn’t think he had it in him), I was shopping in London and I had a text message to look in my purse and find something behind my cards, it was a Match Stick with the words, Bar and 7pm written on it!!

I soon realised that I had to meet him where we went for our first date, Match bar, for Cocktails, and this is where he got down on one knee and presented me with a hand full of Haribo Sweets Rings, asking for my hand in marriage, which I said 'yes!'…"

"A week or two later I decided that it was an Antique ring I wanted and we found the perfect one.

We absolutely loved planning and styling this wedding and collecting all the props and making everything come together to make the day so special and perfect in every way…."

"Alison our florist {see credits} did a fantastic job in creating Hand tied bouquet, 2 x Pomanders, 6x Button holes, 2x Corsage and 1x Pageboy.

My hand tied bouquet was made from Brown Roses, Sweet peas, Fresias and Rosemary herb, you can see from the photos the detail but the scent you had to be there!

Our barn flowers were created by friends and family."

To go with their vintage theme, the couple used a number of sweet prop and decor ideas, including birdcages filled with flowers, candelabras with pearls, large martini glasses with ostrich feathres, vases filled iwth lace, an original vintage telephone, vintage style birds suspended from wooden beams and a tall wife bust with antique brooches attached.

"We chose our catering company Bouquet Garni, because we wanted to have an Afternoon tea Party and their web site explains everything you need to know about planning your day, out of all the websites we looked at this was by far the most informative.  They provided us with the most splendid sandwiches, scones, cakes and tea.  The evening Hog Roast was served up with all the trimmings and was devoured by all our guests (veggies excluded of cause!) The team at our wedding had everything under control and James(head waiter) always ask us if they need to change any timings as the day progressed and adjusted as need be.

As we wanted to have a vintage tea party we collected enough crockery for 130 guests which included, dinner plates, side plates, desert plates, tea cup and saucer, milk, cream jugs, sugar bowls, large serving platters, 15x 3 tier cake stands and 15x Tea pots!  This part of the Wedding had to be right and they conducted themselves impeccably."

"For our first dance, we danced to Cold Play's 'Yellow'.  This song has always been close to us both and it took us back to the first time we saw Cold Play at Vfestival2000 on the MTV stage with Chris Martin singing in Brown Cords and a Yellow t shirt! This was our first year together.

He covers corporate functions, weddings and any event, the secret is Playing to the crowd.  Tony played 1920’s, 30’s,40’s and 50’s music in the background while we had our vintage tea party, which set the mood off to a tee…"

Words of Wedded Wisdom….

"Enjoy all the planning as it will give you the best day of your lives.

Give yourselves plenty of time as we thought we had just over a year, but then Disaster Struck, as our original barn Venue (Wilbraham Hall Barns) burnt down and then we had to re plan the whole wedding in 6months!!   So this always gives us the future thoughts of Be Prepared for ANY eventuality!"

What a super lovely wedding! And how often do you see the colour brown incorporated so beautifully?

Huge thanks to Greg and Caroline for sharing details of their lovely day and to Norwich Wedding Photographer, Ross Harvey for sharing these images….

"We chose Ross after meeting him at another wedding, as he has a special knack of fitting in with everyone and making everybody feel at ease.

He is very personable with the love of photography running through his veins.  He blends in to the wedding! Many of our guests thought he was a close friend of ours, and this is how he manages to get such natural shots, not forgetting the groups and staged shots that we gave Ross direction for and then he added his magic.  Ross did the most amazing job, we are so happy with our photos, too many good ones to choose from.  We love the Vintage ones as they really give the feel of being in an antique photograph.  We have looked at our photos so many times and it just shows that you need to have that trust with your photographer and we certainly did with Ross.

Memories are one thing, but having all those memories on media is so very important and we knew that Ross would produce them and he did, brilliantly."

What about you, are you planning on using a simliar colour scheme, or wearing a Candy Anthony dress like Caroline did? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this lovely wedding day and how it might have inspired you.
