Desire, Decadence and Decay ~ An Inspiration Shoot for Brides And Grooms…

Afternoon everyone 🙂 Now, you know how much I adore beautiful inspiration shoots, but every now and then, one comes along that really excites me.  This wonderful shoot is the result of a team of Scottish creatives, and I'm going to hand over right away to Photographer Caroline Weiss of CandySnaps {who is rather brilliant you know – all Scottish brides take note} to tell us all about it.

Entitled 'Desire, Decadency and Decay', this shoot features some really beautiful tablescape, bridal fashion and styling ideas.

Enjoy…

"The shoot was a collaborative effort between myself, dress designer Rowan Joy, videographer Eileen O’Rouke Sugar 8* jewellery designer Alison Macleod and florist Diane Graham from Roots, Fruits and Flowers – all members of The Glasgow Wedding Collective.

The G.W.C. was set up by the lovely Gillian & Chris of Christopher Currie wedding photography and brings together the best and quirkiest wedding suppliers that Scotland has to offer, for Brides and Grooms who are looking for something a little bit different…"

"We made the conscious decision of getting as many of it’s members involved in the shoot as possible and really show off what the Scottish wedding industry has to offer.

The other suppliers were also all Scotland based and what we consider the crème de la crème of the wedding industry; William Chambers and Timorous Beasties…"

"Eileen came up with the title for our shoot after coming across an essay written about F. Scott Fitzgerald. The title very much dictated our moves from then on and I was keen to work with all three elements through the photography.

Inspired by the shoot title and Rowan's beautiful vintage inspired dresses we came up with the idea to get 3 real life couples as our models. I thought that that way we could really show off the genuine love and affection (desire) they have for one another. Something you don’t really get using models who don’t know one another.

The girls were dressed in three of Rowan Joy's dresses the 1920’s inspired Clara, the 1930’s Chloe and 1950’s Flora and the boys in matching suits and accessories provided by the Glasgow Vintage Company and Retro…"

The venue choice was Ardkinglas House, situated on the shores of Loch Fyne in Argyll, against a spectacular background of mountains and forest, Ardkinglas House is an architectural gem and definitely one of my favourite wedding venues in Scotland. It’s a truly magical place with so much charm, soul and character.

We decided that we want to bring the 3 couples together through staging a vintage tea party with beautiful cakes by Three Sisters Bake and Cup Couture and make it really decadent but fun at the same time."

Roots, Fruits and Flowers, who provided the gorgeous florals in this shoot, describe how they were inspired…

"I found Rowan Joy's dresses a huge inspiration for this shoot.  All of the dresses move beautifully and the 1920’s and 1930’s bride’s bouquets in particular were designed to compliment this and flow in tandem with the fabric.  The 1950’s bridal posy was very much inspired by Jackie Kennedy and sat perfectly with Rowan Joy’s mid length dress. I wanted the flowers to be true to each era with a touch of wildness and decadence and have used heavily scented roses throughout coupled with fresh Jasmine and Olive…"

"As a quirky alternative to flowers, I used Kale, Parsley & Dill for the table pieces along with some fruit, and a small scattering of flowers to create the country house tea party effect.

On the day of the shoot, we found a family scrapbook in Ardkinglas House of every wedding from the early 1900’s and it was great to see that the flowers and the dresses that were created for the shoot were exactly as they should have been…"
