What Katy Did Next ~ Alice in Wonderland Inspired Headpieces…

Hi Everyone, and condolences to those of you who have had to return to work today, though I know many of you will still be off due to school holidays and the such.

I recently featured a gorgeous little mini-shoot that was submitted by accessories designer Katy Howieson of What Katy Did Next.  It was the first of two styled photoshoots that Katy has sent in, and this morning I'm featuring the second.

Now, the 'Alice in Wonderland' theme was one that has been rather 'done' in the past couple of years, but this photoshoot stood out from the rest somehow. I just loved the sense of this particular creative team coming together to make this happen, I know a bit about most of the contributors and already admire their work on an individual leave.  I also like the sense of cheekiness this photoshoot evokes, it's all a little bit glamour meets flirty and fun. And that's jolly good with me for first thing on a Monday morning!

This photoshoot was coneived primarily to showcase the 'Wonderland' headpiece creations by What Katy Did Next {a seven piece collection ranging in price from £45 to £120}, and also includes the adorable fabric table decor and reception stationery by Vicky Trainor and pretty fluffy tulle petticoats by Doris Designs, not to mention the sweet treats crafted by Daisy Cupcakes and served on the pretty platters provided by The Whistling Bunting Travelling Tea Party

Katy shared a little with me about the shoot itself…

"After itching to get creative with styling another photo shoot, one of my Real Brides from the Summer got in touch to tell me about her Vintage China & Prop Hire venture, The Whistling Bunting Travelling Tea Party. My Fiance and i designed and built Lynsey's website for her and thought it only right to celebrate with a photo shoot. It may sound cliche but with the Vintage china and tea party vibe, it felt only right to have a go at the Alice in Wonderland theme. Our idea was to keep it timeless, pastel and Vintage themed without sinking in to the overdone slightly cheesy style.

With the theme in mind i was able to work on something a little more extravagant and flouncey in my collection. I had had a few Mother of the Bride's approach me at wedding fairs enquiring about fascinators, so i used this opportunity to showcase some of my ideas. I wanted the collection to be primarily influenced by a demure, Victorian style 'Alice' whilst reflecting the fun of the book with a little twist…"

"Photographer Sally Thurrell was only too happy to help, she had previously shot one of my collections and also photographed Lynsey's Wedding. Hair and Make up was done by Tracey from BBeautiful Bride Makeovers and she was an absolute dream to work with, full of inspiration and knew exactly what was going on in my head without me having to attempt to explain! After getting a few other amazing suppliers involved i managed to find a little gem of a venue in Riding Farm Cottages. The cottages were in a little cluster not too far from Beamish and surrounded by peaceful countryside. The early January weather was slightly windy and wild for our shoot so we made the most of the beautiful country style that the cottages had.

The Shoot was amazing fun, despite the Wintery weather and the fact that Me and the Photographer's car broke down, conked out and died on the way there! It was great to work with so many talented suppliers from up and down the UK, including our two gorgeous models Nathalie and Katie. I would thoroughly recommend each and every one of them…"
