Shades of Antique Gold and Cherry Blossom Pink for a Sophisticated and Elegant Wedding at Eltham Palace…

Just when you thought today couldn't get any prettier, I went and featured a Polly Alexandre wedding. Because frankly, it's to beautiful to be sitting in my 'ones to blog' folder for any longer.

This is such a timelessly elegant wedding, no doubt couple Priya & Bayju will be just as wowed by these images in fifty years time as they are today.

Priya and Bayju's wedding took place on 5 March 2010, at the stunning 1930s art deco Eltham Palace, and they chose to work with London wedding and event stylist Zoe Lingard.  Priya's dress was a bespoke design by Jenny Lessin {who has previously featured on Love My Dress here}…

"Jenny Lessin designed and handmade the dress. Jenny did a fabulous job in a really short time scale – just over two months from the first consultation until the dress was finished.

Although I’m from Indian heritage, I decided to wear a dress rather than a traditional Indian outfit. I felt it was more fitting for the wedding we had and the day after the wedding I had the opportunity to wear a sari at a reception held by the family of my husband to be. However, I hadn’t envisaged a traditional white wedding dress either, so Zoe Lingard  introduced me to Jenny Lessin to help me make this dress happen!"

"I had an initial consultation and I took along pages torn from magazines showing silhouettes, styles and fabrics that I liked.  Jenny immediately understood what would work for me. She sent me several drawings of designs (some of the most enjoyable post I have ever received), I picked my favourite and she set to making the toile from there.

The design evolved through the dress making process. The French lace irises were a later addition with their own story. Jenny used some silver thread and a few subtle embellishments to embroider these, a gentle nod to the work on a traditional sari.  Images of daetails of the dress are on Jenny's website here.

I absolutely loved working with Jenny, she is a tour de force, with a strong background in textiles, design and dress making…."

"I wore a pair of long diamond earrings with a pearl drop. I couldn’t quite find the right earrings and then coincidentally, without seeing the dress or knowing I was looking, my mother and father in law gave me these as an amazing gift. That was the only jewellery I wore…"

"We chose Eltham Palace as the venue as it was close to where Priya grew up, we enjoyed the history of the place and it has incredible architecture (both art deco and Tudor).

We hired the incredible Zoe Lingard help us to not only plan the whole event. Having her on board meant we didn’t have to think about anything on the day itself other than enjoying it! Zoe gave us excellent advice on suppliers, design and how to manage the day.

The Art Deco style of the venue provided some inspiration and Zoe Lingard provided the rest!

"We had a civil ceremony and incorporated a tradition from Bayju’s cultural heritage called the chunni ceremony. This is where Bayju’s mum presented me with a colourful red sari. It symbolises being welcomed to the family. His mum is a legend and I was so thrilled to be welcomed in to their family with so much love..."

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Everyone is so different, I think my only suggestion would be to remember on the day to take at least a moment with your new husband to take it all in.

Sophisticated, and yet unfussily simple and elegant.   Thank you so much Priya for sharing so much to inspire my readers.  I'm also grateful to photographer Polly Alexandre for so kindly sharing her beautiful photography

"Polly Alexandre was incredible. She displayed the utmost professionalism, style, good taste and understanding. On the actual day she was an integral part of the smooth running of things and was at ease with the many people."

What do you think my lovely lot? I'd love your comment as usual…
