Red Shoes, Bows and Lace For A 1950s Inspired Bride

Morning everyone  – those couples in and around the London area looking for a cake designer should pop by this early morning blog post and 10% off offer before they read any further, but them make sure you come back right on here, to enjoy Jaime and Steve’s lovely relaxed wedding.

Jaime and Steve tied the knot on Friday 20th April 2012 at Nutfield Priory in Redhill and Jaime wore a delightful 1950’s inspired wedding dress, a creation by Love My Dress favourite, Joanna Fleming.

“I loved the fact that Joanna and I designed this dress together. I had this design in my head from day 1 and tried to find ‘off the rail’ designs that matched without much success. Then I discovered that I could have my dream dress which wouldn’t break the bank. I loved dealing with Joanna….”

“I chose these flowers with the help of Tania from Flowers77. I wanted white with minimal black so Tania suggested ornithogalum chin chin which I thought was perfect. I originally wanted anemones but they were slightly out of season…”

Jaime wore the Louisiana Back Bow Velvet Court, via Very, but was sensible too and made sure she brought some Converse along. Clever girl…

“I am a graphic designer so the pressure was on. I designed the table plans, dessert table image and guest cards – and this saved a lot of money. I love typography so my wedding invites ended up determining the colour theme. In regards to décor the venue created most of that but the theme we chose was the year we started dating, which was 1996. I purchased number one record’s from that year and they became the table plan, then I used their lyrics for the confetti. I also designed the dessert artwork that stood behind our dessert table. I also hung cards that we had given each other in the past on the back of the ceremony room chairs. This added a personal touch and also gave our guests something to read whilst I made my late entrance!”

“We also announced during the speeches that we are expecting our first child which was perfect as all our loved ones were in that room. This made our wedding day the best day of our lives!”

“I gave cards to each of my bridesmaids asking them to be my brodesmaids, the morning of the wedding. I purchased these cards from Flapperdoodle on Etsy.  I also gave them each a personalised bangle which I purchased from Cabbage White…”

“I didn’t tell my bridesmaids they were my bridesmaids until the morning of the wedding, so they dressed themselves!”

“The reason we chose our venue, Nutfield Priory in Redhill, was because of it’s grandeur, opulence and it’s views overlooking the Surrey Downs, where we both grew up.

My Father gave me away, and given that my now husband took 16 years to get married I decided to walk down the aisle to ‘At Last’ by Etta James…”

“After our tasting with Andrea from Cake By Sugar we knew we had to make the most of her and go for a dessert table. Andrea is one talented lady and went out of her way to make it look and taste perfect. The theme was white but we wanted the main cake to be red velvet to have that wow factor when it was cut.
The cake toppers were by Pegged, on Etsy…”

“We danced to ‘Unforgettable’ by Nat King Cole. This is a song Steve and I hold very dear. It reminds both of us of my late grandfather who we were particularly close to and we actually chose our wedding day as this would have been his 90th birthday….”

Words of Wedded Wisdom

“Shop around! I had twenty months to plan and started straight away so that some of the things I purchased I actually got for 2010 prices rather than 2012! Also you get the pick of all the suppliers before they get booked up. All the good ones do.

My other tip would be don’t be generic. If I saw lots of other brides wearing/doing something in magazines it would put my off doing the same. Make your wedding day personal to you and your husband. Oh and do things that make you both smile, these smiles will stay with you forever!”

Well first of all, congratulations Jaime and Steve! You have the time of your lives ahead of you in finding out you are to become parents, I am so genuinely excited for you 🙂 Thank you too for sharing your beautiful wedding day with us all.

Thanks too as always to the fab photographer, Shell de Mar

“Shella is so talented, she adds sun to every photograph and she sees things that other photographers would miss. I wanted photos that reflected how people ‘felt’ on the day not what they look like. I wanted my photographs to make me smile and relive the day and this is exactly why I booked Shella.”

If you love Jaime and Steve’s wedding as much as I do, let’s show them some love in the comments box below.

You can see a tonne more 1950’s inspired content here.  Have a beautiful morning everyone 🙂
