A Vintage Floral Headpiece, A Divine Lace Dress and a Giant Tunnocks Wedding Cake!

It's such a pleasure to be sharing this wedding with you this afternoon, for it not only features the love and joy present on Siobhan and  Matty's wedding day of 7th April, it also showcases the work of the fabulous Scottish wedding photographer Caroline Weiss of Candysnaps, and one of my favourite independent wedding dress designers, Sally Lacock.

Siobhan and Matty's wedding took place at Edinburgh Registry office, followed by a reception at Howies restaurant and Siobhan discovered Sally Lacock through this very wedding blog, so it seems extra special somehow that I'm featuring her wedding today…

"I loved the vintage style of my ‘Violet’ dress. The gorgeous French lace, and beautiful details – the tiny vintage buttons down the back – and the lovely sash with lace flowers.

Sally’s attention to detail is very special. I also felt beautiful and comfortable in the dress…"

Sally Lacock vintage inspired lace wedding dress...

"My floral head-dress was a purchase from Emma Hill of Vintage London via the Hammersmith vintage wedding fair – also available through the Sally Lacock studio.

I loved wearing my head-dress and got so many complements on it! Emma makes them from vintage materials, including waxed flowers and other trinkets…"

"We loved the registrars building – it’s beautiful inside, and close to where we first met.

We hired Narcissus, Edinburgh to provide our flowers, they were brilliant, and came recommended to us by several friends. I didn’t want too much colour in my bouquet – so went with whites and lots of green foliage. The palette was inspired by my head-dress…

"As soon as I walked into Sally's studio, I knew that I was going to find my perfect dress! The service I received was so much nicer and more personal than any of the larger bridal shops I visited – and for me it was amazing that I was dealing directly with the designer.

My veil was also purchased from Sally Lacock. I loved wearing the veil – at first I was pretty sure I wouldn’t wear a veil, but when I tried it on I just loved it.  I’m so glad I got this!"

"The vintage style of my beautiful Sally Lacock wedding dress sparked the style for many elements of the day. Also both our venues were historic buildings – Howies is a 19th century building and had great features such as a domed ceiling and lot’s of original fireplaces. We were lucky to have Edinburgh as a back-drop…."

"Our Tunnocks wedding cake was by 'Cakes by Lyndsey'.  Lyndsey is a very talented friend of ours, so we new her cakes were legendary!

I had started doing some research online – looking at quite traditional style cakes. We were brainstorming ideas over a cup of tea, and that’s when we decided to go for a giant Tunnocks tea cake!! It’s a nostalgic treat which reminded us both of home as well!! We were stunned by the results – Lyndsey did such a fantastic job!! Not to mention the cake was DELICIOUS!!!"

"We are both creative, and really enjoyed making these bit’s and pieces. We were really pleased that we were able to add a few personal touches to the day.  On the tables, we made some ‘number flag’s’ also from scraps of paper left over from our wedding invites, and again using the fabric numbers from the table plan…"

"It was easter weekend, so in the end we decided to use Lindt bunny’s as wedding favours…"

"I found shoes one of the hardest things to buy. I didn’t want a huge heal, and most bridal shoes seem to come in 8cm plus heals. I also wanted something simple (with out any embellishment).

I would have loved to find some vintage shoes, but unfortunately I didn’t have time to source any. In the end I opted for the Rachel Simpson shoes as these were the most simple I could find…"

"My hair and make-up Artist was Nicola O’Neil from The Make up and Beauty Studio, Edinburgh (she did both hair and make up, plus the hair for both bridesmaids).I was really keen to keep my look natural, so my make up was kept light – I was really happy with the results. I also had false lashes applied, which felt a little un-natural at first, but they look amazing in the photos.

Nicola was very professional and fun to have around on the morning of my wedding…"

"My bridesmaids dresses were purchased from Fenn Wright Manson, via John Lewis. I was so happy we found these dresses – the colour and shape looked gorgeous on both of my bridesmaids!

The girls had fresh flowers pinned into the hair…"

"We met whilst working in Edinburgh castle bookshop, shortly before I was moving to London. We kept in touch – and a few years later we realised that something special was happening. Matty moved to London, we lived together from then on. 9 years later, just after Christmas, he proposed at Edinburgh Castle – in front of the very bookshop we met at ☺ it was very romantic and snowy!"

"We made some paper garland decorations – using a paper punch from Martha Stewart.  It was a great way of using up the paper scraps we had left over from making our wedding invitations. We also used paper from an old vintage book – donated by my Dad.

Once we punched the paper, it was easy to sew the garlands together – which were hung from the beautiful fireplaces in Howie’s.

We also made our table plan – we cut numbers from fabrics which I picked out from my collection- Some Liberty print fabric which a friend had gave me – and also some denim chambray – to keep the balance and not have everything look to flowery – We then pinned these to a vintage map placed on an easel.

We chose Howie’s for our reception as we new the food was good – as it’s a restaurant they are used to catering for large groups. It was also the perfect size for our party. We loved the space, and felt it was perfect!"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"I would say make sure you keep the day exactly how you both want it to be, and just enjoy the day! We new that we wanted to keep the day as relaxed as possible, so we could both enjoy it! It was important to us that we would be able to talk to our guests and we felt our numbers were just right for us to feel comfortable. It really does pass too quickly, so make sure that you get all the photo’s you want to remember it. Our photographer was fantastic in capturing some of the moments we missed…"
