What led you to becoming a cake designer?
My first Wedding Cake was designed for my sister, who had been a willing participant in my cake tasting sessions throughout our childhood and, so to her I was the obvious choice to make her wedding cake .. I wasn’t so sure, it’s a huge responsibility and although I had made numerous birthday cakes for family and friends, a wedding cake was quite a daunting prospect…
….so, we had the brief wedding cake chat, and I thought she had made arrangements elsewhere, until I was told to keep the following Thursday evening free .. for a night out, I thought, but no, to attend a three month course in cake decorating,
I loved every second of it and after the first few lessons I knew this was what I wanted to do. My sisters’ wedding cake changed my life, that was 20 years ago and although I knew this was where my passion lie, it took me some time to create Daisy Chain Cake Company which was the best decision I ever made.
With years of experience and an eye for detail I am now asked to design and create some beautiful edible works of art, which grace the most glamorous events and not only make an amazing centrepiece but taste delightful too…
How would you describe your signature style?
My couture elegant cakes are loved by the ‘Vintage’ inspired bride with timeless style, elegance and sophistication in mind, I am often asked by many brides to create a design for specific era weddings from the ‘The Great Gatsby’ of the 1920’s and ‘Mary Quant’ daisy days of the 1960’s to up to date contemporary chic, all with that touch of flair every bride loves…
Can you provide a price guide?
Expect to pay from £500 for a simple elegant three tier cake, but bespoke cakes are quoted according to the requests of the bride and groom and the intricacy of the design…
Are you noticing any trends in cake design?
Current trends include lace, both applique and draped sugar lace, small but eye catching sugar blossoms, and accent colour to match the trend in ‘statement’ colour bridal shoes…
Our marble cakes are proving very popular – the delicious combination of rich dark chocolate and either dreamy white chocolate or zesty orange sponge looks amazing when served, showing off the marbling effect…
Also individual wedding cakes as a centre piece for each table at a more intimate wedding celebration serving the guests on each table with their own cake cut by the bride and groom as they make their way around the reception…
