An Original 1950s Vintage Tiered Lace and Tulle Wedding Dress…

When you think 50's bridal fashion, you'll more often than not conjure up an image of short, full circle skirt dress that twirls beautifully, but the during the 50's, the tiered lace and tulle dress also became popular with brides.

This is Lucy and Rob, who tied the knot on 17th March 2012 at Gaynes Park, Epping, Essex. Lucy wore a fabulous original 50's tiered lace and tulle wedding dress – a bit of a marvellous find from Elizabeth Avey..

"My dress was a 1950’s original from Elizabeth Avey’s vintage dress shop.  I had seen a few different 1950’s style dresses but being vintage and one off pieces not all of them were a great fit – when I tried on my dress it was a perfect fit and was just the look that I had imagined…"

"Rob wore a slim fit light grey suit from Ted Baker.  He had Frank Wright shoes and the ties and pocket squares were custom made so that they tied in with the colour scheme…"

"My main aim was to have a day that was relaxed and enjoyable for everyone – all of the styling happened quite organically. The vintage glass jugs and the dress were the starting point for the way that everything looked in the end, there was some vintage elements but we weren’t going for a completely 'vintage inspired wedding'…"

"My shoes were a high street purchase – they had the right sort of vintage styling that I was looking for and were the perfect height for my dress…"

"The bridesmaids dresses were from French Connection – these were actually the very first thing that we bought for the wedding – we got them about 2 weeks after we got engaged – my mum and I were shopping in Cambridge and we came across the two dresses – they seemed too perfect not to buy so even though we hadn’t even booked the venue we got them! – Luckily they were perfect!"

 

"My bracelet was a links of London which I got given by Rob on the morning of the wedding…"

"The flower-girl dresses were from Monsoon along with the boleros – they seemed a perfect fit with the older girls dresses.

All of the girls had fabric flower clips which we managed to find in the perfect colours to match the dresses…" 

"I had my veil made by Butterfly Vintage Brides – I found the centre piece which was reworked into a birdcage style headdress – This type of veil was one thing that I had been sure that I wanted from the start so I was so pleased with it when it was all finished.

My pearl necklace and earrings were a gift from my mum, they were given to her by her mum so it was a nice ‘something old’ addition to my outfit…"

 

"My dad gave me away.  We walked down the garden aisle to higher love by James Vincent McMorrow…"

"We came across the website for Gaynes Park and thought it looked too good to be true, checked out a couple of other venues but as soon as we visited Gaynes Park we decided it was definitely where we wanted to get married.

We made all of the name cards and table names our self – they followed on from the design of the invitations which we made ourselves.  The jugs that the flowers were displayed in were collected by my parents – they spent time visiting car boot sales and charity shops to find vintage glass jugs and dishes. The dishes were filled with sweets for the tables…"

"The cake was made by my Aunt – I found an idea that I liked and she created it for me – I made the toppers with wooden pegs – some might say representative of Rob and me!"  

"We had our first dance to ‘only you’ by Joshua Radin – we always liked the original but this version was lovely, just right for our first dance…"
