How did you get into wedding photography?

'I studied journalism at university many years ago and specialised in photojournalism in my second and third years. This was back in the day of film photography and dark rooms. I always dreamed of converting the cupboard under the stairs into a darkroom at home but it never quite materialised!

It was after doing a digital photography and editing course at my local school of art that I really got interested in wedding photography and it just grew from there…'

What do you love about photographing weddings?

'I love the emotion of the day more than anything. It never fails to move me when a couple get emotional saying their vows or reading their speeches. I do have to fight back the tears sometimes as it's pretty hard to focus the camera when your eyes well up! When you see two people clearly in love and having the best day of their lives it really is an honour to be part of it all. Sounds like a cliche but it's true.'

What inspires you when it comes to your work?

'All kinds of people inspire me, not just other photographers. I'm inspired by anyone who has started a business from scratch in whatever field they've chosen to pursue. I'm inspired by hard work and determination, as much as I am by talent. And having recently had a baby I'm also inspired by those people who have the work/life balance just right. It's certainly something I aspire to.'

How would you describe your signature style?

'I think my style is something that is still being developed and is constantly changing. My clients have described my images as romantic, natural and spontaneous which is always nice to hear. There are lots of cutting edge, funky photographers out there but I'd say my style is more classic than crazy. Hopefully my clients agree!'

Can you provide a price guide?

'A full days coverage is £1250 and half day is £800'

If you weren't a wedding photographer, what would you be?

'A primary school teacher. I've toyed with the idea for many years now so maybe one day I'll get around to retraining. Either that or a florist. I love the idea of spending my days creating beautiful bouquets for people.'
