I've got some incredibly beautiful frocks to share with you today, courtesy of Love My Dress sponsor Joyce Young.

I've been waiting very patiently to share these dresses with you ever since they first appeared in my inbox a few weeks ago. I've managed to develop a couple of firm favourites while gazing at them longingly in preparation for this post!

Joyce Young is a well established business at the top end of the bridal market in Scotland since 1993, and London since 1999. They design and make wedding dresses, mother of the bride outfits, bridesmaid dresses, and also a range of accessories. They currently hold the VOWS Industry Award for Best Scottish Wedding Supplier, which they have won before, along with many awards for design and service. The business employs 20 exceptionally gifted people in London and Glasgow, and together they use top quality fabrics to create a distinctive, sophisticated look for brides and Mums, based on flattering, elegant lines and finished to a very high standard.

Joyce herself told me a little more about her business and the creative process behind her stunning designs…

How did you become a designer?

'I graduated from Glasgow School of Art in the early seventies. As a child I designed and made my dolls clothes, followed by my own clothes, and now I live out my dream every day designing for real life “dolls”! After Art College, I designed for M&S before setting up in business with another designer. We ran that for 7 years before both having families when we took a short break. I returned to high street designing before setting up By Storm in 1993. For nearly 20 years I have been dedicated to creating beautiful brides and mothers!'

'We have shops in Bearsden in Glasgow and the West End of London. Our studio/factory is in North Glasgow. Our brides and mothers of the bride travel from all over the UK, with many even coming in from Europe and further afield. We have shipped our made to measure designs to Australia, South Africa and the U.S.'

What do you love about your work?

'Everything! I am inspired by wonderful fabrics which I surround myself with in my studio and the designs flow from looking at the sumptuous silks and laces, so when I start sketching the ideas come quickly. I love meeting brides and mothers and being part of their fantastic journey to the wedding day.'

'My team are equally as enthusiastic and dedicated. It’s such a happy time in a girl’s life and we love being part of that. When the bride collects her dress it is an emotional and rewarding moment and it’s always fantastic to receive her photos after the wedding.'

What inspires you when it comes to your work?

'My inspiration mainly comes from looking through lots of fabric collections. I see a fabric and instantly a design forms in my head. I love the 30’s and 50’s glamour and adore the timeless elegance of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.'

You're a woman after my own heart Joyce. I never tire of Audrey and Grace 🙂

Are there any designers/artists you particularly admire?

'I’ve always been a fan of Armani and I admire David Hockney since he came to talk to us at GSA in the seventies!'

How would you describe your signature style?

'Simple elegance that transcends time. My designs have uncluttered lines and the fabric and colour combinations are what make them different. Classic elegance with a twist.'

What is a Joyce Young bride like?

'Generally our brides are confident, professional young women, who know their own minds, and posess an appreciation of style and quality. Our brides like to look youthful, demure and sensual, but never outrageous or shocking!'
