This latest wedding was sent in by photographer Joanne Spencer and it shows what a beautiful day bride and groom Laura and Adam had on their wedding day on 2nd June this year. The couple chose Scarisbrick Hall
in Ormskirk as their venue, because of its amazing gothic architecture and picturesque surrounding countryside. The scene created an amazing backdrop for the Cariad Canvas teepees that the couple hired to hold the reception in.
"The style we were going for was a kind of 1920's summer party mixed in
with a bit of children’s book fantasy.
We wanted it to be relaxed but
special, child friendly, to keep the traditions that made the day more
fun but lose all of the formalities that made the day feel a bit staged.
I think the Cariad Canvas teepee was great for that, the BBQ and giant games got
people out of their seats as well."

Laura chose a fittingly suitable frock by Jenny Packham…
the right dress was such a trial! I tried so many on and being very
petite they totally overwhelmed me. Just when I was giving up hope
stumbled upon Jenny Packham dresses online one night and I was so
relieved. I felt so amazing when I tried Eden on – the detail and shape
are gorgeous but it also felt quite simple. It also felt really
comfortable to wear – dancefloor friendly!"
"Our lovely next door neighbour, Eileen, did all of the flowers for
the day – she is a wonder woman, getting up at 6am to get to the flower
market and climbing up ladders to fix flowers to the tepee.
We went for
good old peachy roses, blue agapanthus to spice it up a bit, some daisy
type flowers to make it look a bit wild and white freesia to make it
smell nice. We used some material from my dress to tie the bouquet
together which looked nice."
"I hired a camper called Dusty from Chase the Sun for the weekend
which my mum and bridesmaids arrived in and my brother drove me in my
dad’s original mini which was one of the last to be made… its his pride
and joy so we were glad it got to be a part of the day!"
"Our photographer, Joanne Spencer
was fantastic. My main aim was to have lovely people only doing things
at the wedding and Jo was so friendly and was just a great person to
have there on the day. She did an amazing job of the photos – she
managed to capture so many great moments."
"My shoes from Rainbow Club
were a clean, simple design, featuring a satin bow. I initially had a
pair with a kind of broach on them but they caught on my dress when I
tried it on which was a bit of a panic."
"My dad gave me away – he is amazing and really put a lot into
making it such a special day. Our family friend Ros played us her own
version of Sweet Child of Mine by Guns and Roses on the piano going in,
and on the way out You’re my Best Friend by Queen!"
"Our venue, Scarisbrick Hall
in Ormskirk, has a nice story – it’s
a school and part of the building was designed by Pugin who also did
the houses of parliament! We also decided to have a Teepee for the BBQ
which was supplied by Cariad Canvas in Pembrokeshire. They have an
awesome collection of tents!"
"My mum made jams for the favours – blackcurrant, marmalade and
rhubarb and ginger. She spent hours putting together the jars, cutting
out material for the top and making labels. We got personalised ‘spread
the love’ labels from Etsy (a very handy site for all your stationary
needs at a cheap price!). For the kids she made canvas bags with a
drawing of each of the children on them – inside were toys and colouring
books to keep them entertained."
"We used a bit of bunting and paper poms for the tepee and
flowers going up the poles. The hall didn’t need any decoration it had
so much going on already. We used nice water jugs and flowers to
brighten both up. I gave the jugs of flowers away to guests at the end
of the night which made them very happy!"
"The entertainment was the highlight of the day for me. We are so
lucky to have Nick, the best man, and his brother Chris as our friends.
They are in a band called KTO who did the evening music which rocked!
Chris also played the guitar when we were signing the register which was
I also got the Savoy Jazz Band from
Liverpool who played old classics throughout the day. They were one of
the best decisions we made – their music made a cloudy day seem sunny!"
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
"I had totally
underestimated what a life changing experience getting married would be.
We have been together for ten years so I thought what difference could
it make?! But bringing all of our families and friends together for such a
happy occasion had such a positive affect on all of our relationships.
advice is to involve people as much as you can, make people feel like
they are a big part of the day and think about how you want to say thank
It feels strange when everything is over. We dashed off
on our honeymoon and wished we had been able to see everyone afterwards
to reminisce about the day. I did get to take my bouquet to my grandma
and have a cuppa with her the day after and my mum did us a gorgeous
If things are stressing you out with the
planning or money – just remember it will all fall into place
regardless. And it will be worth all the time and every penny for the
lifelong memories you’ll create."
Jenny Packham = winner in my books. What's not to love? I adore Laura's laid back style too. Congratulations to you both Laura and Adam – huge thanks for sharing your images today also.
