An Intimate and Elegant Italian Wedding…

Good morning all, what a day yeterday was! So many emails, tweets, facebook messages, I am still completely pinching myself over it all 😉

There is something so charming, dreamy and wonderfully romantic about the quality of film photography – all that soft natural light.  Most wedding photographers these days shoot in digital, but my heart will always follow those few that shoot in film. Photographer Ed Osborn is one of them. Ed took these wedding photographs of Emanuela and Edoardo's elegant Italy wedding at Castello della Marigolda earlier this year, and I think they simply ooze that kind of fuss-free, effortless elegance the Italians do best.

"We chose the old castle at Castello della Marigolda to get married in, because we wanted a historical building, with a garden and a lot of open space, and also because we both love the culture and history of the Middle Ages – I walked down the aisle to the sound of old traditional Irish/Scottish/medieval music for instance…"

"I wanted a simple white dress (no lace, embroidery or beading)
and modern cut.  I considered getting a vintage dress, maybe 50‘s style.
But then I tried my
Acquachiara dress
on: it was so romantic and the champagne colour (the exact opposite of
what I initially had in mind!) was perfect – It just blew me away!"

"Our wedding was not your typical Italian wedding that takes
place in a church with hundreds of guests and lots of noise. We chose a
relatively “small” environment where only invited guests were allowed so
nobody could see us from outside. We wanted our guests to think they
were home. We wanted a friendly environment."

"Given that I wasn’t wearing a white dres, it was quite hard to choose
flowers which would complement it: in the end I opted for a bouquet of
cream lisianthus, orange mini calla lilies and pink hypericum berries."

"We made an untraditional choice regarding our wedding ceremony.
In Italy if you don’t get married in a church, you can only get married
in a town hall, and sometimes the rooms used for civil ceremonies are
really drab and uninspiring.

So on the morning of the wedding we just
went to the registry office and together with our witnesses, we signed
the paperwork.
In the afternoon, we asked two of our
best friends to recite some personalised readings and music, and
together we repeated the ceremony in front of our family and friends."

"I initially didn’t want  to wear a veil. But during one of the
dress fittings, this shawl got caught in my hair and as it was exactly
the same colour as the dress, I decided it would be my veil!"
