A Relaxed and Rustic ‘Vintage Travel’ Insipired Barn Wedding

Afternoon folks, time for a lovely real wedding to inspire you.

Benjamin and Saskia tied the knot on 27 October 2012 at Alpheton Hall Barns, Suffolk and these photographers were submitted by photographers ' Creative Wedding Duo'.  I loved this wedding simply for all the quaint little touches and the relaxed, rustic charm and appeal.

"Our
wedding venue, Alpheton Hall Barns in Suffolk is a Beautiful barn set
in the rolling countryside. We fell in love as soon as we saw it and
especially loved the fact it was situated right next door to a very
small pretty church! Which has no electricity so all candles and oil
burners!

We both like to travel around and I'd always been a fan of
everything vintage, I'm always on the lookout or distressed furniture,
lace fabrics and photographs. So we decided on the theme 'vintage
travel'.  We wanted the day to be very personal, although Ben is
military we decided to keep that to a minimum and have a less formal
day…"

"Most props in the barn are actual things from our house, we tried
to have a bit of 'us' in every part of it – although we also
spent many Saturdays looking at old antique shops,
markets and vintage stalls to source other props, like picnic blankets with
cushions to reflect our love of picnics together!

We had a photo gallery
with our pictures of us growing up to when we met and things we did
together in vintage style photographs.  I trawled antique
shops and flea markets to pick up old vintage cases, I had friends and
family collect jam jars so in the end Ben and I had over 100 jars to
decorate with ribbons and lace.

Items I was unable to source, we hired from a company called Rose and Ribbons, who have an amazing selection of everything you could possible think of!"

"I made and designed and made all the stationery, which included
invitations, menus, orders of service, table plan and place names.

All
materials were bought from eBay which included brown card, vintage maps,
air mail envelopes, the best buy was a vintage typewriter again from
eBay which I managed to write everything out with then used as a prop on
the day…

"The bridesmaid dresses were a thick lace short dress in a pinky, coffee, champagne colour from Warehouse.  They also wore a single thin head band in which their hair was rolled into. Simple yet beautiful!

Ben wore his RAF uniform to get married in and then changed into a grey tailored suit bought from Trotter & Dean.  He also wore a pair of cuff links, made with our nicknames 'Beej' and 'Cheese' from PoshTotty on NotOnTheHighStreet.com."

"We used miniature pots of jam as
favours and used old sand bags to cover the tops and write mini luggage
tags with everyone's names on. The pots of jam were bought from
Morrisons Supermarket!"

"I wore ballet shoes, I'm not a heels person so there would have
been no way I could have worn heels! I had the ribbon tied up my leg and
they were extremely comfortable! Knowing what the weather would be like
I bought matching green hunter Wellington boots for Ben and I! They
definitely came in handy!"

"We had a cheese cake which was made up of differs layers of
cheese's, our caterer managed to provide this for us, again we gave them
the idea of what we wanted and didn't see it until the day! Our cake
toppers were made by Ben, a blank wooden Russian doll which he drew and
penned the design he'd made for our RSVPs!

"The florist we used was Lillies in Cleethorpes, North East
Lincolnshire (they don't have a web address) I sent all different photos
with ideas I'd seen and linked and let Steph work her magic, I didn't
even see them until the night before the wedding!"

"The bracelet I wore was a gift on the day from Ben, it was a silver bangle which he had made by Daniella Draper, it reads 'separation is unavoidable love is unstoppable'"

"We used Creative Wedding Duo
to take our photographs – they were absolutely fantastic, even from the
first meeting Adam was able to understand exactly what I was saying and
what results I was hoping for. I am quite difficult when it comes to
photographs and would have liked if possible to photograph my own day,
however Adam and Bink did a better job than I ever could.

They certainly
went that extra mile and captured the day perfectly. I was so impressed
with the photographs and how Adam and Bink had seen the things in the
way I wanted them to be seen."

"I wore a veil purchased at the same shop I got my dress – it was ivory with a thin
trim around the bottom, medium length and I loved it, I didn't take it
off all day."

"Walking down the aisle to Ben and getting married was my favourite part of the whole day – words can't
describe how I felt, it was the happiest moment of my life!! I loved
every second, another favourite part was when Ben took me outside,
poured me a glass of champagne and looked up and fireworks began to go
off, I didn't know anything about this, it was an amazing surprise as
fireworks are my favourite and I thought we couldn't have any!

We used traditional vows, we wanted to keep the religious aspect of the wedding very traditional.  We
had two readings, the first was Romans 12.2,9 – 13 and the second was a
reading my sister did, a poem I'd written for Ben in the early stages
of our relationship, Separation is Unavoidable; Love is Unstoppable.

"I purchased my dress from a small shop called 'Your Big Day' in the
seaside town of Cleethorpes. They were absolutely brilliant and I had
many alterations to make the dress personal to me.

I
love lace and this dress stood out because it was all lace, it was very
thick and heavy which was just what I wanted considering I was getting
married in October! The colour was perfect, it wasn't white or ivory as
such it was a very very warm ivory, simply perfect."

"Ben and I were introduced by a friend in 2008 when Ben first
joined the Air Force. We became engaged in February 2012, we had a three
part proposal, starting at Aira Force in the Lake District when the
moment hit us and I knew Ben was going to propose (we have this strong
telepathic ability!!) then in our little cottage where Ben got down on
one knee and said would I do the honour of being his wife.. After crying
for 10 minutes and forgetting I needed to answer I said yes! Then
punting in Cambridge where Ben produced a ring and I said no (I was
trying to be funny, it didn't go down well! Haha.)"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"It's unbelievable how quickly your day
goes. Take a moment to take step back with your new husband and look at
everything you have achieved, enjoy a few moments together because
believe me, it'll fly by and before you know it, sadly it's all over!"

There are so many wedding blogs promoting alternative, crazy, unusual ideas, always striving for something different, but you know, simplicity and a little genuine personality will always strike the perfect balance for a heartfelt and memorable wedding day, especially when they're full of pretty personal touches like Saskia and Ben's wedding day was.  I love these photos, and whilst I'm sure Saskia and Ben put a whole lot of effort in to their wedding day, these images are full of effortless charm, don't you think?

Huge congrats to Benjamin and Saskia on tieing the knot and many thanks indeed to photographers Creative Wedding Duo for sharing these lovely photographs.

I'd love to see some sweet words below from readers. Have a lovely afternoon all,

Much love,

Annabel
