Bridal Inspiration Board #52 ~ Mint Green With A Hint Of Peach

Well hello everyone and welcome to 2013; I hope the new year is treating you well so far!  A very big and special hello from Michelle and Vicki at Pocketful of Dreams to all the lovely new readers who are just discovering Love My Dress and the oodles of beautiful inspiration that Annabel and Franky provide; we know that a lot of you may have got engaged over the festive period and we'd like to extend our congratulations and welcome you to the wonderful world of weddings!

We loved reading all about your plans and proposals on these fine pages last week but one of the things that struck us is that whilst some of you are full steam ahead with a clear vision of what you want from your day, others are a little less clear on where to start.  We know that wedding planning is hugely exciting but that all too often, after that initial feeling of elation it is easy to get a little overwhelmed.  So today, instead of providing you with our standard dose of pure inspiration, we thought we would do something a little different and give you some insight into how we, as creative event designers, develop and then use our inspiration mood boards to plan beautiful wedding days for our clients…

Creating A Bridal Inspiration Board

At Pocketful of Dreams we adore original, quirky and thought provoking design and those little touches that make our hearts sing.  We're not big on just creating weddings which are "on trend", rather we are passionate about embracing individuality and designing creative and personal weddings which perfectly represent our couples.

For us the starting point of designing any wedding is to really get to know the couple we are working with – we like to get under your skin, tease out your likes, dislikes, dreams and hopes in life and for your wedding day.  Once we're armed with these insights, then we can start to get creative.  Of course we take an interest in trends from the world of weddings, design, architecture, fashion, you name it, but we think about how we can interpret those trends uniquely and introduce them in the context of the characters and personal style of our couples.

A key part in all our design work is the creation of a bridal inspiration or mood board.  These boards are a way for us to communicate the essence of our design in a way that words alone just can't convey (after all, the word "vintage" may conjure up a very different image in our minds to the one you are currently picturing); they provide a guide against which we can review all subsequent design decisions and a means of communicating to various suppliers ranging from stationers to florists.  This ensures that we deliver a day to our clients which may not appear overly themed on the surface but is consistent, cohesive and flows effortlessly.

For example, we wanted to show you how the below wedding inspiration board, which we recently created for a photoshoot, was taken from inspiration to reality; our original idea was to create something around the colour mint (a key colour trend for 2013) and over time we refined our concept into a design which was pretty, fresh and energised.  We evolved the colour palette from just mint to incorporate shades of cream and a hint of peach, creating an inspiration board which was soft and beautiful with a sense of an enchanted garden…

Translating Inspiration Into Design…

Now your mood board itself isn't a paint-by-numbers blueprint that shows exactly what type of flowers you are going to have in your bouquet or the precise stock your stationery will be printed on.  Instead, it is about really bringing to life the essence of your design (you can work through all those other details later on in your planning!).  Think of the inspiration board as an abstract representation of the idea of your wedding day; it should capture your dreams for your wedding and give a sense of the style and mood of your wedding – how you want it to not only look but also feel.

By creating a conceptual mood board, we are then able to work with your suppliers to communicate your design and help them work with you to drill down into that inspiration and bring your ideas to life.  Think of the mood board therefore as a stepping stone to working out your exact bouquet and cake design.  An expertly designed board will give your team of suppliers enough guidance to understand and stay true to the overall design concept whilst still giving them the creative freedom to input their expertise and produce something spectacular and unique to you.

And this is exactly the process we worked through with our crack team of suppliers to bring the above inspiration board to life.

Mint green and peach wedding ideas

We styled a wedding table with beautiful, mint-hued, scalloped tableware, accented with peach napkins, crackled glass votives in soft gold and a stunning vintage-style cake stand with a slight gold sheen, resplendent with delectable cupcakes in mint, peach and cream with the most delicate of sugarcrafted embellishments.

Mint-hued place names and menus perfectly complemented the table, with a hint of foliage acting as a motif to tie the stationery in with the highlight of this scene: the florals.  Wild About Flowers
took our vision of something fresh and enchanted to create a wooden
planter for the table centrepiece, overflowing with David Austin roses
in a sublime peach, with textural succulents and other garden style
flowers in mint, cream and peach tones.  We worked with Wild About to
design a river of flowers which flowed over the side of the table,
creating a living table runner, bursting with silver moss, enchanting
florals with fresh and succulent peaches and figs in a riot of
mouthwatering colour and textures.

So as you can see in the process of transforming our inspiration into reality, we have evolved and refined our design whilst still staying true to the freshness and energy of our original concept.
