A Forever Yours Dress for a Vintage Glamour Inspired Wedding

Good afternoon loves, hopefully you'll have had a chance by now to check out our sponsored post of this morning. Our sponsors represent a select pick of wedding related goodness that we believe you will benefit from knowing about. They are also the reason we're here delivering daily inspirational content to you! So do pop by our latest feature on The Bridal Store, if you haven't already.

The photographs on this page were sent in by the very lovely Sally Thurrell whose previous work you can see featured on Love My Dress here. Sally was present at the wedding of Shonagh and Ben tied the knot on 1 November last year at Hutton Rudby
Village Hall
(that's the second village hall wedding this week – I love
the notion of a village hall wedding, don't you?).

"My dress was by Forever Yours, and I had a shoulder
detail added to give it more of a vintage feel. I picked it up from a
Bridal outlet shop in Northallerton, this was perfect for me because I
wanted to
pick a dress without a lot of fuss.

The
first thing I bought was the shoes and they influenced the dress. The
shoes were the perfect mix of classic glamour with a modern finish. The
matte white glitter finish made them look like they were frosted. For me
the dress had to be glamorous but subtle so I went for a classic
sweetheart neckline and full organza skirt with a hint of sparkle. I
only tried on 3 dresses and went for the second, it just felt right.

"Autumn is my favourite season because of the rich colours so we
decided on early November. We both had a good idea of what we wanted
within the wedding and didn’t want a long engagement so we planned our
wedding in 9 months. Looking back that seems mad but it meant that we
were very focused and prioritised what we really wanted.  I
had so many eclectic ideas that it really didn’t fit one style, so the
theme was a little bit vintage, very hand crafted with a burst of
eccentricity. We wanted to reflect ‘us’ so we included lots of trinkets
and treasures that we have gathered from the various places we have
been.

I sewed hessian table runners edged in antique lace for each
table, including the top table. Above the top table we had an arch of
pastel coloured birds- I sourced these from Monsoon (they had been in
the window display) In another room we had bunting stretched from the
beams and paper lanterns handing from the ceiling."

"My parents gave me a pearl in a
white gold and diamond setting and I wore a pale blue crystal cuff that
my grandmother handed down to me on my 18th birthday.

I chose not to wear a veil because of the fullness of my dress."

"Our Florists were Flowerhouse
Gill
and her team were fantastic and created a beautiful bouquet of blue
Hydrangeas and cream fresia corsages for my bridesmaids. We matched the
corsages and buttonholes.   We decorated the village hall with large
vases of gladioli in bright shades and fresh cut mixed wild flowers.

We used lots of jars filled with candles or fresh flowers.
Keeping the Autumn theme we created apple tea lights and I painted
pumpkins and put our initials on with some seasonal gauds."

"A family friend baked the cakes and my mum iced and assembled the cake tiers. The fondant was a bespoke colour from Cupcake-world I made the toppers."

"Our photographer Sally Thurrell was
fantastic and I knew from the first meeting that she knew exactly what
we wanted to achieve. It wasn’t just about beautiful photographs but
capturing the feel of the day and moments that myself and Ben might have
missed. We wanted relaxed, natural, dreamy images and that’s exactly
what Sally created for us. We saw Sally as a guest at our wedding.

"Ben was my brother’s best man and I was the maid of
honour, so it was a bit of a cliché, but it had a fairy tale ending.

After four years Ben proposed, the day before Valentines Day in York, which
is where he took me on our first date.

We
had a Roman Catholic service in a beautiful little village church that
had the most amazing rustic charm. We added some small seasonal blooms
in hessian covered pots and wooden lanterns to the alter but it really
didn’t need anything else.

Sitting beside my husband as he held my hand through our service and then listening to Bens speech at our reception.  Our day was entirely perfect and so many of our guests said how much they loved the relaxed feel to our wedding."

"My Dad walked me down the aisle to an instrumental version of Yellow by Coldplay.

We had traditional Roman Catholic vows and we made a
selection of readings upon advice from our priest. I chose readings that
illustrated the meaning of marriage and the bond between man and wife."

"My engagement ring is vintage, I just loved the setting as
it has tiny heart cut outs. We found both engagement and wedding band
in a shop specialising in pre-owned pieces in Middlesbrough. I really
like the idea that they have a story behind them, I just don’t know what
the story is – I like to think it would be a story worth telling.

My
wedding band is a simple white gold band, it emphasises the intricacy of
my engagement ring."

"We had a DJ for the main hall and a Wurlitzer jukebox in another for a more chilled out space where people could chat.  Everybody loved the photo booth, it had everybody in stitches and lots of guests became friends this way. Ross from Snaparazzi Photobooths has a fantastic service with high quality photos and great props."

"Music is Bens thing so he suggested the first dance ‘Stay young
go dancing’ by Death cab for cutie (one of Bens favourite bands) it’s a
beautiful song and when I listened to the words it had particular
meaning to us.
