In our third and final blog piece today, I'm so happy to be sharing imagery from S6 Photography. Jon, the photographer, is always such a pleasure to work with and I love seeing what beautiful new wedding day photography he comes up with every time.
This time, it happens to be Rich and Claire who got married on 21 September last year at The Black Swan in Helmsley, North Yorkshire.
"Kate Sherford was the designer of my amazing dress and it was from Lace in Hale, Cheshire. When
I saw my dress on the hanger, I never thought I’d end up with it as I
didn’t like it!
My sister chose it and told me I should try it on (this was during her final dress fitting). Before the dress was on properly and buttoned up I was speechlessly in love with that dress. I tried many more on months later but nothing compared. My dress was so far from anything that I would ever have tried on. I never believed it when people said to me 'you will know when it’s the dress', but now I find myself saying it to everyone I speak to that’s getting married."

"We chose our venue The Black Swan as it suited our boutique wedding style - the food was out of this world and it wasn’t the typical wedding venue. Our wedding day wasn’t inspired by anything other than our want for an intimate, eclectic day. Rich being a designer meant that he created our wedding invites which meant they were totally unique. We once saw a lovely little collection of eclectic hearts whilst out wandering round the shops and so we decided to collect a selection to go on the back of every ones chair for our day, family and guests bought us some hearts to bump up our collection. It almost symbolised that we didn’t want to follow tradition and have everything matching.
The colour scheme was inspired by our venue, we could just picture how well the colours would look at The Black Swan. If anything, I suppose we were more interested and inspired in vintage style but not taking it on fully instead of the modern approach."
"The Cake was made by Jacks of Melbourne. I found the inspiration on the internet whilst looking at images of wedding cakes. We opted for gold dyed pearls for the top tier and then white for the rest of the cake with little iced flowers. We didn’t go for traditional fruit cake as I’m not a fan so we had carrot cake and vanilla sponge.
The cake we wanted was a four tier but this amount of cake would have been too much for our intimate wedding of 40 guests but any fewer tiers and the cake wouldn’t have had the same wow factor so 2 tiers were polystyrene (nobody knew) but at least the 2 tiers that were cake all got eaten."
"We met playing badminton eight years ago and were a hit pretty much straight away. Rich asked me to marry him on Christmas morning seven years after meeting and produced the diamond ring after sending me on a present hunt around the tree. It totally took me by surprise. We celebrated with champagne with our neighbours at 10am!
Marrying Rich is the best thing ever - he’s the man of my dreams, my best friend and my soul mate. Seeing him looking so beautiful and smart made me smile from ear to ear and they way he held my hand with both his hands when saying our vows, it was like no one else was there. Obviously the whole day was amazing and having our friends and family there with us meant the world to us. I wouldn’t change a thing other than maybe not being full of cold on the day!"
"My mum found my shoes for me. They were designed by Hassall and suited my dress perfectly. Handcrafted using delicate chiffon and lace, they are inspired by vintage satin flowers. Beautiful shoes and so comfortable."
"Our florist was Leafy Couture from Otley, Leeds. I found them almost last minute having struggled. I saw a brides bouquet on the web page and went for an option very similar. Due to the time of year, some flowers weren’t available but they were so brilliant, they made it look just as I wanted. Once I had found my dress, I knew I wanted white and green flowers because I could see how they would go so well. We had David Austin roses to add something different and my sisters had hydrangea which I was told was really delicate and may not last the day but they looks brilliant and did last all day."
"We used S6 Photography – Jon Dennis. We were shown one of his pictures from a wedding that our friends had been to and they made comment on how brilliant Jon was. We didn’t need to see anything else, we contacted Jon and he was available. We had a pre wedding shoot where we got to know how Jon works and what it would be like to have him with us on our wedding day and also became friends so when he arrived on our wedding day, it felt like I was just surrounded by friend and family instead of people we had only just met.
Jon is so unobtrusive, you don’t even realise he is there. One of the most important things for us was to come away from our wedding day with the most amazing photos that we can look back on for years and be reminded of the feelings from the day and with S6 Photography – wow we have just that. The style of photography is non-posed which was ideal for us. Rich is not a fan of having his photo taken but not even he realised that he was being photographed all day. The presentation of our photos and the slideshow to music that we also got are indescribably amazing and we can’t thank him enough for our fabulous photos."
"My Uncle David gave me away. Due to family dynamics, my dad didn’t come to our wedding but it didn’t once dampen the day and I think my uncle quite enjoyed his duty as he has 2 sons and would never get that opportunity himself. I walked down the aisle to the bridal march played by our Berenice. It was a traditional piece, unexpected by most but felt so right for us."
"My bridesmaids dresses were from Ghost.
Both in navy and floor length but different styles to suit my sisters
figures. It was important that they felt comfortable and glamorous too
and with one sister being pregnant, they decided on the dress that they
preferred. I don’t think you would notice that they are different until I
told you."
"We didn’t write our own vows as there were pre written ones that described exactly how we felt towards each other. As part of our vows, we promised to laugh and cry together- both of which we have done much of through the last eight years of our relationship.
My younger sister did a reading that she picked herself- she felt it would add some humour to the day but was so relevant to us as a couple. Its called – ‘He Never Leaves The Seat Up’."
"We had our first dance to Eva Cassidy ‘Songbird’ as this meant a lot to Rich and I – it was a favourite of Rich's Dad who lost his battle with cancer in previous years. The words of the song just filled us with joy especially the bit when she sings 'and I love you, I love you, I love you, like never before.' (soppy I know)."
"In terms of entertainment - we had a harpist for pre wedding entertainment, bridal entry and then the reception. We booked her through The Alive Network, she was called Berenice. For the evening we had a jazz band – All That Jazz, also booked through Alive Network. They were a brilliant choice for our wedding and we danced the night away to their awesome sound."
[Claire, Rich - we used the same harpist at our own wedding! She was fabulous].
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
"Don’t let it become all you ever think about, plan it steadily and somehow this makes your special day sneak up on you quicker! Don’t be swayed by other peoples opinions and likes/dislike, make sure your wedding day has got you as a couple written all over it.
My top tips though – get a decent photographer and remember the important part – you are marrying the man you love, everything else is a bonus."
Huge thanks as always to the fabulously talented and ever great to work with Jon of S6 Photography and thank you so much too Claire for so openly sharing your wedding day details to inspire others. I love your halterneck dress and think you look knock-out.
