Here's something pretty for you on this fine spring day! Connie and Dolly is an
online boutique based in Surrey. Poppy, the founder and creator, produces stunning bridal accessories
with a vintage flair.
'I have always been a
collector of vintage costume jewellery. Connie and Dolly sprung from my own
wedding. I couldn't find suitable accessories for my gown, so I took
matters into my own hands! In 2011, I launched Connie and Dolly and since then it
has grown from strength to strength.'
The new Sweetpea Collection is designed for brides not necessarily looking for an accessory crafted from original vintage. It features 17 pieces inspired by Poppy's mother's garden and a collection of botanical vintage prints. With a focus on embroidery, hand-beading and appliqué, the fluid, handcrafted designs are named
after flowers and Victorian girls' names.
The collection of headbands, hair combs, forehead bands and cuffs are intended to suit a wide range of dress styles. The delicate forehead band 'Niamph' would suit any bohemian bride, while the bird cage veil 'Magnolia' is perfect for that retro look.
Poppy told me she loves everything about her work…
'After 10
years as a busy hairstylist, I thoroughly enjoy still being creative
with my hands and helping brides create their dream. Designing accessories is
actually very similar to being a hairstylist! Brides come to me for help; they know what
they don't like but are not sure what they do like. I love taking a vintage
item and making something new and beautiful – this also applied to hair clients unsure of what would suit their hair. Many brides
ask me to create an accessory using an heirloom piece of jewellery, which I
love! Connie and Dolly has opened my eyes to a colourful, inspirational and
exciting new world.'
Connie and Dolly manages to combine opulence with affordability. Both the original vintage collection and The Sweetpea
Collection are priced the same, with headbands from £120-£150, hair
combs from £50- £115, forehead bands from £60- £110 and hairpins £15- £50. Poppy also offers a
selection of sashes, original and vintage inspired jewellery and art deco
clutch bags.
Connie and Dolly ship all over the UK, Ireland, Channel Islands and internationally. The range is currently stocked
at Amante, Heavenly Vintage Brides and Pearl
and Willow and is also available via Etsy. Poppy also
offers a bespoke service, working closely
with brides to develop their dream adornments.
