A Vintage Brooch Bouquet and Yellow Shoes For A Beautiful Wedding In Tuscany

Well hooray! The sun is back! Good job too, or I might have had to be taking myself back off to Italian shores to enjoy the warm climes over there. Talking of which, Verity and Ian tied the knot on 1st June this year at Villa Catignano in Siena, Italy.  The couple hired Jackie from Marry Me in Tuscany to assist them in planning their special day.

I love the Italian backdrop to this gorgeous day, and Verity's choice if dress is simply perfect – a fun, 50's inspired design by the uber-talented Joanne Flemming

"My dress was designed by Joanne Flemming – what an
amazing lady.  You go straight to the designer and she can make the
perfect bespoke dress for you.  You can tweak the design as you go
through the sessions so it is truly perfect. Mine was based on the dress 'Cecile'
.

The dress was the first thing that inspired me.  I wasn’t sure what
I wanted but I knew I wanted a short dress! My dress was the first one I
tried on and I knew immediately that it was perfect. A 1950s style
dress so I took this and tried to bring some other vintage style pieces
for the day. We also wanted it to link to the venue and Italy and so the
lemon theme seemed obvious especially as the venue had a lemon grove as
part of the garden."

"Ian is a vet and at the time we met I was a rep for an
animal health pharmaceutical company.  You could say we met when I was
selling him drugs!
We got engaged on new years eve/day 18 months before the wedding.

It was a great
engagement as we had been out with some friends for the evening. We
returned home and Ian had arranged for a friend to come into the house
and set up a treasure trail of round objects that wouldn’t fit on my
engagement finger – they varied from hula hoops to a polo mint! The last
one was a haribo-ring that he used to propose with. We then chose the
real ring together the following week.

"I had an amazingly beautiful brooch bouquet which was designed and created by Daisy Mae designs.

I had some personal pieces in there from mum, Nana, friends and
great grand parents.  It even had a watch in with the time set to 3pm
(the time of our wedding) it is so beautiful and personal and makes a
great piece for the bookcase at home now!"

"The
ceremony was both in Italian and English and we were very lucky to have
an Italian friend (one of our guests)translate our wedding vows on the
day."

"For my veil, I used a vintage brooch from a little shop in the
Brighton lanes and then simply sourced a bird cage veil net online.

I wore my Nana’s pearl necklace and Ian bought me my pearl bracelet that he gave me on the wedding morning."

"As little wedding favours, we provided limoncello on the table with desert!  We also used lemons and lace as table-names."

"We used antique candle holders, lanterns and paper pompoms. The venue was
so beautiful in its own right we kept decoration simple and minimal."

"A local cake shop created the traditional Italian wedding
cake 'millefoglie'.  We wanted to keep some Italian links and tradition."

"Our photographer was Dominic Wright – he and Zoe were absolutely
amazing – they were great fun and made it so easy to relax.  The
engagement shoot before the wedding was so helpful not only for some
great pics but also we knew exactly to do on the wedding day! Can not
recommend them highly enough. They are amazing, amazing, amazing!

"Our rings are from Justine in Hatton Gardens.
They were so helpful and took us through so many options.  They can
make a bespoke  ring  if like me you can’t find the perfect one from
thousands of rings they have to try!"

"A friend said to me when I was planning “don’t
sweat the small stuff” and she was right.  Sometimes less planning is
more. Don’t have a minute by minute plan of what is to happen just go
with the flow on the day and you will be much more relaxed.

We drove to Italy and had a 'pre-moon' holiday so we used our own car for the day. We were tempted to hire a fiat 500 though!

We didn't have a first dance – we wanted the day to be about what
we wanted and not necessarily to have to conform to every wedding
tradition!

Also, Pinterest was an amazing tool – I lost hours looking through pictures for inspiration."
