Tipis and A Bell Tent Village For A Polka Dot, Colourful and Candy Anthony Style Glamping Wedding

Hey there, hope this finds you well at the start of a brand new week
and raring to go, whatever you are up to, whatever you have planned.
It’s been a chilled out weekend in our house, lots of movies, a little
sunshine and some refreshing rain showers too, how about you?

There’s something quite special about this week’s very first ‘real
wedding’; Leanne and Bear tied the knot on Sunday 5th May 2013 with a ceremony
at Kendal Registry Office
in the Lake District, followed by a tipi/tent
reception in a field.  I love how completely at ease this couple are
with each other,
how relaxed everything appears, and how important it was to Leanne and
Bear that all their guests had a day to remember.   I’m going to start
this piece with a mini-movie from the master wedding film makers Shutterbox Films (it’s only just over a minute long so you could give it a whirl when the boss isn’t looking!).  The delightful images you see on this page here today were sent in by the amazingly talented Lisa Jane

“Our wedding film was our treat to ourselves. It wasn’t a necessity, it was a
touch above our budget but boy are we glad we booked Shutterbox Films over a year in
advance! These guys create cinematic magic with your day. It helps us
to remember the feel and flow to the day and means that our three
brilliant speeches are on film to watch all over again…”

“So many people
have said to us since seeing our wedding film that they wish they had their own film to remember their
day.  I studied film and television at drama school, so realise our investment really was worth every single penny.

Shutterbox Films mixture of HD and Super 8mm
creates a really unique feel, which they then mix with music of your
choice. It helps that they have been a pleasure to deal with from start
to finish and we are SO booking them for a baby video of some kind if we
have children!”

“Bear and I met at a house party which was to celebrate Bear coming
back from traveling and moving in with his friend Dan, who was one of
our Groomsmen. Bear surprised me with a trip to Edinburgh in February
2012.  It was for my birthday and it was a return to the first place we
went away to together.

The day before my birthday we went for a walk up
to Arthur’s Seat and, as I was taking a photo on my Diana+ camera, Bear had got
down on one knee with the most beautiful blue engagement ring. I turned
to see him there and (after checking he was sure!) I was thrilled to say
yes. We then went for a whiskey to settle both our excited nerves!”

“Our day was planned the way it was because we had one key theme: we
wanted everyone to have fun. This went from the caterers, to the
photography and especially to our friends and family. We wanted everyone
to feel relaxed, so encouraged guests to wear what they felt
comfortable and special in. We chose a barbeque to ensure that everything
was still relaxed but yummy and the table settings reflected this.

The
more we talked about everything we loved, the more it became like a
country fayre/festival. We quickly decided on the tipis and glamping for
guests which really set the mood. After that the Ceilidh band / live
music came naturally.”

“When my sister was planning her wedding I spent a lot of time
browsing magazines and blogs for ideas for her. Every dress I saw that I
liked for me always turned out to be by the same designer. I told Lisa
who it was and she excitedly told me that her wedding dress was by the
same utterly brilliant designer: Candy Anthony.

It was the first place I went to try on dresses and
when we got there Rachel greeted my girls and I warmly. She made us a
brew and we chatted about us and what we wanted our wedding to be like.
She then chose some items, got me to change without peeking and then
dressed my a coloured sash and veil. When I finally got to look, I knew
right then it was perfect. She made me try others, even at other stores
so I could try lengths, colours and styles. This was a wonderful idea
because, even though SO many of the other dresses were gorgeous, I
always compared them to that first
Candy Anthony dress. Obviously, I
went back and got that one!”

The polka dots just
seemed fun and then length meant I could wear whatever shoes I wanted
and still have a wonderful time. The pop of colour suited our relaxed
nature to perfection and I wish I could wear it all the time!

It covered
my upper arms, which was my one dislike for other dresses I tried, yet
it flattered my shape. The great thing is that all the layers are
separate so I can wear each thing with other outfits, or simply put it
away and save it until we go on our honeymoon in December. I am
definitely wearing this in Vegas and possible NYC!”

Candy-anthony-1950s-vintage-glamping-tipi-wedding_0096

“We tried various veils, long, short, bird cage, but I LOVED the
height on this one. About half way through the fittings I was toying with
the idea of a really long cathedral veil, but in hindsight this was
perfect for the easy wear feel of the dress. Minimal fuss, maximum
impact, plus it went easily in and out of my hair.”

“Our great friend Amy Lou did our flowers – we said she had many
hidden talents! We went crazy pinning arrangements on to a shared board
on Pinterest and also took a trip to price things up at the Covent
Garden Flower market. I then gave her a loose budget and she did
incredibly.

We basically wanted lots of colour which looked natural, as
if we had scooped them up from a meadow or the woods. They were arranged
in jars and tea pots which we had collected, with a little help from
our friends and family. Amy arranged the bouquets and button holes so
each one was different and had hints of the colours that person was
wearing. She also made a mad dash out the day before and came back with
ribbon for each of the girls which matched their dresses.

We had loads
of flower arrangements to give out to guests and they lasted for ages
afterwards. We received so many compliments on the flowers and I think
they fit the theme of the day perfectly.”

“When it came to my bridesmaids, we didn’t want to pick just one colour, we wanted lots of colour!
Having each girl wear a dress she felt comfortable in was important to
us. We wanted our nearest and dearest to have a good time and this
started by them feeling as good as they looked. Whilst it got a bit
chillier later on and people had cardigans or coats on in the evening,
the pictures of them all together literally bring me to tears.

They are
all so gorgeous and we feel so lucky to have had them be a part of our
day.”

“We wanted to write our own vows, but we didn’t really know where to
start.  We took inspiration from the film The Vow, as their vows are
lovely!  We didn’t hear each others vows until we said them at the
ceremony, but I did read mine to the bridesmaids before hand to try and
get the words and without crying! (I didn’t manage it!!).”

Leanne:
‘I vow to help you reach for everything you want in life, to hold your
hands when things get tough and to always offer you honesty. To learn
from you, to laugh and dance with you and to always encourage you, to be
ok with you making dippy eggs all wrong and to be patient when you
throw the lids away, even though they are the best bit. Because, in the
end, without you they would only ever be the average bit. You’re the
best bit. But most of all, I vow to love you completely in any way I
can.

Bear: ‘I vow to love you with all my heart in the past,
present and future. I vow to make you laugh whenever you are down and
all the other times as well. I vow to always call you Wezzers and to
take you for red velvet cheesecake. I promise to love you and support
you in anything you want to do and help you obtain every hope and
dream.’

“Our wedding reception was held in two giant tipis, surrounded by a
bell tent village all provided by Cariad Canvas
This gave our wedding a really great country fayre/festival theme, and
allowed it to be very outdoors and more open plan. With the Bell Tent
Village, Cariad Canvas brought
everything, including the bedding and bunting! In the main tent, the bar
and tables were provided, but we did the rest. I sewed bunting and
collected decorations from places, such as hearts from IKEA just after
Christmas when they were cheap!  We also hired some extra disco lights
but Anna from Cariad Canvas also brought some.

Leanne’s dad cut logs and we used them to put candles on. When we left
the tent the night before, we were instructed to give Amy and our
friends a list of things that needed to be done and we were to relax
from that point on. This is something we will forever be grateful for.”

Candy Anthony wedding dress, tipi glaming wedding, Lisa Jane Photography

“The
guys from
Cariad Canvas were absolutely exceptional. Anna consulted
with us all the way up to the set up, making sure we had considered
different options, always happy to adjust our order to suit our needs
and help us with any query or problem that might have arisen. They
provided everything at such a great price when you compare them to
others, and their set up for the big day itself was fantastic. They
liased with us at the site, made sure we were happy with the layout,
offered practical advice on how to get the best out of the Tipi’s and
accompanying bell tent village.

We arranged for guests to book the bell
tents from Anna, and they formed a fantastic ring of gorgeous little
tents around the main structure, as well as allowing people to stumble
to bed at the end of the night with great ease and short travel times!”

“The guys worked tirelessly to put all the finishing touches on over the
evening and following morning. They probably had moments of panic but we
were never called upon. This meant that we got to relax and enjoy our
day from the evening before and we trusted they had everything covered.
They blew our expectations, by arranging the suprise cake, inflating our
huge balloons to match the bridesmaids, lighting candles, creating
suprise fireworks displays and hanging a washing line of photos of us
both as our guest book.”

“We put brown paper on
each side of the tables and hand wrote our guests names on it, with
their teacup and saucers and cutlery wrapped in polka dot napkins.”

“We took inspiration for our first dance from Lisa. We didn’t like the
idea of shuffling around awkwardly on the dance floor in front of
people, especially as we don’t really do fornal dancing. So, we decided
to take that super special moment and make it private. We had only our
photographer Lisa, her husband (and second shooter plus our close
friend) Alex and Shutterbox there to capture the moment, but even they
didn’t hear the song.

We had an iPod and headphones and shared a few
quiet minutes lost in the moment by the river. We danced to Ella
Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong ‘I’m putting all my eggs in one basket”.
It starts off quietly, but gets a lot more upbeat. We got so lost in the
moment I tried to do a spin and forgot we were wearing headphones!”

I think that photograph above is probably my favourite from the whole day. I just absolutely adore it SO very, very much.

“I won a competition by commenting on a blog by The Paper Girls to help design wedding stationery. In
hindsight, had I not won we would still have booked this as we got a
huge amount of knowledge to help us create very unique wedding
invitations. With some help from Paper Girl Lucy Ledger, her art work and the creative eye of our red
bridesmaid Georgie Fearns
we created really cute invitations and a table plan which really
captured the feel to the day. We even added silly personal jokes and
names for each of our guests!

If you didn’t want to design your own stationary, Lucy Ledger Designs have a really gorgeous range.”

“I have always lived my life by one rule: ‘Follow the
Butterflies’. For me, this applies to jobs, houses, shoes and, of
course, Bear. If you gut instinct is telling you something is right, it
is worth exploring. For my birthday this year, Lisa had bought me two
butterfly clips from Crown & Glory . After some discussion with my friend Amy, we decided they would work perfectly
under the veil and therefore the veil came off later in the day.”

“Oh the cake always gets me a bit teary, but in a good way!
Ever since we went to Vegas for Lisa & Alex’s wedding, we knew we
wanted red velvet cake. We also knew that after going for tea with Charlotte from Restoration Cake
that her red velvet cake was unbeatable. It is so moist and the icing
is so light and scrummy! She sent us a gorgeous bespoke design, complete
with delicate icing bunting and cake stand, which she spent time
creating with us based on our wedding themes and ideas. We were so
excited, but then our budget took a thump. We had to pay a little more
for the toilets / showers / crockery and so we tried to juggle things
around.

We were devastated to not be able to afford Charlotte’s yumminess to
share with our guests, but when a friend, Ali, offered to help us out
and make a cake for free we simply couldn’t turn it down. So, we left it
with Ali and were excited to see the results on the day. It wasn’t
until we were married and arrived at our reception that we saw how our
friends had all clubbed together in a secret squirrel mission to buy
Charlotte’s incredible three tier design for us.

I literally burst in to
tears at how nice the gesture was and everyone loved trying the cake.
Not only that, but Emily who was one of the bridesmaids and is talented
in so many ways had been practicing at making cake toppers. So when we
approached our surprise cake we were also greeted by two white bears,
one with a veil, blonde hair and a bouquet and the other with a little
blue police helmet on. They looked amazing and were the perfect personal
touch to sit atop the most fabulous cake. When coupled with the
surprise fireworks display our green bridesmaid Maddy & her fiancé
planned, this summed up the entire day. We have the best friends and
family anyone could ever hope for.”

Lisa Jane
was our photographer.  Lisa has not only been one of our best friends
for almost our whole relationship, but long before that, for Bear.  The
first thing we were sure about was that we wanted to offer her the
chance to capture our big day.  We were worried she might prefer to
enjoy the day as a guest, but she was instantly a huge part of the
planning process. Having experienced all kinds of weddings,
Lisa was a
wealth of knowledge and was on board with our themes right away. She
gave us confidence to go for the things that mattered to us, not
necessarily the way it should be done. Lisa knew how to help us
structure the day from a time perspective, which helped the whole day
flow smoothly as we had made time for everything.

We didn’t stick to
deadlines (the ceilidh band kindly went back an hour) because everything
was happening so easily. This would never have happened if it wasn’t
for Lisa’s input. This isn’t just something she does for her friends,
this is who she is. She has a gorgeous style that was completely in
keeping with our theme and the whole idea behind the wedding.

Lisa is
wildly generous with her time and skills and literally blew us away
with what she came back with. The moments she captured tell a story far
better than we could have hoped and we can treasure them for the rest of
our lives. We are honoured to have her create our memories and are so
proud of everything she is doing.”

“My hair was done by our wonderful friend Amy Lou. Infact, our
whole entire wedding wouldn’t have happened without her brilliant mind.
She has a heap of hidden skills which we used and abused and she was on
top of everything which needed any attention. She supported all our
friends and family and made sure we didn’t have to worry about a thing. I
remember at the moment when we thought we wouldn’t pull the whole thing
off, Bear looked at me and said “ Don’t worry, Amy Lou will be here
soon!” Amy, you were our rock.”

“Before I had bought my dress, I actually bought one of the three
pairs of shoes I wore. I had already tried the dress on, so I knew the
colour and style I loved. It was then that I stumbled upon the Menbur
heels on Pinterest and I simply had to have them! Luckily the link took
me to Sarenza, where they had one pair left – in my tiny 2.5 size!
I had never worn slip ons before, due to my tiny feet, so I was nervous
they might be too loose. When they arrived. they were not only
gorgeously presented but they were super comfy and the colour matched
the dress when I finally got to try them together!”

“We didn’t have much budget left, but we still managed to get a
white London taxi. Seeing as we met in London, this was perfect. Lancashire Limos
were reasonably priced, arrived on time and even had fizz and a red
carpet for us! They also decorated the car with ribbon colour of our
choice and the driver even waited around the corner with me and my dad,
as we were almost 15 minutes early!”

“We asked the bridesmaids to wear the style of
shoe and dress they felt comfortable with. The only guidance we gave
them was colours. I gave each girl the colour we thought would suit them
best, but made sure they were happy wearing it. We decided to tie
everyone together and get nude shoes. It was totally by chance that all
the dresses were the same length as we hadn’t even seen most of them
until the day!

Our gift to the bridesmaids was a
necklace, with a little butterfly. I found them in a shop on Etsy and
loved them. They all wore them on the day and it was another sweet way
to tie each differing outfit in to our themes.”

Candy Anthony wedding dress, tipi glaming wedding, Lisa Jane Photography

Bear told me “I’ve never been a fan of the morning suit look, while I
appreciate it’s a traditional style it was never going to fit into the
theme for our wedding. I looked round for a suit for a while before
settling on a fantastic dark blue suit from TM Lewin, which I
complemented with a white shirt and black silk tie from M&S. The
look was partly influenced by one of my favourite films, ‘I Love You,
Man’, and gave it a more personal feel while also being really
comfortable!

When I was getting ready on the day
of the wedding, Alex my groomsman (who also happens to be Lisa’s
husband) presented me with a gift from Leanne. I opened it up to find a
set of cufflinks from All Things Brighton Beautiful Shop at notonthehighstreet.com. They both had maps, one was of Edinburgh
where we got engaged and the other of Kendal where we were about to get
married. They were a fantastic touch to the rest of the outfit and it
was especially lucky as I couldn’t find my cufflinks anywhere!”

Candy Anthony wedding dress, tipi glaming wedding, Lisa Jane Photography

“I had a best man and two groomsmen. My best man, Dan M (there were two
Dan’s!) I have known since school long with his wife Rachel. They are
both our best friends and we are godparents to their daughter Ava. Dan T
and Alex I had both met over 10 years before when we all worked at
Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street. I’m so lucky to know those guys, I
rarely laugh as much as when we get together! To say thank you for all
their support I got each one a set of cufflinks.

For Dan M I got a pair
designed as little crosswords with ‘best man’ on one and ‘wedding’ on
the other. For Alex, in homage of the days we used to live together and
play computer games to the early hours, I bought him a pair of Tetris
themed ones. And for Dan T, I bought him a pair of Moby Dick themed
cufflinks, due to him loving the book. I was really pleased with them
all and the guys were all blown away. It helped to form just another
part of what was an incredible, perfect day. (All cufflinks were from
stores on
notonthehighstreet.com)”

“Music is a huge part of our lives, as one of the things that I
loved about Bear from the start was his huge and varied musical
knowledge. We carefully selected each song played, from the moment we
got to the registry office. My bridesmaids led me down the aisle whilst
our good friend & musician Richard
played a relatively unknown song by Bryan Adams called ‘I will always
be right there’ live and acoustically on his guitar. It was gorgeous and
had people sobbing from the very start. We signed the register to
‘Life’s a Happy Song’ by the Muppets, which got a lot of giggles! We
then walked back up the aisle to Kiss ‘I Was Made For Loving You’.”

Candy Anthony wedding dress, tipi glaming wedding, Lisa Jane Photography

“My Dad gave me away. It was a lovely moment on the way to the
registry office, mainly because my Dad held my hand the whole journey
and still talked his usually chatty nonsense which really put me at
ease. My Dad is my hero. He has gone above and beyond the call of duty
that any father should and I love him so completely unconditionally
because of it.”

Candy Anthony wedding dress, tipi glaming wedding, Lisa Jane Photography

“We chose our rings from Andrew English. We wanted something a little different
and Bear in particular didn’t just want the standard band.
Andrew
engraved our fingers prints in to the top of the rings, asking us to
choose the positioning and even fitting it to the engagement ring.
Bear’s ring has my fingerprint and mine his.

As Bear is a police officer
this was perfect. They came in a beautiful box from Andrew and the
finished product is something we are proud to wear all day, every day.
We felt this was very important for the rings, as it is the one part of
the day that literally follows you everywhere you go throughout the
marriage.”

“We gave our best man’s wife, Rachel, the title
of First Lady and asked her to do a reading during the ceremony. She
suggested “The Wedding Song” by Bob Dylan which suited our love of music
perfectly. She read it whilst fighting back her emotions and it was
wonderful to have her be such a part of our ceremony.
Our favourite lines are;

‘I love you more than ever, more than time and more than love, I love you more than money and more than the stars above.  I love you more than madness, more than waves upon the sea, I love you more than life itself, you mean that much to me.'”

“The catering and bar were run by a friend of my dads. We
had no set menu choices, it was a barbecue style buffet complete with
desserts. They worked hard to ensure we had spirits our friends would
drink, which included Sailor Jerry Rum – a huge favourite amongst our
friends. Sailor Jerry have changed their recipe over the last few years
and we were really disappointed, so bought several bottles before they
sold out.

We always said we would save one until our wedding day, so we
opened it with
Lisa, her second shooter & husband Alex and Lee and
Dawn from
Shutterbox. All of us drank in the quiet by the river and it
was one of our favourite moments. The photo of us sat on the log is from
this exact time and is one of our top three snaps.”

Candy Anthony wedding dress, tipi glaming wedding, Lisa Jane Photography

“We had created a playlist for our whole day, with different ones
for different times of the day. Bear worked really hard to put them in
an order which built the feel and mood of the day. We had ones for
welcoming the guests, which switched seamlessly on to our ‘Welcome Mr
& Mrs G!’ playlist. We walked up the hill alone, knowing all our
friends and family were waiting. We came around the corner to a huge
cheer from the bottom of the field.

Our chosen song, The Ramones ‘Baby I
Love You’ came blasting out as we walked from one end of the field to
the other, towards our beaming guests.”

“Our glampers needed somewhere to get ready and eat breakfast, so our neighbours The Plough Hotel
not only provided breakfast but has endless plug sockets for
straightners etc. The weather held off nicely, but it was really useful
to have somewhere to rely on if the heavens had opened!”

“We ensured my Dad had plenty to drink! he delivered a
fabulous speech and even went a bit crazy in the photobooth. Our only
regret is that we didn’t get him a site managers hat, as he supervised
the construction of the entire event.

We held the speeches before the
food, so that everyone could relax afterwards. This was very clear with
my Dad, as he let his hair down and I clearly remember him uttering the
words ‘I haven’t been this pissed in a long time. You did good, kid!’.  A bit of another tear jerker of a memory for me!”

“Our wedding favours were tea cups and saucers we lovingly
collected, as well as receiving some from our friends and family. Very
few of them matched and people used them to drink wine, as well as
champagne and soft drinks throughout the night. Many people took them
home but we also had a lot left over, some of which we kept and some of
which we donated to the pub across the road.”

“We chose a ceildih band to get rid of the awkward moment between
eating and dancing. This was a fun group activity to warm everyone up
and also get people socialising quickly. It worked! As the ceildh band
drew to a close, our bridesmaids ushered us outside and we were asked to
stand on the carpeted walk way. Luke told us to ‘walk forward if we
felt burning’ and instantly launched a surprise fireworks display! It
looked incredible.”

Candy Anthony wedding dress, tipi glaming wedding, Lisa Jane Photography

“Our musical adventure continued
throughout the night, until Bear turned to me and said ‘I spent 6 hours
on this playlist, but the bloody iPod is on shuffle!’ We laughed and
fixed it, but no one apart from us noticed. Everyone was dancing and
singing and at some point hundreds of glow sticks appeared from nowhere
and lit up people’s faces, wrists, heads… you name it and there were
glowsticks (almost) everywhere!”

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

“Set yourself a time the night before, where you hand over
everything to someone you trust and you take an hour, on your own, so
you can relax.  I ran a bath, had a rum and coke and Bear went for a
long shower.  We turned off our phones knowing our friends were tying up
the loose ends before joining us for our final unmarried dinner. This
meant we were already relaxed and had a lovely evening and wedding
morning.

I would also say that whenever you see a
moment you are enjoying, be sure to share that moment with your partner.
When you look back, you tend to remember snap shots of moments and for
me many of those are the ones where we noted them to each other and
enjoyed them. We took a step back from the party at one point, stood
outside and looked in. Lisa captured this moment perfectly.

Candy Anthony wedding dress, tipi glaming wedding, Lisa Jane Photography

“Our favourite part of the day was the moment right at the end of
the night, when we looked across the madness of the left overs in the
tents, glow sticks littering the floor and empty glasses. Most of the
guests were in bed (it was around 3am!) and we went round blowing out
the candles before we went to our wedding night tent. It was wonderful
to witness the whole of the party we had paid for and loved, right to
the end.

That was one of those moments where we took a second, stopped and
remembered it. This is a huge thing I would recommend. Your day goes so

and just remind each other that this is a moment you will always
remember and that these people are here for you.”
