An Organic Cotton And Hemp Dress For An Ethically Sourced, Environmentally Friendly, Vegan Wedding

This wedding will appeal to all those couples for whom impact on the environment and local, ethically sourced supplies are important; Cath and John tied the knot with a beautiful ceremony in Somerset on
29 June 2013.  The couple  wanted to have an environmentally friendly,
ethically sourced celebration to reflect their vegan lifestyle…

"We wanted a simple, relaxed wedding, we didn't want to spend tons of
money and we wanted to source things from local, ethical suppliers –
which John and I try to do as much as possible in everyday life anyway.
John and I are also both vegans and we decided that all of the food at
our reception would be 100% vegan.
Our caterers were Fairfoods in Devon – their food is delicious!

Most of the decorations were handmade by myself and friends/ family because I love crafts and handmade things and our rings were made out of recycled Gold by Ness Bird Jewellery in Glastonbury."

"Our wedding took place at the Prince of Wales at Ham
Hill, Somerset
.  We chose this venue because Ham Hill is one of the
first places John and I went on a date and we have enjoyed
walking/biking there ever since.

We met through a running
club and being keen runners we became friends quite quickly. John was
very shy and didn't ask me out properly for months after that!"

"We sewed handmade hearts for all of our guess and hung them onto
willow branches. We also used bunting and homemade crochet flower
garlands to decorate our venue…"

"My  dress was made from organic silk and cotton by Lucia Squillari of Larimeloom on Etsy. It was unique, I loved the raw and unfinished edges, the fairytale
floatiness to it, the long straps that dangled down my back and the many
layers.

John wore a suit of hemp and organic cotton made by Sidekick Clothing."

"Our readings included 'It's Better With Two', by AA Milne from
Winnie the Pooh, read sweetly by my seven year old cousin Ellie.  We
also had an
Apache Blessing (Anon), read beautifully by my grandmother, and Words of Wisdom by the Dalai Lama, read by Johns brother.  The Dalai Lama is such an inspirational man and I love his teachings."

"We had a three tiered vegan wedding cake from Rainbows End Cafe in Glastonbury, who are renowned for their awesomely delicious vegan cakes."

"Our favourite moments of the day included sitting outside in a
big group of my favourite friends and family, Eating falafel from the
falafel van on the grass outside the barn as the sun set. Also dancing
to the band with my 6 month old son Leo strapped to my chest in a
sling!!"

"I can't recommend our photographer Anna Taylor
highly enough! I was not sure initially about employing an official
wedding photographer, as I felt sure that a photographer would make us
all stand around for hours, trying to capture the best group shot, and
frankly, I didn't want to stand around for hours posing for the camera
on my wedding day.  As soon as we met Anna and saw examples of her work,
my fears were allayed. I instantly loved the natural, unposed shots of
people that I had seen on
her website.

Having Anna do my wedding
photography was a dream! She was so friendly and didn't get in the way
at all. We did do a few 'posed' shots, but they were fun and didn't take
up too much time. The most beautiful pictures from our wedding day were
the natural shots that Anna captured, candid shots of people, snaps of a
moment, a decoration, the expression on someone's face, animated
conversations and laughter, all caught on the camera so beautifully. I
would say that the photographs Anna took from our wedding day are each
like little pieces of art! I love them all and am so pleased that Anna
is going to make them in to an album for me."

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Savour every minute of the day- it goes so quickly!

You
don't have to spend heaps of money – EBay, Etsy and homemade goods can be
just as beautiful and unique at a fraction of the price. Plus if you
have a handmade dress then it won't be the same as anybody else's so
extra special!"
