Hello lovely ones, time for a little lunch break yet? Or perhaps you're perusing through these pages whilst taking a rest already. This afternoon's wedding was sent in by photographer Sarah Jane Ethan, and I love how she has so sensitively captured this lovely wedding day on camera.
Phil and Helen tied the knot on on 27th July, 2013 with a traditional church ceremony, followed by a reception at Kings Hotel in Darlington. The couple looked to the colour blue when styling their wedding and I absolutely LOVE that Helen wore her glasses on her wedding day.
"We based the wedding pretty much entirely around the Tanzanite ring Phil bought me for Christmas the previous year and his favourite colour being blue sealed the fact that we should have a wedding styled in blue, from the bridesmaid being in midnight blue to the tables being given shades of blue names instead of numbers."

"Phil and I met through a friend at the church I attend; it was a surprise engagement on Valentine’s Day of this year over a jacket potato. The significance of the jacket potato goes back to a shopping trip to the Metro Centre where Phil asked me if I thought we should get married one day whilst we were eating a jacket potato.
It was a relatively short engagement lasting only five and a half months as we figured why wait?"
"Our ceremony took place at St John Church Elton, and the reception at Kings Hotel Darlington. We came across the church while we were out walking and the hotel was a surprise find as it was an after-thought to just have a look, but then we discovered just how beautiful it was.
The ballroom in which our reception was held was a beautiful shade of blue, and we complemented the white linen chair covers with a cyan blue bow. As a table centre piece we had vases with some gerberas and baby breath, a cyan blue lantern and the buckets of sweets on every table."
"Eliza Blooms of Darlington was our florist and I couldn’t recommend them enough. I chose them because of their vintage style which complemented my dress and the whole feel of the wedding perfectly. My bouquet was made up of lisianthus, roses and gerber minis, with the bridesmaids having smaller versions of mine."
"My dress was designed by the French designer Manon and I purchased it from Sense of Style in Cockerton, Darlington. I chose this particular dress because of its vintage style and its beadwork detail along with the fact that it was fitted to fit me perfectly and showed of my new found figure.
My veil was specially ordered in store at Sense of Style to complete dress."
"Phil decided he wanted to be slightly different from the best man, ushers and my dad so we went for a navy suit with an ivory waistcoat and sky blue ruche and hankie."
"The three tiered cake came from Marks and Spencer which I decorated myself with handmade sugar flowers in, of course, blue."
"Our photographer was Sarah Jane Ethan. We were told about her from a friend after we were let down by our original photographer and it was the best decision we could have made. Her style was quirky, not your ordinary run of the mill photos, but beautiful, captured in the moment, memories which were exactly what we wanted."
"My beautiful friend Louise did my makeup and my gorgeous cousin and bridesmaid Jen did my hair."
"My adult bridesmaids dresses were from BHS and my little bridesmaids dress was from Next. I requested that they wore nude shoes but in whatever style they’d like and would be most comfortable in. Their hair accessories were from Claire’s Accessories and the bracelets they wore were gifts from me."
"The wedding car was a blue 1930s Bentley which we hired from a friend of Phil’s family. The other cars were family and friends cars."
"My dad gave me away and I walked down the aisle to RPM First Love which a Christian song, but it has amazingly beautiful words that I felt were true for me to say to Phil."
"We said the traditional vows as we felt they were perfect for us and we had two readings – one from my bridesmaid Rachel, who read a poem – and the other from our friend Chris, who was the friend who introduced us. Chris read an extract from Corinthians 13. We chose these because we thought the words were very fitting to the day and had great meaning to us."
"I didn’t want a traditional favour as such so we decided on using mini stainless steel buckets and filling them with retro sweets from our childhood so everybody could take a pick and mix."
"Our first dance was to ‘1000 years’ by Christina Perri. We first heard this song on one of our first dates. I really got lost in the words and I couldn’t have imagined a better song choice for us.
"The whole day was wonderful and amazing, one of the most favourite parts for me was the morning with my bridesmaids, having some champagne and getting ready. However I think my favourite favourite part was walking into the church and coming round the corner to see Phil waiting for me at the altar and the look on his face."
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
"I wouldn’t change anything about my day we were so lucky to have beautiful weather to match a beautiful day.
My only advice to any brides-to-be would be do things your own way, exactly how you and your husband-to-be want, it’s your day and nobody else's. Don’t be disheartened if you can’t have a certain location for the reception or the church is booked on the day you want, there are always waiting lists or look at other places you never know what little treasures you could find."
Huge thanks to you lovely Helen for sharing all this detail to inspire our readers – you looked amazing and I adore it when brides wear their glasses with confidence on their wedding day. I wasn't so brave (I'm stupidly short sighted!) but it really inspires me to see others braver than me.
Huge thanks to photographer Sarah Jane Ethan for so kindly allowing us to share her work on Love My Dress today.
