A lovely little late afternoon feature for you today blog readers, something to whet the appetite of all those planning a pretty pastel coloured Spring time wedding.
Iris and Stuart tied the knot on 25th May last year at The Kings Hotel in Christchurch in Bournemouth.
“I actually had two wedding dresses! I wanted a tradtional style day dress and I love dancing so I wanted an evening dress where I could strut my stuff. My second/evening dress was my favourite,it was by David Fielden and I purchased it from Noble and Wright. I dealt with Hannah, who was amazing she has great ideas and was so easy to talk to and made me feel a million dollars. I secretly try it on now. This dress made me feel very special."

“Stuart and I met in June 2000 – I was on holiday for my sisters and I met Stuart in Gran Canaria. I was 19 at the time. My holiday ended and I went home to Ireland. We exchanged numbers and text and called constantly – 3 weeks later I flew back over to Gran Canaria to Stuart and we stayed there for 18 months. We were together 12 years before he popped the question in March 2012. The minute we got engaged I was on it – I didn’t want a long engagement I had waited 12 years for this moment and I loved every minute of it.
We chose our venue, The Kings Hotel in Christchurch, as I am from Ireland and Stuart is from Hampshire – I wanted an intimate wedding and a location where my family could fly into a local airport with limited hassle. Bournemouth airport is perfect."
“I love rustic, shabby chic styling, and wanted a chilled out day where we both felt comfortable as Stuart is not the type of person who likes being centre of attention. My family are really laid back so wanted the day to be the same so that everyone felt relaxed. I love colours although pastels are my favourite. So this was how the theme came about, and everything else revolved around this."
"My dad Mick, my best friend, walked me down the aisle. He was so nervous. He did great and looked so cute in his suit – he’s not used to wearing one!"
"My first dress, that I wore in the day, was by Nicola Anne it was called 'Dolce' and I bought it from Elderberry Brides. I had already bought my evening dress so the day option took a while to get right. On a whim I went to a local bridal shop and tried on lots, but then when they showed me this one which had just come in – I knew in an instant it was for me – a beautiful classic design with vintage inspired elements and I loved the band round the middle (I changed the colour from cream/gold to a lilac colour). The fit was perfect and I really felt like a bride."
“My favourite colours are pastel shades. when I went to see Maria I explained to her what I was looking for and she had some great ideas, like bird cages, candles and wicker hearts. My bouquet was so pretty it looked rustic rather than structured. I had a mixture of all types of flowers from peonies to heather to hydrangeas with orange berries, there was a bit of everything. Again Maria was fab and effortless and had great ideas."
I really love the couple's wedding cake with its elegant laced icing effect…
"Our wedding cake was by Nicola Mayes of Ice Ice Cakey. I wanted a pastel cake with different flavours with a lace pattern. We had lemon cake, chocolate cake and jam sponge. We never got to taste any of it as it had all gone, which is a good sign."
"Our photographer was Hayley Savage who was amazing! Neither of us like having our picture taken – Hayley made us feel so comfortable. Most of the time we didn’t even know she was taking pictures which is why we have some amazing shots. Stuart felt comfortable with her and all my friends loved her. Have had great comments about our pics – Hayley is really quick at getting back to any queries and just so nice!"
"We had for our ceremony the Bristol String Quartet. I love a string quartet. However they ended up being stuck in traffic so we never got the songs we wanted for the ceremony and instead they played classical music. They made up for it by staying later and playing the songs we had chosen - Iris Goo Goo Dolls for walking down the aisle, I love this song. We then had a DJ for the evening who was brilliant, James Everett, from We Perform. I gave him a playlist and he played every song from it along with any requests, he was so friendly and his set up was great."
"Our engagement and wedding rings were both bought from Blue Nile. I've always taken time to look at rings when we've been out and about – but had never found something I really loved. Then I was searching Google one day and found my ring. I knew I wanted an emerald cut 1 carat ring, and Blue Nile let you choose from various types and design your own ring. Stuart doesn’t like wearing rings so he didn’t have one (he’s not the jewellery type)."
I loved all of our wedding day, but I would say my sisters speech was probably my favourite part – it really touched my heart – it was funny, sentimental and full of love. Also our dog Bella showed up (she wasn’t allowed in the hotel or ceremony) but we got lots of kisses from her after we said I Do – I tell her we're a proper family now!"
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
“Enjoy all of it, let nothing upset you as it’s the one day when you can do what you want. If things go wrong it doesn’t matter, you're getting married. Don’t feel obliged to stick to the ‘wedding rules’ or get torn by family views, at the end of the day it's all about you and your hubby to be - make sure you always remember that. Try on loads of dresses it's all part of the fun."
What a lovely delightful day – and I love those little photographs of Bella the dog!
Our love and congratulations go to Iris and Stuart on their wedding day, and guys, we wish you a wonderful 1st anniversary this year. Oh and by the way Iris, I adore your David Fielden dress too!
