For The Groom: Great Gatsby Inspired Sartorial Elegance was last modified: September 19th, 2014 by Annabel

Whilst we may usually be all about the bride, we’re also partial to a little groom style every once in a while.  Which probably means that today is a good time to make a big confession to you all.  *Takes deep breath*.  OK. here goes….

I have rather a dislike for the traditional top hat and tails look.  And I’ve also developed an allergic reaction to those swirly patterned waist coats too.

Please don’t hate me – I’m sorry! Well, I mean, I’m not sorry if I’m honest. I’ve seen too many ill fitting morning suits in my time.  It’s not such a good look.  And if you ask me, a gentleman looks so much more stylish and well groomed with a suit that fits and doesn’t make him look like a penguin.  So my friends, I’m pretty chuffed this afternoon to be able to share these images with you that were styled by one of the UK’s most respected groom style consultants and someone I’m a little bit in awe of – Sammy Aki.

All images styled and curated by Sammy Aki, aka, The Groom Style Consultant.  Photography by Sarah Gawler

Shot on location at the stunning English palace and gardens and beautiful London wedding venue, Eltham Palace, Sammy worked with photographer Sarah Gawler and a creative team to produce these images to positively encourage the groom to think outside the box and consider a style that is more true and sartorially elegant to wear on their wedding day. Down with the top hats and tails I say!

“The shoot is a little Great Gatsby inspired and set at a 1920’s Art Deco Palace in London. Sammy Aki has launched her business as The Groom Style Consultant having worked on Saville Row as a stylist for many years so she was able to secure some amazing designers for the shoot. We are passionate about getting grooms thinking more creatively about their wedding attire and are really exited about putting some inspiration out there for them!”

  1. I totally agree with you in your dislike of top hat and tails! We bought my husband a lovely suit for our wedding- he looked far smarter and stylish in this than he would have done in an ill fitting morning suit and we also didn’t bother with waistcoats- that just wasn’t the look we were going for.

  2. Exactly! I just find the top hat and tails/ waistcoat look to be quite dated now. There are so many options for men, I don’t understand why they still wear them.

  3. Gorgeous styles and groom.
I think the groom should feel and look as special as the bride. It’s his big day too! And I do love this Gatsby style, it oozes class and style and suave… I don’t know what. Also love the shots of the groom walking out of the lake. Reminds me of Bridget Jones and the Darcy / Colin Firth interview!

  4. My fiance has said he wants to keep his outfit choice a surprise from me (he said it’s because I get to keep my dress a surprise so he should too!) We are having a very relaxed wedding in a Tipi so I have dropped big hints that I don’t think tails will suit the style of the day… but then I also want him to have the chance to wear whatever he wants. I can’t wait to see what he chooses!! x
