Esme by Jenny Packham for an Elegant Autumn Wedding in Ireland

Good afternoon lovelies, we've made you hang on in there a little for the real wedding feature today – like the saying goes though, good things come to those who wait!  This is for all of you planning elegant autumn weddings.  Niamh, an air traffic controller and Matt who is a pilot, tied the knot on 4th October last year at Kilshane House in Co. Tipperary, Ireland.

"From the moment we visited Kilshane House we knew we wanted to have our wedding reception there. The house itself is so beautiful, as are the grounds, and we were able to make it our own for the weekend. The fact that we had the whole place to ourselves made it very special.

We wanted to go for quite muted tones which is reflected in the bridesmaids dresses and flowers. As my dress was very 1920s, that influenced the style of the day as well. Kilshane House itself is also a very elegant setting which I wanted to reflect in the styling, including the stationery."

"We were both studying the same course in college which is where we met. We were friends first and started dating in our third year. 10 years later we got married. Matt proposed at the top of Cavehill in Belfast, it was a complete surprise, I turned around and he was down on one knee. We got engaged in July 2012 and married in October 2013, so we were engaged for 15 months."

"We hired 'The Informal Florist' on the day – I didn't want any flowers that were too structured or traditional, I was keen for a more natural look. Apart from giving an indication of the colours I wanted, I left the actual choice of flowers to Claire, the florist. We'd discussed what I like and don't like so she chose the flowers herself, and did a fantastic job."

"We wanted to add our own touch to the venue so we used a lot of lanterns and candles both inside and out. We had some old framed pictures of parents and grandparents on display. We also had some verses framed as well as a personal thank you from Matt and I."

"My dress was the Esme design by Jenny Packham – I bought it in the Sharon Hoey Bridal Salon in Dublin.  I always sort of knew I wanted to wear a Jenny Packham dress, but I still tried on a lot of different dresses in bridal shops all over the county. All the Jenny Packham dresses I tried on I liked but as soon as I tried on Esme I knew it was the one. I loved the cut of the dress, and the detail in the beading and the back is beautiful."

"Our photographers were Poppies and MeSean and Kate were fantastic leading up to the wedding and of course on the day itself. They ensured everything went smoothly and the pictures they took are absolutely gorgeous, all our friends and family just love them. I can't praise them highly enough."

"My Granny made the bottom tier of our wedding cake, a traditional fruit cake with almond paste. We then got the top tier, a chocolate biscuit cake, made by Sally Mills http://sallymillsbakery.com who also iced the whole cake."

"I think my favourite part of the day must have been when I was standing with Matt at the top of the aisle and also after the meal catching up with all our friends and family on the dance floor.

In hindsight I would have been a little more organised, there were a number of things I was finishing up to the last minute, it would have been nice to spend the last few nights relaxing before the wedding but that's the type of person I am."

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Try not to stress too much, things are going to go wrong on the day and you need to just go with the flow a bit. You've put a lot of work into organizing everything so be sure to enjoy it yourselves as well. Delegate tasks to friends and family, you don't want to have to think about any of the logistics on the day, leave that to others. Some advice I got was to take a bit of time out to yourselves (just the two of you) at some stage during the day.

We sat down for 20 minutes before the meal and just talked, the whole day goes so quickly so this is very important. It's nice to bring as many personal touches to your wedding as you can, it makes it very special and your guests will really appreciate it. It's just the best day so enjoy every minute of it."
