Happy Friday readers! It’s time for another post from one of our Lovettes. Please give blogging bride Lindsey and her beau Jonathan a warm Love My Dress welcome…

It has been a bit of a whirlwind few weeks since being selected as a Lovette. There have been wedding planning developments a-plenty, which has been all the more enjoyable for having to document everything for my blog posts.

Writing my submission for the Lovettes competition brought back so many lovely memories of the early days of my relationship with Jonathan and, this week, looking through old photos of us to submit with my post was really emotional. We have come a long way together, and I’m looking forward to sharing our adventures over the next year with the Love My Dress faithful.

Jonathan and I met outside King Tuts in Glasgow in June 2007. My friend was managing a band that were playing that night and Jonathan was the lithe limbed bassist. I was standing outside when I saw him – rocking skinny jeans, Cuban heels, and the most amazing hair. I made the first move to talk to him, but Jonathan was particularly shy and sped off looking terrified. Despite this early setback, as I watched him play that evening I resolved to see him again. I ‘happened’ to pop in whenever the band was rehearsing, and slowly we got closer. I tagged along on their “tour” (in reality two gigs in Aberdeen and Edinburgh) and we bonded over the dire sleeping arrangements and being mugged by a particularly aggressive seagull.

As I headed off to the Isle of Lewis to visit my family, a trip I usually relish, all I could think about was seeing Jonathan again. I trekked to the top of the village holding my phone aloft to catch a signal, and we spent our evenings texting each other. We met up the night I returned, but it was the next night when we finally plucked up the courage for our first kiss, after an obligatory all-night chatathon.

The next few years were filled with adventures big and small, from the moors of Lewis to the backstreets of Bangkok, and in early 2012 we moved in together, which has been the biggest and best adventure of all.

Jonathan proposed on 19 December 2013. We had discussed it three months earlier, and looked at rings. I fell in love with the first one I tried on, and unbeknownst to me Jonathan sneaked back and bought it straight away. Our engagement story will always make me smile. We were sat on our bed, and I was just finished grouching over something silly, when he pulled out the ring and said ‘Lindsey, will you do me the honour of being my wife?’ Needless to say, I stopped moaning immediately and said YES!

I never thought of myself as being ‘into weddings’, and we had always thought we wouldn’t rush into getting married straight away. Indeed, during my first forays into the wedding world I was aghast at the limited vision in most bridal magazines, and I thought that wedding planning was going to be more chore than anything else. Then I found Love My Dress. The first wedding we looked at on the site was at Crear, and we were immediately spellbound. We drove up to see it, fell madly in love with the open fire, huge glass-fronted hall and sweeping views of Jura, and booked it for 28th March 2015. On the day this post is published it will be one year to go – eep!

We were back at Crear on 2nd March for its ‘toe tapping taster day’, and we had an absolute ball. There were some super-talented local bands playing, and the staff showcased an amazing array of options for table decorations and flowers, not to mention the food – oh the food! I don’t know how we’re going to choose, everything was just delicious. Seeing the hall all done up and bustling with people sent shivers of excitement through us both as we could imagine what it will be like when our day arrives.

My scouring of Love My Dress has yielded up many gems, and we now have a number of suppliers secured. Another super find was the Glasgow Wedding Collective; we found a great stationer there called Skinny Malink, and they’re currently putting the finishing touches to a design for our ‘save the dates’. It has been so much fun working with them and seeing the design process come together; we can’t wait to crack on with the rest.

I’m so looking forward to sharing more about our experiences so far, and those to come. I’ll keep you informed on all the details of my journey as a bride-to-be and a Lovette, and hopefully partake in some wedding planning solidarity with the Love My Dress readership. Here’s to the next year!
