Good afternoon lovers, we're one step closer to the weekend, which means a whole lot closer to a day full of chocolate. I am very, very happy about that.
Jane and Rob's chic London city wedding took place on 15 June, 2013. I love the city-chic vibe of this wedding – Jane's elegant Jesús Peiró gown lends itself beautifully to the Art Deco backdrop of their wedding venue, The Royal Institute of British Architects.
"The RIBA building is very Art Deco, so we used a deco font on our invites to set the tone. The building is quite big and formal so we used quite natural flowers to help deformalise it a bit."

"Rob and I met at work (office romance!). We got engaged on a weekend away in Devon, (on a bike ride so I was in my cycle helmet and anorak, very fetching!), a year before we got married.
We live in North London so we wanted a venue that was local to us and I just think it’s a beautiful building. We didn’t have a religious ceremony, but the room where we got married has huge, long windows which seems to give the room some gravitas, so it still felt like a serious/important, but fun occasion. When we met the people at RIBA I trusted them immediately and knew they would do a great job."
That beautiful stationery above by the way is by Emily & Jo, who Jane says were totally professional, friendly and accommodating to work with. I concur – and I know this because I worked with them on my book!
The pretty fuschia florals were provided by hip London florists, The Flower Appreciation Society.
"We stumbled across their website and absolutely loved their natural style, use of seasonal flowers and mixture of vases. I love sweet peas and they smelt amazing."
“My dress was by Jesús Peiró (readers, that pronounced 'hay-zoos') and I bought it from Morgan Davies in Clerkenwell. It sounds strange to say it but the top half felt like something I would wear normally. So I really felt like me in the dress (but just a more extravagant version for the day).
I also got quite obsessed with the specifics of lace patterns and I thought this was the most beautiful lace I had seen – modern and not too flouncy for me.”
"My shoes were by Prada – and I've worn them lots of times since!"
Jane's bright blue bridesmaids dress is from Whistles.
“My hair was styled by Sophia at Brooks & Brooks – she is amazing! I did my make up myself, which was wonderful actually because it was a great excuse to invest in lots of new products and spending time doing my make up really relaxed me while we were getting ready.
My headpiece was from Mirror Mirror in Angel, London."
“Our photographer was Miss Gen. We love Gen’s natural style of photography and I think she captured our day perfectly. Much of the time I wasn’t even aware she was there and she produced such a wonderful set of photos.”
"My mum walked me down the aisle to the sound of Salut d’amour (Elgar). We picked this music for no real reason other than it's a piece that we liked that our string duo had in their repertoire.
During our ceremony, we had Your Walled Garden read out – it's not too mushy and includes good, practical advice for marriage. We also had Shakespeare Sonnet 116, 'Let me not to the marriage of true minds' – it's quite short and true and again, not too mushy, which wouldn't have suited either of us."
"Our entertainment was all organised by The Musicquarium and included a string duo before and during the ceremony, the Gold Diggers Brass Band during the champagne reception (we wanted it to immediately feel like a party) and a DJ for after dinner dancing."
“Our wedding cake was from Marks & Spencer. It was an area we decided not to spend too much on, and everyone said it was delicious."
"Our first dance was to Lionel Richie's 'You Are My Destiny'. It's one of my guilty pleasure favourite songs 🙂 We were a bit shy about dancing so we wanted something not too serious that makes other people want to join in."
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
“All the suppliers we used were wonderful. We gave them minimal briefs and they all did amazing wonderful jobs. So I would say: make the effort to find suppliers that you trust and then let creative people do their jobs so you can just have fun and enjoy the results.”
What a stylish day full of effortless elegance. Congratulations to you Jane and Rob – may we wish you a very lovely 1st wedding anniversary for two months time! Huge thanks as always to the photographer – Miss Gen.
