The Moon and the Stars ~ Black and Gold Alternative Vintage Wedding Inspiration

I'm handing over to the very lovely Gwenda Jeffs from the The Vintage Floral Design Co. this afternoon, who is going to talk us through this rather fabulous little inspiration shoot.  I absolutely love to support talented British designers in the wedding industry, and today's shoot brings together some really brilliantly talented suppliers.  Enjoy these images my friends, they were produced with a great deal of love, passion and creativity – the same that each of the suppliers involved in this shoot pours in to every wedding commission they work on.  Over to you Gwenda…

'Like many wedding industry professionals, I spend a lot of time on Pinterest! One day, up popped an image from the 1920s that I have always adored, a woman reclining on a silhouette of the moon. It got me thinking and before I knew it, a new styled shoot theme was born, something where black and gold, a classic and timeless combination, would lead the way for the styling.'

As the team was assembled and our ideas evolved, it became a shoot of two key looks; both infused with an element of Art Deco styling, the first was to be softer and more conventionally bridal, the second stronger with a nod to the alternative.

I was so thrilled that photographer Cristina Rossi agreed to join the shoot – I simply adore the way Cristina captures a mood, from the delicate to the intense – and that was exactly what I needed for this concept of two extremes. Nonsuch Mansion is a venue that Cristina knows well and she liaised with the wonderful events team there so that we had the most perfect location for our shoot.

Charlotte of Wilden Bride provided us with the most amazing dresses. The first was a gorgeous pale ivory flowing number with a floral sash and the most swishable skirt! This outfit was completed by a delicate gold capelet with a subtle leaf pattern, also adorned with a shoulder placement of floral appliqués. The second, a show-stopping sheer gold dress with beading, sequins and dried flower detailing, was just perfect for creating a different silhouette and mood to the first.

Anneke of Retromorphosist is a true artist with her hair and make-up brushes! She took her inspiration from the theatricality of 1920's burlesque performers, the glamour and femininity of 1930s screen sirens and the catwalk looks of John Galliano, using dirty silvers and golds for an antique effect. The second of her fabulous hairstyles was complemented by the ‘Luna’ hair garland, an intricate  vine of sparkling stars by What Katy Did Next.

Marsha of Marsha Hall Handmade Shoes explains the inspiration for her beautiful creations as follows: “I wanted to represent the coolness of the moon by using a beautiful bright white satin but contrast that with the sparkle of the stars by using a fine glitter material for the back of the shoes with a soft gold glittery star that can be removed and moved to other parts of the shoe".

Cakes and sweet treats are always a highlight of every bridal shoot and when Elizabeth of Elizabeth Cake Emporium is involved, you can guarantee that they will be exceptional. In her own words: "I am always excited whenever Gwenda approaches me to be part of a shoot because I know it will be awesome."

"The brief I got given for the cake, cupcakes and dessert table was to use lots of gold. For the main cake, I created a very simple 3 tier cake covered with edible gold stars of different sizes and topped with a starburst of gold stars.'

"The cupcakes were triple chocolate flavour topped with swirls of delicious chocolate fudge and decorated with edible moulded gold stars and shooting stars. The cupcake wrappers were specially sourced for their sparkle and texture."

"The star shaped cookies were decorated with gold stars and half moon crescents but my favourite cookies were the ones with the smiling moon faces as the mould was created specifically for the shoot. I cut out lots of teeny tiny stars for the cake pops which finished off the mini desert table nicely".

Jinder of The Finer Details created a gorgeous suite of stationery for the shoot: “I wanted to create a design that was clean and simple yet still eye-catching. Inspired by the magical colours of a dark night sky, I opted for a luxurious black linen cardstock, with opulent vintage filigree scrolls and swirls, to create an incredibly luxurious stationery set."

"Beautiful fonts including a flourishing script for the couples names were paired with a clean and classic block font to exude elegance and tie the suite together. To add to the overall theme I made a variety of die-cut shapes which were combined to create placecards, table numbers and a mirrored table plan. From the invites to the lined envelopes and table plan, no detail was overlooked! An alternative table plan was also created to show how an overall design, style and theme can be interpreted in more ways than one to provide the perfect combination of glitz and glamour.”

It all came together beautifully on the day, but there was a last-minute catastrophe on the flower- front as my delivery of blooms ended up strewn all over the hard shoulder of a motorway in Holland – the driver was unharmed in the accident (save his pride) but it did leave me in a bit of a pickle! As my original vision was no longer feasible, necessity did indeed become the Mother of invention. I set about gilding foliage and dried hydrangea to create a statement trailing bouquet, designed to unite both halves of the concept that the whole team did such a wonderful job of bringing to life.

Beautiful! Huge love and thanks to the very talented creative team who brought these images to life to inspire us all today.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone, but not until you've pinned as many images to your Pinterest boards from this feature as possible!
