A Charlie Brear Dress for a Seaside Wedding in Devon

Hi everyone, I hope that you are all enjoying your summer and that you have had the chance to go to the seaside! This wedding is real treat, the couple love the sea and felt it was only right to have their wedding as close as they could to a beach. What I love is that it’s not your typical ‘beach wedding’ (if there is such a thing!), there’s an elegant vintage theme with a gorgeous VW camper and lots of happy, smiley guests.

Nicki and Danny’s wedding took place on the 9th of November 2013 at Langdon Court near Plymouth and their purple colour scheme evolved organically, through choosing a colour for the bridesmaids dresses, with a gorgeous mix of light and dark flowers in the bouquets and around the venue. Nicki and Danny were so lucky to have a sunny winter’s day so that their photographer Simon could capture some amazing couple shots on the beach. I know you will just love perusing and pinning the lovely images below.

“We wanted to get married near a beach as we both love the sea. I was born near Plymouth and still have family living there and as soon as we walked into Langdon Court we knew it was the perfect place for our wedding. We had wanted a vintage theme and the hotel truly fitted this and was only a few minutes from the beautiful Wembury beach.”

“My dress was a lace Charlie Brear1910 style, I knew I wanted lace before I started to try anything on and I didn’t want anything too structured or heavy. As soon as I tried my dress on I felt comfortable and like me. The dress was the vintage style I was after but was also very individual and different to other dresses I had seen before and the lace was so beautiful and delicate.

It made it even more perfect that it was similar to the dress my mum wore for her wedding and I didn’t realise until after I had chosen it. Laura and Kerry at Perfect Day were so helpful with how I could style the dress to make it my own. My bridesmaid Laura bought me my veil, a floor length, single tier with a lace trim.”

“I met the lovely ladies at Florabunda , Judith and Julie at a wedding fair at Langdon Court, as soon as I started to talking to them I knew they should be our florists. They are both so friendly and knowledgeable. My bouquet had purple lisianthus flowers, calla lilies and white bouvardia. They also let me tie my bouquet with lace from my mum’s wedding dress.”

“We met through friends nine and half years ago and became engaged 3 years before we were married. Danny proposed to me in Plymouth on the Barbican on our six year anniversary.”

Nicki’s bridesmaids dresses were from Debenhams.

“We chose to use the colour purple because it suited all of the bridesmaids and the bird/birdcage theme was a reminder of my granddad as he has passed away. He loved birds and it fitted with the vintage styling that I liked.”

Simon was the best photographer we could have chosen, he made everyone feel at ease and captured our day better than we could have ever imagined. We loved every single one of our photographs, they are all perfect.

Every one of our guests is pictured smiling and happy.  Simon knew the venue so well which made it run smoothly and the pictures of me and Danny on the beach are breath-taking. Our dream of photos by sea came true, and were even better than we were expecting.”

“My dad bought my jewellery, a pearl necklace and earrings, for me from The Silver Shop in Bath. I also wore my Pandora bracelet with a pearl charm which Danny had bought me for a Christmas present.”

“I walked down the aisle to ‘A Thousand Years’ by The Piano Guys and our first dance was to ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson. It has always been our song and the words reflect how we feel about each other.”

Words of Wedded Wisdom

“Don’t panic and don’t over complicate, I gave myself one thing to organise each month as I was lucky and had months to plan. But I found this way, things never got on top of me and I enjoyed planning the day. Take help from others when it is offered, my mum especially helped me every step of the way.

I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute, but it was very special walking along the beach with my wellies on, having our photos taken. I couldn’t believe the sun was shining in November for us, we were so very lucky.”

Thank you very much to Simon for sharing these beautiful images with us and congratulations to Nicki and Danny on your wedding. If any of you are searching for a processional song I have added a link above to the song Nicki and her bridesmaids walked down the aisle to by The Piano Guys, I absolutely loved this version, it sets a lovely romantic tone for an intimate wedding.
