Today, I have a confession to make. When I’m browsing the incredible real weddings here on Love My Dress (which is definitely super important work research no?), I admit to always checking out the shoes that are on show. They can be a subtle compliment to an outfit or a wonderfully bold statement and whatever style they are, I invariably find myself focusing on the footwear. So, you can imagine my excitement when I was introduced to Merle & Morris, designers of truly gorgeous shoes and today, I’m thrilled to share detail of this British bridal brand with you.
The talented duo behind Merle & Morris, Hazel & Shelley, started the company after years working as footwear buyers and designers. Hazel herself was getting married and just couldn’t find the pretty, fashion forward designs that she would want to wear on her wedding day and beyond. So, having set themselves the goal of designing feminine, vintage-inspired shoes, Merle & Morris was born.
And oh my goodness, haven’t they surpassed those aims? Taking inspiration from the designs of the 1920s and 1930s, Merle & Morris have added in high-fashion twists and have used gorgeous trims and materials to create shoes that are undeniably special.
“We wanted to create shoes that women would fall in love with, in the most amazing materials that you won’t find on other bridal designs,” say Hazel & Shelley. “We’ve used the most amazing leathers in finishes such as opal, metallic crackle, two tone snake and beautiful blush silk.”
Each and every Merle & Morris design also has a unique design accent that adds the most perfect finishing touch to each shoe – it could be a deco inspired trim or a hand beaded motif and these stunning details are guaranteed to be noticed. We simply adore the gemstone, bow & veil adornment that makes Merle & Morris’ ‘Iris’ one of our favourites. But then, there’s also the rather heavenly gold glitter underlay that sees ‘Baccara’ making our list of shoes we just have to wear.
Happily for brides, Merle & Morris shoes are a practical as they are beautiful. Every design includes a super soft foam pad under the ball of the foot – an absolute wedding day essential in our opinion!
Based near London and shipping worldwide, Merle & Morris designs start at £280 and their incredibly popular bespoke service, where you can have any of the shoes from the range made in your choice of colours and materials, starts at £380. Honestly, can you think of anything better for brides, maids or Mums who’d like a unique pair of shoes that can be worn on the wedding day and at every possible opportunity afterwards?
Do visit Merle & Morris’ website to view the collection and find out more about their wonderful bespoke service. You can also connect with Hazel & Shelley on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest (be prepared to lose hours here – the Merle & Morris boards are utterly fabulous and cover all kinds of pretty from cakes and cocktails to amazing homes and hotels as well as shoes to make you swoon) and keep an eye open for their new Esme design that’s launching soon – bridal shoes in silver leather with a deco trim sound really rather special.
