1950s, 1960s and 1970s Vintage Wedding Dress Elegance With NamaNama

Something lovely to be inspired by this afternoon, courtesy of Nathalie Janssen owner of online vintage boutique, ‘NamaNama’ – and who also styled these images you see below.   Nathalie worked with a creative team to produce these images that were inspired by the notion of a vintage woodland wedding and that celebrate the timeless beauty of vintage bridal fashion.  Naturally the images made a strong connection with me and so I chose to share them with you today.  I love the simplicity of this shoot and the choice of florals, accessories and gowns.

NamaNama sells unique and exclusive vintage clothing and accessories from all over the world (from Japan to the US, England and France).

“My shop, NamaNama, began with the intention to sell vintage pieces that are in great condition but fit in contemporary life as well.  I primarily sell beautiful vintage gowns and love dresses that are made of extraordinary fabrics including brocade, silk, lace and Irish linen as well as designs of rare beauty. I simply adore floral designs! My dresses are feminine and elegant with a romantic touch. In my search I also came across beautiful wedding gowns, which slowly developed into a stunning collection from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.”

I love Nathalie’s approach to vintage….‘why not reuse a dress that is old but still in excellent condition? There is something about these dresses, a story that they tell, a secret they carry with them, that makes them so special. As a bride you become a part of, and allow that story to continue.

I think every era has its charm. I completely fell in love with the feminine simplicity of Audrey Hepburn who wore a lot of elegant dresses that have a tight body and pleated skirts (mid 50s). However, I am also very fond of the 70s hippie, bohemian style which was a big source of inspiration for this particular shoot – hence the abundance of flowers, lace and knit work.”

“I carefully selected the wedding gowns used in this shoot for their subtle beauty and divine, handcrafted lace work with gorgeous floral patterns. As a bride, you really don’t need much more than this to shine.  My absolute favourite is the white strapless lace wedding dress from the 70s; floral lace from top to bottom, finished off with a satin ribbon under the bust line.

My team and I worked with passion and enthusiasm to make this wedding shoot possible. For me, it was an awesome experience. It really moved me to watch vintage dresses that I carefully selected come to life.”
