Covet Love: Autumn Reads, Home Comforts and the Perfect Ankle Boots

Ahem, this is an introductory note by me, Annabel, because I want to let you know that since writing this post just over a week ago, Kate has only gone and got herself married, and I wanted to say a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to you Kate! I’m so excited about hearing all about it and seeing some photographs! For now though, back over to you for our second ‘Covet Love’ feature of today.

I don’t really like winter, which in my opinion goes on far too long. I’m not a massive Christmas person either. But there’s still something magical about the in-between time of autumn. It’s when I cosy up in blankets, eat steaming bowls of veggie casseroles and soups, go for early-morning runs and kick up the leaves. And, as I’m getting married this Saturday (yes – unbelievably, that is tomorrow) every year from now on I’ll have an anniversary to look forward to as well.

I think this time of year is all about nesting, so I’m starting my list with two lovely things for our cosy kitchen. Namely, this Falcon Enamelware teapot in red (1) and these ‘perfectly imperfect’ Wobbler pasta bowls from Loaf (2), which will hold pasta, risotto, curries and tagines in addition to the aforementioned casseroles.

Next, this gorgeous, speckled-y hand-thrown plant pot (3) from Etsy seller Natalie Strachan. I can’t remember how I came across it – that’s the joy of Etsy – but I love the colours and the earthy, tactile look. I’m getting a serious thing about houseplants and succulents and this would be a perfect addition to my little writing room.

Something else I’ve been lusting after for a while now is an illustration of me and my beloved by the incredibly talented illustrator and photographer Blanka Biernat (4). I first discovered this lady through a blog post by Love My Dress® regular Emma Case, so I knew she’d be good. Check out the couples’ portraits on her website – they’re so sweet. A little wedding present to ourselves maybe?

After a long summer of being a bit rubbish at hobbies, I’ve finally fallen back in love with my sewing machine. It was making the wedding bunting that did it – a simple, repetitive project that built my confidence back up and has left me with some rather pretty decorations for our village hall. I want to keep it up, and venture into making my own clothes, so I’m eyeing Love at First Stitch by Tilly Walnes (5), former Great British Sewing Bee contestant and the blogger behind Tilly and the Buttons. It’s meant to be really easy to follow, and could even help me kick my Topshop habit. Maybe.

Another book I’m looking forward to snuggling up with is Us by David Nicholls (6). It’s the eagerly awaited follow-up to One Day (brilliant book, shame about the film), and I can’t think of a better way to spend a few evenings while my fiancé husband works late.

You must know by now that us Love My Dress ladies love our footwear. Is there a most exciting autumn purchase than new boots? I think not, and I’ve found some beauties at Somerset-based Seven Boot Lane. My favourites are the equestrian-inspired Bayarma boots (7), which will be perfect with my staple black skinny jeans or thick tights.

Another recent discovery, and appealing to my desire to own All The Sparkly Things, is this delicate chalcedony pendant (8) by my latest jewellery crush, Project J. I love subtle gems and this sea-green colour is incredible. Even better, it ‘offers calm and composure’, which are two things I don’t currently possess.

Finally I’m going to pick something I already own, but would rather like in endless supply. It’s a spot treatment. But – stay with me here – a really, really luxurious one. I’ve suffered with my skin since forever and, aged 34, my dermis is still staging a teenage rebellion. But this little pot of heaven (9) by aromatherapist Alexander Soveral soothes and clears a breakout like nothing I’ve ever known. It’s gentle, organic and smells of lavender. Equally delightful is the box it comes in, which is printed inside with butterflies. Butterflies!

I do hope you approve of my list. Have a wonderful, cosy autumn and wish me luck for the big day tomorrow – I literally am getting married in the morning and I cannot wait.

Love and squeezy hugs, Kate xx
