THE LOVETTES (Rosie) ~ Six months to go!

wpid316962 Rosie Lovette October update 1

It is rather a week of milestones this week, as today heralds six months until our Wedding Day, and yesterday will be exactly a year since we got engaged.  I’ve only just got out of the habit of correcting myself from saying ‘we’re getting married in April next year’, to ‘we’re getting married in April’, and it only seems like yesterday that Tom and I raised a toast to it being a year until we got married.  Time really does fly.

Starting the six month countdown fills me with a mix of both excitement and slight nervousness – excitement because I am eagerly anticipating the moment when the fact that we are soon to be married starts to feel ‘real’ and not like I’m planning somebody else’s wedding (surely this must come soon?) and nervousness because the closer we start to creep towards 17 April 2015, the more I realise there is so much more to do, to plan, to book, to make.

But since the last time I wrote a post, there has definitely been little pockets of activity that have garnered little ticks in my wedding notebook.  Most notable, we have sent out our Save the Dates! We bought these ‘whimsical woodland’ Save the Date magnets which we customised with our wedding colour scheme (blush pink and mint green) and our initials.

Since I still have the ‘Thankyou’ magnets for presents we bought when a friend’s daughter was born on our fridge (she is now 2), my thinking is that the magnets will be a permanent reminder to our friends to get that date in their diaries!  In a way the sending of the Save the Dates felt a little symbolic – even though we’d obviously booked the venue, photographer and caterers before sending them out, it still felt like our first step towards ‘wedding officialdom’ – a sort of ‘we can’t back out now!’ type of moment.  I also set up a website with accommodation and other wedding information on that will be helpful for our guests and got some postcards printed with the address on that went out with our Save the Dates.

Of course the sending of the Save the Dates meant finalising our guest list, as, as a friend reminded me just before we sent them – “You can’t send someone a Save the Date and then decide you don’t want them to come!” The guest list has been a rather iterative process – we were initially aiming for 70 but have ended up sending out Save the Dates (it’s a mouthful but does not lend itself to being an acronym) to around 90 people.  It has been a challenge finding a balance between keeping costs down and the natural snowballing of friendship circles and those people who weren’t on the original list but then you decide you definitely definitely want to come.  We’ve decided not to have a separate evening do (how do you decide which of your friends are ‘ceremony friends’ and which are ‘evening do friends’? It seems too difficult) – so we only have the ‘all or nothing’ options when it comes to the guest list.

One of the things I didn’t think I would be excited about but now definitely am, is the flowers.  Just like the guest list, our ideas for flowers rather snowballed during a meeting with our florist, as we went from flowers at the end of aisles to woodland floral crowns.  I am excited that we can let a little of our creativity come through in our flower choices, and extend the rustic, woodland feel to our flowers.  Even Tom got excited talking about his buttonhole – he is a real lover of the forest and loves the idea of having bracken and heather for him and his Ushers.  I also nearly hugged our florist when she showed me her shed – packed full of jam jars, wooden crates and log and bark centrepieces; what a find!

Reading back over that it sounds as if we’ve started to grow our plans for the wedding beyond what we originally imagined, and that’s definitely not the case.  We are still aiming to keep to a budget and constantly refer back to that first entry in my wedding notebook that we made when we originally brainstormed ideas for our wedding – many of which we’ve been able to take forward.  Two of our friends got married a few weeks ago and we were lucky enough to go to their beautiful wedding at Stockbridge Farm Barn in Sherborne.

When I asked her after the wedding for some tips on what worked well, and what would help us plan, my friend reminded me – “Do not worry about anything – just relax.  All you will care about on the day is being surrounded by your friends and family.”  Suddenly my nervousness about having time for all of those DIY wedding projects I found on Pinterest doesn’t seem quite so pressing…

  1. I love this write up, its totally how I’m feeling. I’m getting married in June 2015, and so far just have the venue and dress sorted and even the dress I’m having a wobble about.

I really like the idea of the table number with the jam jar and wooden number. Think i might have to pinch this idea, thank you.

  2. Ive just got so excited reading this, my wedding is on the 11th April and now that ive passed the 6 month mark it does feel real and i cannot wait to walk down the aisle! Still lots to do mind you, ive finally ordered my dress but still have BM’s flowers etc to sort out!!

  3. I love this, I also get married on 18th april and have a mint, coral and blush palette! Now that we are in the 6 month brackets it starting to feel more real as I too have had the ‘planning somebody elses wedding’ feeling!
Thank you for the advice on not stressing about completing all the pinterest craft projects, I too worry far too much about this!
    xx
