A Handsome Whippet Wedding Guest And A Colourful Cornish Seaside Celebration

Hello you lovely lot 🙂 Have you had a moment to check our 2015 wedding trends post from this morning yet? We’re talking elegant and tasteful – and tailored completely for your appreciation – bookmark this page so you can devour it over a glass of wine later this evening.  This afternoon’s wedding is such a fun and joyous affair.  Junior Doctors Jenni and Sam tied the knot on 11th October this year at Rosteague – a beautiful private manor house on the coast of Cornwall, that is available for hire to a limited number of weddings per years.

I love this particular wedding for several reasons, that gorgeous vintage crown, the maids looking so pretty all in a row, but the biggest one is the way the couple embraced their dog as a guest! I just adore the photographs of bride, groom and proud pooch all together 😉

“We wanted our day to be laid back, informal and fun for all our guests. I wanted things to be really colourful, rather than the usual shades of white and pastels.”

“Sam and I met at university around five years ago and first lived together when we moved to Cornwall last year. We got engaged in December of last year and started wedding planning in the February – our wedding took place eight months later.”

“We chose Rosteague, a private house on the coast of Cornwall, as our wedding venue. The couple there hire out the grounds of their house for up to 12 weddings per year. The house is near Portscatho on the Roseland peninsula, one of our favourite areas of Cornwall. We felt strongly that we want the wedding to be near the sea and we wanted as much of the day as possible to be outdoors.

This venue allowed us to have a lot of variety of outdoor space with beautiful gardens, fields and it’s own beach.”

“My bridesmaid’s dresses were a variety of styles in the burnt sienna chiffon fabric, from ‘For Her and For Him‘.”

“For the marquee and table decoration we went for a sea inspired theme. My dad, who sadly died last year, was in the Navy for many years and was a keen sailor. We named each table after a different boat that he had worked on or owned throughout his life. This seemed like a nice way of having a little part of him there, without making things too sad.”

“We also wanted the cake to have similar warm orange colours, and we felt that the naked cake (without icing) had more of a relaxed feel compared to a traditional wedding cake.  Our cake supplier was Pauline at the Little Cake Lady.”

“Our photographer was Elliott Hatherley. I knew Elliott from years ago when we went to Reading Festival together! It was great having someone that I knew as it made things feel much more relaxed. He picked up on the laid back vibe of the wedding and adjusted his style to fit – he got the group shots and couple photos to fit in naturally when the opportunity arose, which was great as it made the afternoon flow so well.

We are delighted with the photos, exactly the style we had hoped for and he captured so many perfect moments.”

“We had bespoke invitations and order of services created by Rachel at Paper Arrow Press. She created a perfect design for us – it was really beautiful and included an image of our whippet, John Snow!

“I wore a pair of vintage gold earrings from the same we bought our wedding rings from – a lovely little jewellers in Truro called Little Jems.  I also wore a gold heart necklace that belonged to my Grandma who died earlier this year.”

“Flowers were provided by St Mellion’s Flowers. They also made the button holes, but the bouquets were created by my Auntie.  I wanted flower in warm, burnt orange shades (apparently an unusual colour choice!), lavender and white. I was so pleased with the way they turned out, they really fit in with the colourful, laid back style.”

“My mum gave me away and we walked down the aisle together to the sound of Pachabel by Canon.

Sam’s brother Joe read an excerpt from ‘Tuesday’s with Morrie’ by Mitch Albom. We didn’t want anything too soppy but wanted something that got across the message of what we feel is important in life and that that people and relationships (of all kinds) are what really matters.”

“My favourite part was the ceremony, tut in particular – after the vows when everyone was a bit teary. We had the whole audience sing along to ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ by Elton John, and had the words printed on the back of the order of service. Everyone sung so loudly and enthusiastically after a slightly shaky start. It was great fun and one of my highlights of the day.

“We both had vintage wedding rings that we bought from Little Jems Jewellers in Truro – a beautiful little shop I’d highly recommend, where Sam drank a glass of sherry with the shop assistant whilst closing the deal on my engagement there!”

“We collected pebbles and driftwood from various beaches and I painted a picture of seagulls and sea creatures on each one along with the guest’s names. These then worked as place names and doubled as favours.

Our caterers were the Gourmet BBQ company – they supplied really delicious food that suited our laid back day down to tee.”

The couple’s first dance was to ‘Wooden Heart’ by Elvis Presley…

“We hired The Sunset Band for entertainment  – we really can’t recommend highly enough. They played a variety of past hits from a mixture of decades, mixed in with a few Irish jigs that really got the crowd dancing! Our favourite song was ‘The devil goes down to Georgia’ where the lead singer played the fiddle – amazing!”

“Another favourite moment was at the end of the night, the band’s last song was Daydream Believer By the Monkees – everyone was on the dancefloor with their arms around each other singing along. Therewas so much happiness and love in the room at that moment.”
